This CD has rapidly made it onto my heavy rotation playlist and is a road trip staple! Such an interesting blend of jazz, tango, hip hop, pop, soul and something else that can't be articulated! Perhaps it's because she is Dutch, but there just isn't anything else out there like this. Anyone familiar with the Verve Remixed compilations will probably enjoy this modern adaptation of classic style and nostalgic sex appeal. While some of the lyrics fall short ("Mr. Band Leader, let's kick out the jam, give me something that will light it up, and make my feet go bam bam bam"?! Really?!), still, the overall groove and tone of the songs make up for it. Certainly worth a listen and several songs are posted on youtube in full with the official Dutch music videos...

I was introduced to Caro Emerald on a radio show where they never specifically spelled out her name so it took awhile to find her album. Her name is NOT Carol Emmeraux, Carol Emiril, or Carol Emeraude.
She is a great female vocalist with a beautiful voice backed up with excellent musicians. The tracks are stimulating, interesting, and fun. A few tracks have a James Bond feel, especially "A Night Like This", "The Other Woman", and the guitars on "The Lipstick on His Collar". The music is a mix of jazz and hip-hop with a 1930's feel to a few tracks. Listen to the samples and enjoy. To hear a sample of her voice, there are a few a capella versions of her songs. Personal Favorites: That Man, Just One Dance, Riveria Life, The Other Woman, You Don't Love Me, Stuck, I Know That He's Mine, A Night Like This

A friend of mine who was on a European tour this summer recommended Caro Emerald after seeing her live.
Actually, what she said was "You need to go ahead and download "That Man". I have found a new band that I love, because it has everything: pin-up girl singer, dj on the stage, and a band. And it sounds a little like the Muppets". which is actually a fairly good description. To me, all the music has a late-40s swing/early 50s club vibe to it, plus sort of a Fatboy Slim kinda thing going on. It's really great. And, "That Man" is oddly reminiscent of The Muppet Show opening theme. To me, that's a big bonus. I find these songs getting stuck in my head at odd times, but that's okay. they're all pretty darn good. Enjoy!

An unexpected treat,
This review is from: Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor (Audio CD)
I took a risk on this album after I heard a snippet of "That Man" on the radio and loved the sound. I didn't regret it at all. It's a hugely enjoyable album with a 30s and 40s swing sound (and hints of the Andrews Sisters) combined with 2010 production. Caro Emerald is a really good singer and she gives very good material a real sparkle. There is an excellent brass section, a fine keyboard player and terrific rhythm sound from percussion, guitar and double bass, with the addition of a bit of synth and scratching. I'm not a fan of scratching at all, but it isn't obtrusive and works really well here. The overall effect is irresistible from smoky ballads to swing numbers you just can't sit still to.
This was a real departure for me, but I'm delighted that I've discovered it. If in doubt, my advice is to buy it - it's a classy, joyous treat.

Ms. Caro Emerald is a terrific vocalist who needs some exposure in the USA. I was referred to her music by a friend in the Netherlands who said she is a smash hit over in Europe. After listening to several of her tunes...all outstanding! I had to get her album. Unfortunately she has no label in the US for distribution and I had to purchase the import. But is was well worth the money. Watch her U Tube videos of several of her songs from this album and you will not be sorry!

Caro Emerald defeats Michael Jackson,
By
This review is from: Deleted Scenes from The Cutting Room Floor (Audio CD)
This debut album spended more than 26 weeks on top of the Dutch charts and defeated the album Thriller of Micheal Jackson, which held the record of 26 weeks. An incredible achievement for a new group debuting with their first album. Why? It's difficult to guess. But certainly the album sounds fresh and has a breeze of sensitive, cool and something nostalgic atmospheric. At first play I had to think about Dr. Buzzards Original Savannah Band with their hit "Cherchez La Femme" and Kid Creole. It's a nice set of songs, good musicians, a dj and a superb lead singer Caroline Esmeralda van der Leeuw, her name as basis to the group name Caro Emerald. Fun to play, listen or dance to. New tunes with a jazz, latin, 50ties touch but sounding fresh and vibrant. Something new and remarkable! Check it out!

I'm actually not sure how I discovered Caro Emerald, but I loved the beat, the rhythm, voice and melodies once I started listening to her. There are many different styles in there. A Night Like This is my favorite tune right now and I'm listening to it at least 2-3 times a day while I work.

Wonderful Uptempo Retro Jazz with a Modern Vibe,

The United States needs to discover Caro Emerald. She has several radio friendly songs that could break into AC formats including the smash hits "Back it Up" and "A Night Like This". Like several others said, a great blend uptempo jazz the recalls lounge music of the 40s and 50s but with a vibe that is so much today.
