The ProCenter 1000 is Definitive's mid-sized center speaker in the acclaimed ProCinema Series. A ProCenter 1000 along with four ProCenter 800s or ProMonitor 1000s and a matching ProSub makes a complete ProCinema system. All the components of the system are packed and sold separately allowing you to mix and match Pro Series components to build the system that best suits your needs.
Don't let the ProCenter 1000's small size and affordable price fool you -- it is a remarkably sophisticated product with huge sound. The 1000 incorporates many of the same technologies as Definitive's top-of-the-line models including BDSS drivers, pure aluminum dome tweeters, and planar pressure coupled mid/bass radiators for home theater sound quality that will astound you.
Competing center channel speakers of this size usually have weak lower-midrange response; that part of the audio range that contains the "warmth" and "body" of voices and musical instruments. Listen to a male vocal on typical small satellite speakers and you will instantly hear the weakness in the lower midrange. The ProCenter avoids this critical problem by pressure-coupling exclusive BDSS technology drivers to two equal-sized mid/bass radiators cleverly placed on the sides of the speaker. This technique doubles the lower-midrange/bass radiating area of the speaker without increasing the size of the enclosure. You’ll enjoy the kind of rich, warm and life-like sound quality that you thought was only possible with big, hard-to-place speakers.
As much as 75% of a movie's soundtrack is played by the center channel loudspeaker making it arguably the most important speaker in a home theater system. It is the key to getting intelligible dialog and true-to-life sound effects. So we lavished extra attention on the ProCenter 1000. It features 2 of the same BDSS drivers as used in ProMonitor 800 satellites along with 2 mid/bass radiators on the sides of the enclosure, allowing it to play loud and clear with high tonal accuracy.
Small enough to disappear in a room but beautiful when in plain view, the ProCenter 1000 can be mounted on a shelf or on top of a TV. Its built-in foot allows you to adjust the angle of the speaker in the vertical plane to aim the speaker at listener’s ear height. Or you can wall mount it using two optional ProMount 80 articulating wall mounts (sold separately).
The ProCenter 1000 is a revelation in terms of achieving incredible sound at an affordable price. It fulfills with aplomb its most important job of delivering perfectly clear and intelligible dialog to every listener in the room. It dishes out high impact sound effects with distortion-free dynamics but is also capable of great subtlety to excel equally with music or movies.

Very Full sound,
By M. Kelley "mpkelley20" (Boston, MA United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)

I have two home theater setups in my house. One is a 5.1 and the other is a 7.1. Both systems have Cambridge Soundworks suuround sound speakers. My 7.1 system uses a Yamaha receiver that has HDMI so I utilize it, along with my PS3, to get HD audio through Blu-Ray. I was noticing that I was not getting a full sound from my center channel which was a CS MC150 center speaker. I tried switching it with my other CS center speaker from my older 5.1 setup but saw no difference. In my opinion, the sound was very tinny. And for a center channel, you don't want that since it is the primary speaker for home theater.
I decided that I had made a mistake by not investing in a better center channel so I started looking for a replacement. A neighbor of mine has the Definitive Tech. Pro Cinema 600 setup and it sounds pretty good compared to my setup. The center channel seemed a bit small so I hit the local Magnolia to check out other center speakers. I tried brands such as Mirage, Klipsch, Polk and tghe Definitives. To me, the best sounding and most full sounding speaker was the DT Pro Center 1000. I was looking to spend about $200 so this fit right into my bugdet. I hooked it up to my system and immediatley heard a huge difference from my older CS center channel. I guess the one inch bigger size in the tweeters/mid range makes a huge difference as now I hear a much fuller sound that completely fills my room. I also find that I need to run the receiver volume lower due to the full sound. For a center channel that does notg have a built in subwoofer, it handles lower sounds very well. I am very happy with my purchase and will probably begin to upgrade to all definitive speakers in the future. Will probably go to the pro cinema 800 for the surriunds and maybe a 1000 sub. Great speakers!!!

Best Center near the money,

I purchased this center channel after weeks of looking for the best sound at an affordable cost. After hearing many items from Klipsch, Polk, Infinity, Mirage, Bose (boo)....the clear choice was this ProCenter 1000. Nothing within $200 dollars of this speaker (besides the 2000)sounded within the same star system to me. I didn't stop at it the first time around though, I checked different setups at different Bestbuy locations because the rooms sizes differ. This speaker always impressed me. Don't waste your time on the center channels between $100-350 ($350 or so for the ProCenter 2000). If you don't want to fork out $350 or give up the extra space, get the 1000.

I bought this by reading reviews here and a million other places.. I spend hours upon hours reading up on products before i purchase them. I finally decided on this center channel was my best choice for the price range. I was not dissapointed, it put my old infinity center to shame. I soon after purchased two Promonitor 1000's to match the center because my old speakers just got blown away by this center. I'm very happy with my purchases.
