5.0 out of 5 stars The Healing Power of a Memoir
Karen Mayer Cunningham presented a tale of healing which had a mystery within it. What was it about the doctor's visit in her son's life that led to his autism? Or was the autism always there but cloaked until a certain unspecified event revealed it? The healing power of what could be considered an exorcism is real. Her book is outstanding among the formulaic examples I...

1.0 out of 5 stars Autism, Not a Curse, Nor Case of Demon Possession!
Our 20 year old daughter has never seemed oppressed nor tormented even in her worst moments. I am glad that God healed Mrs. Mayer-Cunningham's child, especially if she believed that he was demon possessed (imagine thinking that of your child). I know our daughter has blessed our lives and, even though we continue to seek out new ideas in remediating her autism, she is a...

5.0 out of 5 stars The hope in Christ, December 17, 2009
This review is from: Defying Autism (Hardcover)
Before I give my review, I notice several reviews said Mrs. Cunningham claimed that all autistic children are "deathly, deathly ill with no hope for a cure." This was the diagnosis she was given about her son; this is clearly not, what she believes.

It has also been said she claims people with autism are possessed by demons; this again, is not true. She clearly states than are oppressed by the devil, which is true. In any area be it autism or something else it can be a tool the devil uses to kill, steal, and destroy.

I believe this book not only gives hope for healing, but also gives you tools to walk out the trial that is specifically called autism. God's grace is sufficient in the process and I believe this book will help explain walking out a very hard process. I am pleased to have it in my library and recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars AN HONEST STORY..., December 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Defying Autism (Hardcover)
The real issue here with Ms. Cunningham's book, I believe, is the question: does Jesus tell the truth? When non-christians read the New Testament, they often are offended by much of it, which is natural--it was addressed to disciples of Jesus; they alone are asked to believe. In the book of Acts, Peter wrote that "Jesus of Nazareth went about doing good & healing all that were oppressed of the devil." Why does the idea of Satan & demons seem more offensive then disease & mental illness? Jesus healed both instantly, & all were labeled by Peter as "oppression of the devil". ASK YOURSELF: if Jesus stood before you & offered to heal your child, would you allow him--or would you refuse? Would your response suddenly change if he told you that your child had a demon rather than the disorder or illness you had believed was the culprit? When Jesus encountered unbelief, he did not cease to exist. He did not get angry. He did not weep. He simply departed--"And he did not many might works there, because of their unbelief." (Matthew 13:58)

5.0 out of 5 stars More than hope, September 29, 2009

This review is from: Defying Autism (Hardcover)
About a year ago, Karen Mayer Cunningham told me an amazing story about her son, James. God has healed him, and Defying Autism tells the story. She eloquently captures all of the emotions a mother has seeing her child go through autism. The best part is revealed in her book that it is possible for healing to come to our children, and Acts 10:38 is still true.

My own son is ten and was diagnosed with Asperger's years ago. After leading me to Karen's story and showing me that healing is possible, God has healed my son too. Since also going to Gospel Revelation Ministries, I have watched the miracle in front of me of profound changes in his brain. Within two days of coming home, his neurologist decided to start tapering his medication.

When I learned Karen's story about James, it brought me hope. I have even more than hope now: I have assurance, and evidence, and faith. And that is a gift from God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miracles for today's world, April 16, 2009

This review is from: Defying Autism (Hardcover)
Defying Autism shares a life story and a riveting, page-turning journey of a normal American family who has an incredible story to share with the world. It gives hope to the hopeless and courage to those willing to seek a miracle through God's mighty gift for us all, if we step out in faith and reach for it. It's a healing process not talked about much or given much merit in today's world, yet, it's so powerful that people are starting to notice the incredible answers it provides. I think the time has come for people to understand how Jesus performs miracles of healing, right now...yes, now, in today's world.

5.0 out of 5 stars real people, real hope, December 17, 2009
This review is from: Defying Autism (Kindle Edition)
This account by Karen Mayer Cunningham is her story. It's not her medical opinion about autism. She experienced the hurt, heartache and healing with her son James.

Her story predates the dark ages, it goes all the way back to the Cross and the healing works and words of Jesus. I'm glad she has been brave enough to tell her story exactly the way it has happened. This should be great encouragement to any that are in otherwise hopeless situations.

I have several of her books just to give to others...
