Like a boot to the neck, July 25, 2008
This review is from: Deguello Wartunes (Audio CD)
2008's Deguello Wartunes is the first release in over a decade from German thrashers Hate Squad, and you can tell that they're fully aware of how musical trends have changed since 1997's Pzyco. In addition to the traditional German thrash elements, I'm hearing a lot of hardcore/metalcore influences and a similarity to the death-turned-thrash of the Haunted. Burkhard Schmitt's vocals also put me in the mind of Napalm Death.
Deguello Wartunes offers an interesting mix of sounds that is, above all things, brutal. It's a pit-ready blend of modern aggressive metal styles that is sure to whip listeners into a frenzy. If you like your metal heavy, fast, angry, and absolutely brutal, you'll want to check out Hate Squad's latest manifestation of rage.
