It's perfect. Doesn't take up any space. I love the design. It's easy to move from room to room while holding tons of other stuff. But most importantly and all that really matter the sound is AWESOME.

I've been in the market for a small Bluetooth speaker for a few months now, and I have tried JBL Charge, Dr. Dre's Beats Pill, and a few others like Jawbone and Bose. I got this Definitive Technology Sound Cylinder, but returned it later for Bose SoundLink Mini. My initial impression so far is that there is no great BT speaker, period. All of them have some flaws, and you either have to compromise or buy bigger and better speakers. I only had this Sound Cylinder for a short time, but I really enjoyed the clear highs it produced. If it only had a little more bass response, it would have been my ideal speaker.

The price is not Sound Cylinder strong suit, and I have read a lot of reviews that JBL Flip (CNet) and Charge sound better and cost less. I tried the Charge, but it didn't sound as good as other people say. Maybe I got a dud there, it is always a possibility in today's market, but I also tried Beats Pill, and it sounded good to my ears. Bad thing was the Pill does not have any bass/lower range. With Sound Cylinder, you get a little more bass with its 2.1 speakers system design, and the sound is not distorted like on JBL Charge. However, the ultimate compact all around speaker, in my opinion, is the Bose SoundLink Mini.

One more reason that I returned this DT speaker was the awkward shape and design. The resting positions were either not stable enough or ugly. Bose has cleaner look, and it is much more stable. Not to mention it produces full range sound and incredible bass response with its dual woofer 2.2 speakers system. It doesn't have the cleaner highs of DT, but I guess I have to live with that. Since everyone's willing to compromise on different basis, you should go to store and check and A/B these speakers yourself. Your ears won't lie to you, but some online reviews do tend to be biased.

I have purchased a number of similar portable products to use for travel and while, some are acceptable none offered quality sound in a small package. I have used the Audio Engine speakers for travel, but they are too large and heavy for most luggage. The sound Works FOXL is the best I lead heard and I was using it for travel due to its small size and decent sound. I compared it to the Definitive and and gave the Def Tech the clear advantage in sound quality and looks. The nice added feature if the clamp is very cool. You can use it as a stand for your iPad to watch movies or carry it around attached to your iPad to listen to music. The sound is much more full range than the others I tried and it sounds even better when set on a solid surface for a bit of bass reinforcement. It also looks very sharp with the aluminum back of he iPad. I use this unit when driving in rental cars without a Bluetooth connection, out in the garage while working on the car, and of course it hotel rooms when I travel. I've tried them all and this is the best small portable speaker available.

After reading a number of reviews I decided to buy this speaker. I'm a huge def tech fan and own many different speakers made by this company, so I am familiar with their sound quality. So, I had an expectation that this would be a good choice for a Bluetooth speaker. Unfortunately, the speakers did not deliver. The clarity is good, as you would expect. However, the max volume is far lower than I expected - not really enough to fill even a small room. The base is virtually non-existent - I didn't really expect much, and these under delivered to those low expectations. While not a huge fan of bose speakers, their Bluetooth options are far superior to this. The clarity in the bose is not as good, but mid range and base are reasonable and it can easily fill a room. If you are looking to get these speakers to attach to the iPad and listen to them in close proximity ( to watch a movie, etc), then this speaker is a good choice. If you are using it like me, as a portable speaker for background music to take to the beach or to a hotel room, I think you will find this speaker underwhelming due to the extreme volume limitations.

I have Definitive Technology tower speakers at home, and have enjoyed their amazing sound for several years. When I read that Definitive was entering the mobile speaker market with the "Sound Cylinder" I decided to try it. This small speaker emits warm, full, clear sound at a room-filling volume. It's remarkable!

I have Def Tech super towers in my living room so I was excited when they came out with this. The Sound Cylinder sound is great for it's size. Enough bass to make it listenable and it will get plenty loud. It has a confidence inspiring build so it can be thrown in a suitcase without any worries. Super easy pairing to my Nexus 7. If there is anything I would have changed, the volume control is a bit clunky. That is really nitpicking though, I control the volume 99% of the time with my device so it is really not an issue. If you travel much or need a beach or poolside portable speaker, this is the one.
