A Collection that epitomizes Delbert's accomplishments, November 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Delbert McClinton, Classics Volume Two (Audio CD)
To answer the proverbial desert island question, as it would pertain to only one Delbert McClinton album, "Plain from the Heart" must be the choice of a true Delbert enthusiast. From the raucous, can't keep your seat, gotta dance and sing-along tunes such as "Rooster Blues" and "I Wanna Thank You Baby" to the slower, thought-provoking, and lyrical classics like "I've Got Dreams to Remember" and "Lipstick Traces", Delbert makes all the songs he sings his own, with his inimitable vocals and arrangements. Even a remake or cover like "In the Midnight Hour" is a new experience when a musician like Delbert can make you feel like HE feels. Delbert can make us feel that way, because you can't help but feel tha Delbert is one of us, and we are one of him. So, I strongly suggest you go to your desert island, take along "Plain from the Heart" (and maybe an extra long extension cord), kick back with "plenty o' red wine, a whole lotta sunshine" and Delbert McClinton on the "Sandy Beaches".

I can't think of a more versatile interpreter of "blues-rock" than Delbert. If you like blues that makes you want to move something, you need to get into McClinton. This album is a good place to start. If you already dig Delbert...'nuff said.

Finally!, August 10, 2009
This review is from: Delbert McClinton, Classics Volume Two (Audio CD)
I had an old cassette that had been made for me by a friend who knew Delbert. It may have been from a studio recording session. My old version of Lipstick Traces and Sandy Beaches were just as they are on this CD. His newer versions are so much faster and not quite as sexy sounding. Thanks to many of his followers, I was put onto this CD and I play it several times each week. Great CD. Great musician.
