The ProCinema 800 System is a 6-piece home theater system incorporating 4 identical easy to place ProMonitor 800 satellite speakers for front and surround channels, a matching ProCenter 1000 center channel loudspeaker and a robust ProSub 800 powered subwoofer, all in in convenient carton. But don't let its small size and affordable price fool you -- the ProCinema 800 is a remarkably sophisticated product with huge sound. The system's components incorporate many of the same technologies as Definitive's top-of-the-line models including BDSS drivers, pure aluminum dome tweeters, planar pressure coupled mid/bass radiators and a 300-Watt powered subwoofer for home theater sound quality that will astound your friends and family when they hear your system for the first time.
Competing satellite speakers of this size usually have weak lower-midrange response; that part of the audio range that contains the "warmth" and "body" of voices and musical instruments. Listen to a male vocal on typical small satellite speakers and you will instantly hear what we mean. The ProCinema satellites avoid this critical problem by pressure-coupling our exclusive BDSS technology driver to an equal-sized mid/bass radiator cleverly placed on the top of the satellite. This technique doubles the lower- midrange radiating area of the speaker without increasing the size of the enclosure. You’ll enjoy the kind of rich, warm and life-like sound quality that you thought was only possible with big, hard to place speakers.
As much as 75% of a movie's soundtrack is played by the center channel loudspeaker making it arguably the most important speaker in a home theater system. It is the key to getting intelligible dialog and true- to-life sound effects. So we lavished extra attention on the ProCinema 800's center speaker. It features 2 of the same BDSS drivers as the satellites along with 2 mid/bass radiators on the sides of the enclosure, allowing it to play loud and clear with high tonal accuracy.
The Low Frequency Effects of a movie's soundtrack bring excitement, realism and just plain fun to action, adventure and sci-fi movies. Worry not, Definitive has bass down pat. The ProCinema 800's subwoofer features a 300 Watt amplifier driving a high excursion 8 inch woofer that is pressure-coupled to an 8 inch Low Bass radiator on the bottom of the enclosure. The net radiating area of the 600 sub is 27% greater than a single 10 inch woofer but with better speed, pitch definition and control.
Small enough to disappear in a room but beautiful when in plain view the 800 satellites can be shelf- mounted with their unique tri-lobed base, wall-mounted using the built-in keyhole mount or optional ProMount 80 pivot mount or stand mounted with their optional floor stands. The center channel speaker has an adjustable foot for shelf mounting or can be wall-mounted using two optional ProMount 80 articulating brackets. To make adjusting the subwoofer's output as easy as possible we placed the sub volume control on the side of the subwoofer's enclosure.
Sonically, the ProCinema 800 System is a revelation in terms of achieving incredible sound at an affordable price. Their imaging is absolutely boxless, spacious and three dimensional while delivering pinpoint specificity and localization when called for. They are velvety smooth with you-are-there presence which is hard to find at any price and unheard of in this price range. The 800 system is dynamic but capable of great subtlety so it excels equally with music or movies.
The ProCinema 800 system is available both as an all-in-one-carton system (Black finish only) for greatest convenience or a la carte with each of the components packaged separately so that you can custom design a system that perfectly meets your needs. For example, if you are looking for a 7.1 system just add 2 each ProMonitor 800 satellites to this ProCinema 800 system.

Incredible sounding speaker package at a reasonable pricepoint!,

Like the other reviewer I am not one to shower any product with accolades unless it is fully warranted. I can tell you that without hesitation the Definitive Technology Procinema 800 system is entirely worthy of such praise. Now I must qualify the fact that the space I was filling was around 12 x 28 feet with a 50" Panasonic plasma TV in one corner, but the end result was nothing short of mindblowing. The speakers work exceptionally well with my Denon 790 receiver and the Audessey setup certainly made it all easy to do. The sub has so much bass capability I really only had it dialed down to halfway (the adjustable volume on the side of the subwoofer is a great feature.....there's enough bass to knock pictures off the walls if you so desire). The satellite speakers are all set to crossover at 100 Hz and the sub picks up the slack from there. The marriage of the components is seamless, playing music is crisp and clear, but it's the sound from Blu-ray movies where this system really shines. You can hear everything (ex footsteps in the background, bullets zinging left to right, explosions become very dramatic, etc) as good or better than the movie theater. It really envelops you in the sound similar to systems that cost significantly more. The price of the system is a bit high, but when you price out your options at this level of sound quality, you'll see they are actually quite a value. I highly recommend auditioning a set if you're in the market for a new satellite speaker surround sound setup.

Amazing system, great price, and a surprisingly room-filling sub.,

I've stared at this system on the internet for about 4 years before finally moving into a new home, and purchasing it. The speakers are made well, but sound even better. Great highs, great midrange, and of course - a real room-filling subwoofer. With music these speakers sound great, and of course watching a blu-ray disc really brings the true sound out of these which will blow you away for the price and size. This is one of the highest recommendations I can give. The only issue I had, is that the first subwoofer was blown, but onecall replaced it quickly for me.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800 System Black (Electronics)
I did a lot of research before opting to purchase this speaker system. I'm very much an amateur and was very cautious about my decision.
When the package arrived, I was surprised by how compact the speakers were even though I had read in another blog that someone else had the same reaction. I was impressed with the quality of construction, feel and the look of the speakers. Hooking them up was very easy. I used Monster XPHPCIBIG100 Speaker Cable along with Monster Cable QL GMT-H QuickLock Gold Banana Connectors that I also purchased on Amazon. In doing my homework, I couldn't find anyone that could sell this stuff at a better price than Amazon. The speakers are connected to a Denon AVR-4308CI Multizone Home Theater Receiver with Network Streaming and Wi-Fi. I read a post by another person that had combined these speakers with a Denon AV Receiver and I agree 100% that the combination is awesome. The speakers sound incredible. I've had some other stereo components in the past and nothing sounds like this setup. I'm very happy, so much so, that I'm writing this post on New Years Eve 2009 at 10:30 p.m. and bringing in the New Year with my favorite songs. If I had to find a critique for Definitive Technology, it would be the manual for the Sub Woofer. It is simple, but almost too simple regarding the hook ups. I would have liked a little more detail regarding some of the technical aspects of what they were describing.
