More About the Author

Jeanette Baker is the award-winning author of fifteen novels, most of them set in the lush countryside of historical and contemporary Ireland where she lives and writes during the summer months. Her ancestors, the Flahertys, hail from Inishmore the largest of the Aran Islands located off the coast of Galway. She takes great pride in the prayer posted by the English over the ancient city gates, 'From the wrath of the O'Flahertys, may the good Lord deliver us.'

Jeanette graduated from the University of California at Irvine and holds a Masters Degree in Education. For the remainder of the year, Jeanette teaches in Southern California and enjoys the company of her grown children. She is the Rita award-winning author of NELL.

Irish fiction has always been a favorite of mine, and this book fits the bill. Full of irish scenery, small villages, friendly people and romance, The Delaney Woman is a perfect example of irish storytelling. Jeanette Baker manages to mix the aspects of a murder mystery with sweet romance and family tradition perfectly to create a book well worth it's cover price.

Kelly Delaney is a broken woman when she returns to Ireland to search for clues in the death of her brother and nephew. While looking for the killer, she checks into a local inn, run by he mysterious Tom Whelan. A number of clues lead her to wonder if the quiet, gentle Tom Whelan is really who he says he is. Is he her brother's killer? Or is he simply an innocent bystander? Kelly has to fight her romantic feelings toward the handsome irishman, and find out why her enigmatic brother's life was ended so abruptly.

Don't expect your typical romantic storyline with this one. A number of twists, turns and suprises will keep you on your toes and flipping pages. The Irish/English conflict also plays a major role in this one, so those of you who are unfamiliar with the violence of this ongoing battle, read up. It's important to know why these people are fighting for their freedom.

All in all, Jeanette Baker is a fantastic writer with talent to spare. Irish or not, she is a storyteller, plain and simple.

Kellie Delaney loves her widowed brother and treats his son as if she gave birth to the lad. The two male Delaneys are everything to Kellie until the police inform her that her two beloved relatives died in a car crash in Wales. Wrecking her already shattered psyche, she learns the collision was deliberate to eliminate Connor, who worked undercover.

Kellie obsesses over learning why her brother was marked for death. She learns of a Tom Whelan of Ireland though she cannot see his connection to her sibling, but assumes he is probably the killer. When Kellie meets Tom, she realizes he is not what she expected as he is a caring person that she is half in love with even though he is married. When his wife leaves prison, Tom's IRA past surfaces placing Kellie, the woman he now loves, in peril, especially since she hides her agenda from everyone.

THE DELANEY WOMAN is an exciting romantic suspense tale that includes a powerful cast especially the grieving heroine who readers will empathize with and understand her motives. Though issue resolution is a bit too simplistic, the story line moves rapidly forward yet contains depth so that the reader comprehends the complexities and contrasts of opinions. Secondary characters strengthen the plot so the appreciative audience receives a fine thriller.

I found this in my bookcases and I have no idea how it got there. I was bored one day last week and needed something lighter to read while taking a bath ~~ and found this book. It fit the mood I was in ~~ I needed something romantic and a murder mystery to solve. I've never heard of this author before and it's a great book to take on vacation.

It is about Kellie Delaney and her search for justice. Her beloved twin brother and his son were killed while driving on a vacation in Wales. While cleaning out his apartment, she discovered a name, Tom Whelan, who lives in Ireland and she sets off to Ireland to find out what Tom knows about her brother's murder. Tom is a man with a haunted past. He currently owns a bed & breakfast place and is father to an adorable imp of a daughter named Heather. Meeting Tom and Heather as well as Tom's mom made Kellie feel like maybe there is hope and love after all. Only thing is, someone is keeping her from discovering the whole truth of Connor's murder and she may be the next victim.

It's a fast read. It's great to take on vacation or on that long plane ride.
