When I was little, my brother and I spent months toiling away over a game called "Shadowgate", a primarily text-based fantasy game where you search around, collect items and solve puzzles. Back in those days, Shadowgate was quite a departure from the typical run/jump/attack type of games that saturated the market, instead testing your wits and patience rather than your reflexes. We adored the game, but only wished there had been others like it.
Well, fast forward a little over a decade, and throw the internet into the mix, and I came to find out that the same company had in fact released two other games using the same style and interface. I quickly got my hands on a copy of each and began playing with lunatic fervor.
Deja Vu is one of these games. The gameplay is essentially identical to Shadowgate except that this time you are unraveling a retro detective story, complete with plenty of guns, broads, trench coats and generally unsavory characters.
Honestly, I still think Shadowgate is the best, and I suggest playing it first, but Deja Vu holds its own both in terms of fun and challenge.
Sadly, the third and final game "Uninvited" was a bit of a let down. It seemed promising at first with a "haunted mansion" storyline, but in my opinion, lacked the heart and effort of the other two. The graphics seem rudimentary and rushed in many places and the puzzles quickly become absurd. For the most part, I found myself forced to simply wander around using every possible object in every possible situation until something worked.
Wrapping up, Shadowgate and Deja Vu are both wonderful games, and if they seem to be up your alley, they probably are. They will at least be worth your money.
Uninvited on the other hand is only valuable for those seeking to satisfy an appetite whetted by the other two.

This game is a classic. I still own it actually along with my NES all boxed up with the old games. It took me a while to figure this game out but the more I played the more I got into it and started to figure out how to get this games story moving. There were some hiccups like at the very end where the game wouldnt let me finish it for some odd reason. My buddy picked up the controller after I got up to do whatever and did exactly what I had been doing for two hours and bam! Game finished! Lame. I barely remember the gameplay but I do remember that it was a new kind of game that i was used to playing and it took me a while to finish it. They need to remake this for todays game consoles. I like the whole detective gumshoe storyline and solving riddles and crimes and such. It was pretty fun from what I remember though its been 18 to 20 years since Ive played it. You start in Chicago somewhere on Dec 7th 1941 in a bathroom stall with no memory of who you are and youve been framed for murder. Through the game you must use clues, solve riddles to figure out who you are, why youre framed and how to get memory back (which you do) and clear your name. Love this game and it should be remade for the newer consoles. I dont care what system it comes out on either.

Basically u r unraveling a retro detective story, u find and get to use plenty of guns, broads, trench coats, and generally unsavory characters the entire time!!! Watch out for thugs though, they steal everything u got, and if u shoot them, the cops lock u up... Simple as that. It is simple but yet fun.. It is a game of luck! Whether u r at the slot machine, or just deciding what street or car to get into next! Have fun!! And the ones u find most beautiful, definately are not ur detective's friend...

The game came in a nice timely fashion and all I can say is that I was very pleased
