5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible sounding speaker package at a reasonable pricepoint!, December 14, 2009
By
This review is from: Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800 System Black (Electronics)
Like the other reviewer I am not one to shower any product with accolades unless it is fully warranted. I can tell you that without hesitation the Definitive Technology Procinema 800 system is entirely worthy of such praise. Now I must qualify the fact that the space I was filling was around 12 x 28 feet with a 50" Panasonic plasma TV in one corner, but the end result was nothing short of mindblowing. The speakers work exceptionally well with my Denon 790 receiver and the Audessey setup certainly made it all easy to do. The sub has so much bass capability I really only had it dialed down to halfway (the adjustable volume on the side of the subwoofer is a great feature.....there's enough bass to knock pictures off the walls if you so desire). The satellite speakers are all set to crossover at 100 Hz and the sub picks up the slack from there. The marriage of the components is seamless, playing music is crisp and clear, but it's the sound from Blu-ray movies where this system really shines. You can hear everything (ex footsteps in the background, bullets zinging left to right, explosions become very dramatic, etc) as good or better than the movie theater. It really envelops you in the sound similar to systems that cost significantly more. The price of the system is a bit high, but when you price out your options at this level of sound quality, you'll see they are actually quite a value. I highly recommend auditioning a set if you're in the market for a new satellite speaker surround sound setup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing system, great price, and a surprisingly room-filling sub., May 27, 2009

I've stared at this system on the internet for about 4 years before finally moving into a new home, and purchasing it. The speakers are made well, but sound even better. Great highs, great midrange, and of course - a real room-filling subwoofer. With music these speakers sound great, and of course watching a blu-ray disc really brings the true sound out of these which will blow you away for the price and size. This is one of the highest recommendations I can give. The only issue I had, is that the first subwoofer was blown, but onecall replaced it quickly for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Please with my Definitive Technology Speakers, December 31, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800 System Black (Electronics)
I did a lot of research before opting to purchase this speaker system. I'm very much an amateur and was very cautious about my decision.

When the package arrived, I was surprised by how compact the speakers were even though I had read in another blog that someone else had the same reaction. I was impressed with the quality of construction, feel and the look of the speakers.

Hooking them up was very easy. I used Monster XPHPCIBIG100 Speaker Cable along with Monster Cable QL GMT-H QuickLock Gold Banana Connectors that I also purchased on Amazon. In doing my homework, I couldn't find anyone that could sell this stuff at a better price than Amazon.

The speakers are connected to a Denon AVR-4308CI Multizone Home Theater Receiver with Network Streaming and Wi-Fi. I read a post by another person that had combined these speakers with a Denon AV Receiver and I agree 100% that the combination is awesome. The speakers sound incredible. I've had some other stereo components in the past and nothing sounds like this setup. I'm very happy, so much so, that I'm writing this post on New Years Eve 2009 at 10:30 p.m. and bringing in the New Year with my favorite songs.

If I had to find a critique for Definitive Technology, it would be the manual for the Sub Woofer. It is simple, but almost too simple regarding the hook ups. I would have liked a little more detail regarding some of the technical aspects of what they were describing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive Technology Pro 800 Rocks, August 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800 System Black (Electronics)
I did considerable research before purchasing this speaker system. I primarily use it for movies with a degree of music mixed in during other times. I have compared them to similar systems from Bose and Polk and the Pro Cinema 800 is superior to either of these. The clarity is phenominal and the bass response is strong given the size of the subwoofer. I have my set hooked up to a Denon AVR-3310 and I used Audyssey MultEQ to set the crossover. I have a fairly large room 16 x 22 with hardwood floors. The subwoofer had problems with resonance (vibration) due to its proximity to walls and the hardwood floor. This is not the fault of the subwoofer and I cured it with an Auralex Subwoofer Isolation Riser (available here on Amazon). The only vibration I have now is when the pictures rattle on the walls after a simulated explosion during a movie (just the way I like it). Oh, and most important....My wife likes the clean and compact look of these speakers. Bottom line is that these are high quality speakers that sound fantastic. You won't be disappointed. I ordered from Amazon and had them at my house in just one day! Amazon rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars great system all around!! always among the best 5..., December 3, 2010
This review is from: Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800 System Black (Electronics)
i spend quite a few months trying to decide in a good audio system for the money, in the times we are, nobody wants to spend money without doing the homework first, and after a lot of reading, lot of talking, and lot of listening, my decision of purchasing the pro 800 was purely based in terms of price & quality. using it w the pioneer 1120k,12 gauge wire, and after personal tweaking for some time, i got them exactly where i wanted them. Subwoofer is great (check the specs!!) lows are VERY low, and like someone said in one of the reviews will knock stuff off your walls if you want to. The only problem i see wit this system is that if you live in an apartment you will not be able to crank this baby up unless you want some neighbors extremely upset at you, and the subsequent knocking of cops at your door.!! great choice, will purchase them again and again...

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible System, May 6, 2011
This review is from: Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800 System Black (Electronics)
Recently purchased this system to replace an entry level Yamaha surround speaker set. I have this connected to a Yamaha RX-V667. I also have Panasonic DMP-BDT210 and Panasonic TC-P50VT20 hooked up to the RX-V667. My family and I are still amazed at the clarity and sound from these speakers. A whole new experience watching movies and listening to music. Very pleased with this purchase. WOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Small speakers with big sound...., April 26, 2011

Don't let the size of these speakers deceive you. You might think it's not capable of handling the job of outputting great sounds; if you're thinking about that then your dead WRONG! The Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800 systems is the best buy and a must have for any home audio freak. The crisp and clarity of these speakers are AMAZING! The small subwoofer that came with this unit isn't the type that is weak; as a matter of fact it's the other way around. The small sized subwoofer delivers excellent lows and pucnhy bass. The best things about this home audio speakers is their built-in technology in each of the smal speakers. The BDSS technology coupled with passive or bass radiators on top of each speakers helps deliver sound quality that is distorsion free. You get the clean mids because of the BDSS and clear lows because of the bass radiators. Both techonologies work in conjuction with one another in order to bring out that clear, crisp, low, and punchy sounds. With these speakers you can hear every detail in a movie regardless whether it's a DVD or Blu-Ray. You can hear a person pant when ther're breathing heavily, you can hear the clear sound of rain drops hitting the tea cups (Pirate of the Carribean; Deadman's chest scene), you can hear background noises that you never realise when watching it on an ordinary home audio system. When I was watching the blu-ray movie Green Zone (Matt Damon) and I could feel the explosion as if rocks, bullets whizzing as it passes, people yelling on the background, etc.

I am basically very satisfied with this home audio speaker system. Once I experienced the quality of Definitive Technology's speaker systems, I never looked back on anything. All I can say is that this is how home audio speakers should be made!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Home Theater Sound without having large speakers..., January 16, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800 System Black (Electronics)
I researched a lot of speakers for our new home theater system and these were by far the best. After researching the company and hearing what others had to say I went to a store to listen to these compared to all the other major top brands. These were crisp and sounded best at a fair price. We have a large den with 35 ft. ceilings and room is around 25 x 25, so rather large. These sound great and the sub is perfect for what we wanted. You can get crazy when buying speakers, but my ears can't tell the difference between these and very pricy set ups. These are set up with a denon avr-3312ci with Panasonic 60GT30 and everything blends perfect...highly recommend...

I have searched for a very long time in order to replace my bose AM-10s.Don't get me wrong, those Bose did well and I had no complaint..until a friend of mine showed me his Definitive Technology Pro 800s.
He had them set up in a 20x28 room along with his flat screen etc..
Jaw dropping to say the least!
These speakers are small just like my Bose..but the range and impact of sound was more than I ever expected.
He uses a Tosiba TV...fair in my view..but uses an Onkyo receiver that puts out 100 watts per channel. The mating is suberb..
I am a admitted snob when it comes to sound, but this speaker system is way beyond their price range.
I WILL be buying once the funds become available..
Do your self a favor and at least give them a listen...you will not be dissapointed.
