Multiple High-Definition Drivers and a Sweeter Tweeter

The BP10 utilizes two high definition bass/midrange drivers for significant performance advantages in the areas of bass reproduction, lifelike midrange clarity and dynamic range. These are the same drivers used in Definitive’s flagship BP7000 Series, and incorporate deeply drawn mineral-filled polymer cones, butyl rubber surrounds and dustcaps, high temperature vented voice coils and massive magnet structures. This combination of features assures high definition, superb transient response, high efficiency, high power handling and extended bass response. In addition, they are assembled utilizing an aerodynamically designed, magnetically inert, cast-magnesium basket to minimize internal reflections off the back of the cone and preserve structural and magnetic integrity under all conditions.

The moving coil dome tweeters Definitive developed for the top-of-the-line BP7000 Series are also used in the BP10B. They utilize a specially annealed pure aluminum 1-inch dome, suspended by a silk surround and acoustically loaded by a precisely configured phase plug/lens--all engineered to assure perfectly controlled, absolutely linear movement. This results in velvety smooth extended response beyond 30 kHz, greatly reduced distortion, improved transient response, wider dispersion and notably higher definition. Magnetic fluid damping is incorporated for ultra-high power handling.

Phase-Coherent Linkwitz-Riley Crossover Networks

The crossover network of a loudspeaker is the real heart of the system, as it is responsible for perfectly blending together the sound of the various drivers into a musically seamless whole. The sophisticated Linkwitz-Riley design used in the BP10B equalizes the drivers for linear phase and frequency response. This preserves the phase coherence, transient response and dynamic integrity of the signal for absolutely lifelike music and home theater reproduction in your home.

Monocoque, Non-Resonant, Low-Diffraction Cabinets

The cabinet of a loudspeaker plays a large part in its sonic performance. Diffraction--the secondary radiation of sound caused by cabinet edges, grille frames and other protrusions--can color the sound of a loudspeaker. The design of the BP10B reduces diffraction to an absolute minimum by flush mounting drivers on extremely narrow baffles with radial edges, which are covered by a frameless grille "sock." In addition, the resonant vibration of a loudspeaker's cabinet walls and baffles can also impart unwanted coloration. Definitive's monocoque cabinets are constructed of high-density medite with 1" thick front and rear baffles, foam dampening pads and internal braces. This virtually eliminates resonant cabinet coloration which could otherwise interfere with the pure sound produced by the high definition drivers. The BP10B also includes an additional brace panel that separates the front and rear drivers.

	2002 Center Channel Speaker: Definitive's 2000 series of left/center/right channel speakers have always led the industry with the best-sounding shielded center channels available. Optimum surround sound home theater reproduction places heavy demands on the center channel speaker, which in many respects is the main speaker in the system and often handles 50% or more of the audio information. These C/L/Rs are also superb as matching center, left and right channel speakers and can be positioned horizontally or vertically. All feature non-resonant monocoque cabinets with Linkwitz-Riley crossover networks, pure aluminum dome tweeters and die-cast-basket bass/midrange drivers in D'Appolito arrays.
	ProCenter 2000 Center Channel Speaker: Definitive's ProCenter center channel speakers are equipped with many of the same technologies as the ProMonitor speakers, resulting in wide frequency responses, extended dynamic range, and extraordinary detail and articulation. Optimum surround sound home theater reproduction places heavy demands on the center channel speaker, which in many respects is the most important speaker in the system, often handling 50 percent or more of the program material. I have a pair of these Definitive Technology BP10B speakers as the main speakers in my home theater. They replaced a pair of Kef C95 main speakers which have the Uni-Q driver. Although the Uni-Q drivers produce a very crisp sound, those Kef Speakers only reached down to 50Hz and so, they didn't have as wide of a frequency range as the Definitive Technology BP10B speakers. Definitive Technology claims these speakers go all the way down to 20Hz; I'm not sure if they do, but they definitely go further down than the Kef speakers. Also the BP10B speakers are bi-polar and IMHO, radiate the sound wider. Some people don't like the bi-polar speakers, but I do. I was really impressed how much better these sound then the Kef (which to be fair, were older).

After the destruction of the World Trade Center in 9/11, the pipe organ at the Trinity Church in New York was damaged. Sixty Definitive Technology BP10B speakers were chosen to replace the pipes - one for each pipe. You can read about this on the definitive technology website.

The Definitive Technology BP10B speakers produce a sharp upper frequency, a rich midrange and deep low frequency sound. I didn't choose the Super Towers (with the built in subwoofer) because I already have the original Definitive Technology Powerfield subwoofer. I also have the Definitive Technology C/L/R 3000 center channel speaker and the BP-2 surround sound speakers. All match sonically and sound very well together (the BP10B has the same 6.5" drivers as the C/L/R 3000). I highly recommend this speaker (in pairs of course).

I switched from a 5.1 system to a 7.1, and bought these speakers to replace my Polks as the main speakers, relegating the Polks to surround speakers. These speakers create a spaciousness of sound that the Polks could not reproduce. The bipolar technology definitely makes a difference, especially when listening to a good concert DVD in DTS master audio. You will still need a good subwoofer with these speakers, because they are only adequate to about 60 hertz. You may never get these speakers discounted like some other brands, but they are worth the money spent in my opinion.

I've owned these speakers for 17 years and they
continue to provide extremely fine sound. In the
past I have owned Bose 901s among other speakers
and these BP10s provide equal quality sound to
my ears. In short, they leave nothing to be
desired.
