For True Fans...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dejame Entrar (Audio CD)
As a big fan of Carlos Vives, I will admit this is not his greatest CD. I still think "Classicos de la Provincia" will forever be his best recording. However, if you are a true fan, this CD is a must. He continues to improve on his writing skills, both musically and lyrically. From the opening song "Dejame Entrar" he displays his talent for a beautiful, yet simple lyric. Other great songs are "Carito" (showing his english skills), and my personal favorites "Amor Latino" and "Santa Elegia". All in all, this is a really good CD. I recommend it to anyone who likes Carlos or vallenato.

exploring new musical alternatives,

If you are looking for classic vallenato, this may not fulfill your expectations. Though maintaining the accordion as a central actor, Vives incorporates other instruments (guitars and gaita) which gives the songs more of a "fussion" feeling. Good lyrics, but sadly he felt to the tempation of including some English words, as well as the commonplace "Latino", in a clear wink to English-speaking audiences. It is good dancing music (something not very desirable for classic vallenato but which at the same time can be a very good introduction for newcomers to vallenato) but falls short when compared with previous works. A very positive note is that Vives explores other Colombian rithms, something that will sure enrich our musical habits. A must for Vives' fans, a great present for the upcoming christmas season.

Interesting album-another aspect of Carlos Vives,
This review is from: Dejame Entrar (Audio CD)
Admittedly if I had reviewed this album a year ago when I first purchased it, it would not have scored so high in the ranking because I was not attracted to this music at all and as a result I neglected to listen to the album for a year. I recently played it again to see if my opinion had changed and believe me my reception was completely different. This is a great album and although it has typical Carlos Vives nuances the rhythms are very Caribbean and that of Carlos'modern vallenato. I would say this album is a mellower version of his previous production "El amor de mi tierra" which I think is a tremendous one no doubt. This one offers a variety of musical rhythms and I don't know how he managed it but the influence of many genres of music can be heard throughout the album, Afro beats, rock, son, cumbia all have been well blended into Carlos' unique modern vallenato style. In a nutshell, if you have some previous music from Carlos Vives and if you like afro-Caribbean rhythms this production will catch your attention. It's definitely for listeners and dancers of vallenato and for those who can appreciate his unique style. I am glad I gave this album a second chance.

This is a Good CD!!!! I am happy to hear that Carlos is back. This CD has good songs and good rythym. A Vallenato album from the man from Santa Marta. It makes for good listening, especially to anyone who enjoys good rythm and tempo. Chevere

"Dejame Entrar," Carlos Vives' double Grammy Winning latest is a latin music lover's dream album...melodic, percussive and fun from start to finish. The title track stands as one of his best ever, and the singer delivers a heartfelt lyric that in lesser hands might sound silly or dull. As good as that song is, other tracks are equally solid - especially "Carito" - which Vives recently performed at the Latin Grammys (with the stop-traffic-stunning Rosalyn Sanchez and his own young son. Its bilingual schoolboy-crush lyrics capture every young boy's classroom antics at one time or another, and the fusion of languages makes it accessible to ANY listener. Vives' superb vallenato style is on display throughout and I bet the artist will single-handedly put this unique blend of rhythms and substance on the map for the entire world to dance along to. Colombia - the country - has produced some of the best Latin music in recent years, with Juanes, Shakira and Los Tri-o breaking through to global audiences. Like those artists, Vives is a superstar with a commanding presence that defies his down-home demeanor. Buy this album and then delve into the artist's past releases - this is a bona fide top-tier winner all the way through!

If you are familiar with Carlos Vives work, this CD is the continuation of a successful and a very original way of interpreting Vallenato. Carlos has single-handed created a new genre based on Colombian folk music. All the songs on this CD have the charisma and originality that only Carlos knows how to deliver. Bravo! Carlos.

Although he always writes beautiful songs, and his CDs are great, I think this is his best work yet. His music attracts all types of latin music lovers, and this CD is a perfect example. He has songs to simply listen to and a some to dance to. If you like his music, you need to buy this one.
