Fantastic compact speakers to go with your plasma.,

After having these speakers for about six months, I can recommend them whole heartedly. I have had speakers from PSB, Boston Acoustics, Paradigm and Yamaha. These Definitives are unrivaled for clarity. Don't be fooled by their size, these things can fill a room with sound. They have two built in wall mounting options, Keyhole slot and threaded insert, that makes them very decor/plasma TV friendly. They also rate very high on the "Wife Approval Factor" for aesthetics. Understand that these speakers do require at least a couple of weeks break in time to sound their best.

Looking for some good speakers to pair with my new RX-A800 avr, I auditioned numerous speakers, and ended up with a pair of these for my main l/r speakers.
Reasons why: Much smaller and sleeker than most others. Much cheaper than floorstanding, but still almost-comparable sound quality. Available floor stands that match, fit solidly, and look good. ...and best of all, they'll make great surround speakers when I decide to upgrade l/r speakers!! (they're wall-mountable, too!) Runners-up: B&W 686... I really really really liked the sound on these (actually just a notch above the ProMonitor1000s) - but they were more expensive and not as stylish (the box-design has been done before). Martin Logan Motion 4... surprisingly good sound (especially a huge step up from the slightly-cheaper Motion 2s) but it just sounded more harsh to my ears. Maybe these are better for movies, and not music. You'd be happy with them if you hadn't heard the DefTech's or B&Ws! bonus tip: keep your eye out for 10% off single-item coupon at Best Buy or Magnolia, and use that to buy these! That's what I did!

Pleasantly surprised! I needed to downsize from larger bookshelf speakers (Oldie but goodie JBLs). All around, these were a great choice.
I consider myself somewhat of an audiophile that no longer has a budget or space. I looked around on the internet at various small bookshelf models from Yamaha, Infinity, JBL, etc. I will say I took a leap of faith and bought these sound unheard...They sound great. Realistically, they are what they are. You're not going to get huge sound from them. I did notice that the are rated at a higher SPL (91) than most speakers and you can tell. The sound is quality though. Bass response isn't outstanding, but baritone to soprano vocals are full and clear. Seeing as I'm a cheapskate, I didn't want to pay full price. I noticed that Amazon Warehouse had some at a reduced rate. The site stated that they were in "very good" condition with some "cosmetic blemishes." I used super saver shipping - they shipped within 4 days and they have no blemishes on them! They are very attractive speakers - the wife unit is very pleased. If you're looking for a small bookshelf with good sound and great looks, I think these are it.

Fantastic Speakers,

Fantastic sound, incredible clarity....I have been using mordaunt short speakers for more than 3 years, I have upgraded to definitive pro monitor 1000. Movies, music sound improved so much. I went for audition to hifi shops many times. I can say , these speakers sound best for me so far comparing to mission, monitor audio, klipsch brands...Therefore I recommend these speakers to everyone.

Amazing speakers!,

These are highend speakers without the highend price! Even if you own more expensive speakers like I do, you should listen to these. They work extremely well as desktop speakers given their small footprints. I find myself listening to them more than my regular and far more expensive setups. They paint such a beautiful sonic picture that I am really starting to question spending more for speakers.

I purchased 2-promonitor 1000's, 1-promonitor 1000 center channel speaker, 1-Velodyne VX-11 subwoofer along with a Pioneer VSX 1020 reciever. This system is in our family room which has a cathedral ceiling and is roughly 20'x15'. This system sounds awsome! To me, better than at the movies. The promonitor 1000s have no hiss sound to them, every sound is crisp and clear. They bring a whole new demension to watching tv or even better DVD's at home. The speakers themselves are sharp looking and very inconspicuous on our TV entertainment center - as they are all black. Very happy with my purchase! I would highly reccomend purchasing the Def Tech promonitor 1000s or any of their products.

These are perfectly suited for 2-channel applications as well as surround. What makes them better than many other similar satellite speakers is that they have quality binding posts and passive radiators. Actually, I can't describe them as satellites. While I had a rare instance where a radiator had a minor flaw, all it did was to prove how well the Company backs up their product. Great sound and very well made with excellent customer service!

I use two 1000's for my front surround speakers and they are fantastic. Super bass response and much better then the Bose I used to have.

I purchased these to replace a Definitive Tech Soundbar that I was not overly happy with. Was able to audition them at the local Magnolia Store. Compared to the mythos line and speakers on display from Martin Logan and Klipsh. Personally preferred them over a majority of the speakers I heard. For the price, they offer outstanding performance. They are a great match with the Super Cube 800.
They offer solid midrange peformance with a good soundstage, in my room I use them as Front L\R speakers for a modest surround sound setup (Onkyo 707 reciever). If you like detailed vocals with a pleasant sound stage and good imaging these are definitely a great choice. Yes, there is better out there, but at this price point you will be hard pressed to find something. No reservations in recomending this product! I am very happy with this purchase.

I must start by saying that I'm somewhat jaded as these Def Techs are replacing a full size set of Infinity Delta 40s towers and there is no comparison to a full size speaker set up. But... when space is a consideration these do a good job. They have more presence than any of the Mirage Nanosats. The Martin Logan Motion 4s sounded a bit harsh on the mid to high end. The B&W M-1s did not have banana clip hook ups. So I got the Def Tech 1000s, which had the best balance throughout their range. My intended use was as main speakers powered by a mid-level HK receiver to fill a large great room (living room, dining room, kitchen). They do a pretty good job for music, but dialog on movies seems to be muted and not as crisp as the rest of the sound effects/soundtrack. A center channel is the next addition. As a personal listening note, I prefer a sound with very crisp highs. Although rated up to 30 kHz, these don't hit the highs quite as much as the Infinity Emit tweeters, which are also rated up to 30 kHz. The Matrix scene where the side of the building that is made of mirrored glass breaks is my litmus test for tweeters. The 1000s have a passive low frequency radiator, which is not bad for music, but won't add any punch to sound effects or a heavy bass line. Adding an Infinity 8" sub prodcued almost too much bass. The sub out on the receiver is dialed down and the crossover set to 80 Hz. Speakers are such a matter of personal taste that it's hard to recommend, but all in all, these were my favorites in their class as they had the most natural sound. |
