I have two home theater setups in my house. One is a 5.1 and the other is a 7.1. Both systems have Cambridge Soundworks suuround sound speakers. My 7.1 system uses a Yamaha receiver that has HDMI so I utilize it, along with my PS3, to get HD audio through Blu-Ray. I was noticing that I was not getting a full sound from my center channel which was a CS MC150 center speaker. I tried switching it with my other CS center speaker from my older 5.1 setup but saw no difference. In my opinion, the sound was very tinny. And for a center channel, you don't want that since it is the primary speaker for home theater.
I decided that I had made a mistake by not investing in a better center channel so I started looking for a replacement. A neighbor of mine has the Definitive Tech. Pro Cinema 600 setup and it sounds pretty good compared to my setup. The center channel seemed a bit small so I hit the local Magnolia to check out other center speakers. I tried brands such as Mirage, Klipsch, Polk and tghe Definitives. To me, the best sounding and most full sounding speaker was the DT Pro Center 1000. I was looking to spend about $200 so this fit right into my bugdet. I hooked it up to my system and immediatley heard a huge difference from my older CS center channel. I guess the one inch bigger size in the tweeters/mid range makes a huge difference as now I hear a much fuller sound that completely fills my room. I also find that I need to run the receiver volume lower due to the full sound. For a center channel that does notg have a built in subwoofer, it handles lower sounds very well. I am very happy with my purchase and will probably begin to upgrade to all definitive speakers in the future. Will probably go to the pro cinema 800 for the surriunds and maybe a 1000 sub. Great speakers!!!

Best Center near the money,

I purchased this center channel after weeks of looking for the best sound at an affordable cost. After hearing many items from Klipsch, Polk, Infinity, Mirage, Bose (boo)....the clear choice was this ProCenter 1000. Nothing within $200 dollars of this speaker (besides the 2000)sounded within the same star system to me. I didn't stop at it the first time around though, I checked different setups at different Bestbuy locations because the rooms sizes differ. This speaker always impressed me. Don't waste your time on the center channels between $100-350 ($350 or so for the ProCenter 2000). If you don't want to fork out $350 or give up the extra space, get the 1000.

I bought this by reading reviews here and a million other places.. I spend hours upon hours reading up on products before i purchase them. I finally decided on this center channel was my best choice for the price range. I was not dissapointed, it put my old infinity center to shame. I soon after purchased two Promonitor 1000's to match the center because my old speakers just got blown away by this center. I'm very happy with my purchases.

Our primary motivation to choose this center speaker was twofold:
1. it fit our under-TV shelf space (under 6" tall) 2. We really really liked the matching ProMonitor1000 speakers. (which we bought - see my review on those here: Definitive Technology ProMonitor 1000 Bookshelf Speaker (Single, Black)) It's paired up to our RX-A800 avr, and sounds great. Very solid construction, as well. My wife is really big on the mid-range, and these meet her approval. I have absolutely no complaints about this solid center speaker!

I recently moved and decided to leave my surround sound speakers at the old house. Nice selling point and good excuse to upgrade. My wife said she just wanted us to have white speakers. I did quite a bit of research and kept running across DefTech speakers and read how good the price/value was. Completely agree.
I decided to go with the procinema 800 surround (white), procinema 100 center (black), and prosub 1000. Let me say I would be hard pressed to find a better sounding system for the same price point. Everything sounds so much clearer cleaner and crisp. One note is I have a large living room with kitchen attached. Living room is 17x30 with sloped ceiling, the peak is about 20' high. The speakers sound great in the room and my sony receiver could even muscle out more sound but we don't want to wake up our children at the other end of the house. The speakers sound great while listening to music (hard rock), and all series, shows, movies. We put on Finding Nemo for the kids and we heard background noises that we couldn't even hear with the old surround sound system. I used the DefTech speaker mounts to wall mount and actually mounted the speakers upside down to reflect the passive radiator bass downward. Sounds nice. Experiment with them yourself for what sounds best to you. When I describe these speaker, I tell people it's like going from standard definition tv to hd tv but with your sound system. Couldn't be more impressed with the look, product quality, and sound quality.

I really wanted to get the ProCenter 2000 but space limitations forced me to go with the 1000. With the reviews here, I was pretty sure I would be happy even with it. But I guess that I was expecting more than is realistic to expect from a speaker this small. Overall, it sounds very good. No real complaints. But I was expecting a WOW speaker, and this is merely a very good speaker. And not super cheap either.
The pros: It is VERY clear on the vocals and sounds good. The cons: It doesn't have as much PUNCH as I was expecting and not as much low-end as I was hoping for based on the specs. I would recommend it if space is a problem, but if you have the cash and the space, I'd get the 2000 model instead.

Gets five stars for good sound at this price. This speaker delivers good sound at a great price. I employ it as the center speaker in a surround sound system in a 17 ft deep by 15 feet wide room with 9 ft ceilings. My opinion is that it would also work in rooms larger than this. Does a great job of anchoring the center sound. Sound quality is good, not great. But for the money it delivers. Tone is biased to mid-range and bass. Construction is excellent. Has a center screw foot in the bottom back allowing the speaker to be tilted forward if the speaker is on a high shelf. This is how I have it installed. Also has two threaded mounting inserts for wall mounting. I got the white model.

A very well made and good looking product. Exceptional sound for the price. These work perfectly in smaller rooms with a ProSub 800 and a ProCenter 1000.

i finally completed my def-tech system with this center channel based on the reviews and my past experience with def-tech products. I have a set of promonitor 80's and a 10" powered sub that came as package but never found the right center channel until now. the small footprint allows me to easily mount it on the wall and doesnt take up a lot of space. the sound quality completes my theatre setup replacing a crappy ol'CS100 - what a huge difference. i'm almost embarrassed to make such a comparison. i'm really happy with the purchase and the quality. the speaker easily fills the 12x20' room i have it in and nicely matches the promonitors i have even though i bought them several years ago. if you wall mount it, you might consider the pair of def-tech wall mounts that are about $40-50 - they worked great for my setup and easy to install.

replaced a polk ctr unit with this item. this unit performs extremely well in a very large room. audio quality far surpasses the polk in a smaller, neater package. would recommend to anyone.
