5.0 out of 5 stars Love hearing new material from the "Rent" cast member--as well as dance mixes!
Idina delivers the voice and the remixes in this massive club single--an adapted solo version of a song from the play Wicked! Would be great to get an all new full length album from Idina. Tracks:

1. Tracy Young's Flying Monkey Club mix (8:05) (very circuity tribal mix)
2. Eddie Baez mix (8:42) (Eddie does his great dark hardhouse magic)
3. Hani's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Something to be desired
As much as I love Idina Menzel, and as much as I LOVE Wicked, I'm a little disappointed in this. I like the Funky Junction/Anthony Reale and the Josh Harris Vocal Club mix (as I am a dance music fan to the max), but the other mixes didn't fit the vocals as well. And honestly, the single version leaves a lot to be desired when compared to the original track from the...

2. Eddie Baez mix (8:42) (Eddie does his great dark hardhouse magic)
3. Hani's Flying So High Club mix (7:04) (funky disco house mix--but it's more like a dub with few of Idina's vocals)
4. Josh Harris mix (7:15) (more of an electro/filter house feel)
5. Funky Junction & Antony Reale mix (6:20) (real smooth, commercial house mix, best suits the vocals)
6. Single Version (3:47) (While I'm ALL about dance mixes, I must say, the pure arrangement of the original guitar ballad version shows off her stunning vocals--this is just an amazing, uplifting power ballad, and hearing the original version, I realize that NONE of the remixes do the song justice)

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful voice now in dance mix, December 4, 2007

The lovely lady from Long Island with the powerful voice and electric personality is well represented with these remixed tracks of her showstopping song from WICKED, "Defying Gravity." Personally, I like Track 5 and the single version on Track 6 the best in this collection, but they're all enjoyable.

If you can't get it for free, don't bother buying it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Defy Gravity, January 6, 2009

She does not get as much attention as she should. She Idina should be just as popular as Kristin Cheneweth. Some of the songs aren't so great, but her voice never faulters. Better than I had imagined it would be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wicked goes dance!, November 26, 2008

This review is from: Defying Gravity (Audio CD)
When I read the other reviews about this CD single I was a bit worried. No need to be: I love the musical Wicked and I love this CD just as much!!! Who couldn't like Idina? I like how it can easely appeal to younger audiences having the modern dance sound....who knows they may even be dancing to it in night clubs. I deffinately suggest this CD to any Wicked/Idina fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant remix, November 2, 2007

This single is a must for any Wicked fan! Though I found the remixes a little tiresome to listen to all at once, they are very well produced.

I've been waiting years for this to come out. It was worth the wait, can't wait for her next studio album to come out! Idina is a very talented woman, with an incredible voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Run Don't Walk To Purchase This CD, September 2, 2007
This review is from: Defying Gravity (Audio CD)
I had heard this on the web and had to purchase it. Let me just say that even if you don't know about WICKED or haven't heard Idina sing Defying Gravity you are in for a treat. Idina Menzel is one of the best singers out there today. She was fabulous in Wicked and in Rent. This CD has 6 versions of Defying Gravity. It has dance versions as well as her singing a regular version of the song. It is well worth the money spent. After you have heard this purchase her other CD's. You will never be disappointed.

As always Ms. Menzel soars but this time with a dance version of her show stopping number from Wicked. It is a totally different take on a song that is a classic.

Idina is still Defying Gravity!!!!!

What the heck is this? A song originally written for an extremely popular Broadway musical, gets an upgrade just so it can be a Top 40 radio hit. HOW CAN YOU BE MORE STUPID, RECORD COMPANIES?

Idina Menzel sounds like Miley Cyrus in this song. Listen to the final chorus of this song, and there you go! Both of these singer's voices are like nails on a chalkboard (darn, I can't believe I just used that idiom), but the one thing is that Menzel doesn't try to sound bad, but she just does.

This drivel makes me want to hear the musical version of this song, and that's very bad to say!
