5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Go Wrong with this, March 7, 2002

1970 was a great year for Soul music, and this album certainly helped matters along. Any album that originally contained incredibly beautiful songs like "When You Get Right Down to It,' "Trying to Make a Foool of Me," and the all time classic of this genre "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time," the song that truly defines this era, you can't go wrong with these catchy hooks and beautiful harmonies! As long as CD's like this are available, lovers of GOOD, TRUE SOULFUL music have NOTHING to fear from modern mutations (mutilations?) of this genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars When You Get Right Down To It..., June 12, 2001
This review is from: The Delfonics (Audio CD)
It was with great pleasure that I received this CD, a long-awaited reissue of their classic new material from 1970, as a gift. The Delfonics released this album right on the heels of "Super Hits." In my house, both albums could be heard playing back-to-back all summer long. "Delfonics" turned out to be a greatest hits package, all by itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars This 1970 Classic IS WORTH IT, January 18, 2005
This review is from: The Delfonics (Audio CD)
Growing up back in the days in Harlem NYC, my Aunt wore this album out to death. Every single song A CLASSIC. The Delfonics has one of the best REAL TIGHT HARMONIES, something what's now missing with the music of today. The cut "Delfonics Theme (How Could you)" The musicians (Also a part of Gamble & Huff's TSOP)they really get down on this cut just listen to it you don't hear no electronics or drum machines. If you don't add this classic to your collection, it won't be complete. Even to this day I have the original vinyl I still listen to this classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars I must be dreaming !!!, August 5, 2006
This review is from: The Delfonics (Audio CD)
Am one of the all time biggest fans of the Delfonics, love everything that they did. But for the life of me I can't began to imagine why "Tell me this is a dream" has been overlooked by so many supposedly Delfonics fans and experts. I think William Hart was one of the true "Geniuses" of love theme music of our time. So, will someone reissure Tell me this a dream I tired of searching for it, it is truly a lost treasure !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic, April 8, 2002
This review is from: The Delfonics (Audio CD)
Anything done by the Delfonic's is worth the price. With that said, anything during the 70's by the Delfonic's is worth its weight in gold! This was a great LP while I was in high school, this is still a great LP! In my opinion, William Hart has the best false ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars They Gave To Us..., November 3, 2008

Stone Cold Classic...1970, 8th/9th grade, Jr. High School. Felicia gave some slammin' house parties.

You'd get your 'knit' out of the cleaners, shine your 'Flagg Bros' boots, match your 'thick-n-thin' silk socks, Continential cut (straight leg, slightly high water) slacks, and your Panther style, black leather jacket. 'Fro had to be picked out to the max', with; 'BRUT', 'English Leather', 'Hai Karate', 'Jade East' or 'Old Spice' colonge overwhelming the 'Right Guard' deodorant you sprayed too much of on...and finally a 'Dutch Masters' cherry cigar, unlit...to top it off. There were no fights, no guns, no knives, not seriously anyway...everybody just wanted to slow-drag and the classic 'I Gave to You' WAS the cut. Everytime I hear it...I'm back in Felicia's basement, under that blue light, trying to get through the night...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest RnB Groups of All Time, March 16, 2008

The Philly legensds, The Delfonics release their 3rd album, their self-titled 1970 classic. This album has some real memorable cuts here. I really dig William Hart's falsetto "Trying To Make A Fool Of Me" is such a beautiful track; it has some of the best choral harmonization I have ever heard. The beat is nice, rolling funk with a nice sitar and horn added. The joint is kinda sad where a guy needs to be let go in a head-game filled relationship. It is one of my favorite soul jams ever. "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind this Time)" again employs the early 70's sitar trademark. Again, the harmonization is outstanding, and the chorus has a heavenly, airy feel to it. A sweet slow jam is "I Gave To You." William Hart really digs deep into the soul with this romantic charmer. "Baby I Love You" is a nice, mid-tempo joint lush with melody and a upbeat vibe. When the group "bop bop bop bop's" early and later on, it will give you goosebumps. "Down Is Up, Up Is Down" is faster paced deals with more hardships of the romance game using an interesting metaphor. "Funny Feeling" is even faster paced, cool for dancin' to. All I can add is that the album is wonderful; I hear nothing today that even gomes a hundredth of the way to measuring up to this one, and this album is 12 years older than I am. The Delfonics are one of my favorite soul groups (along with the Stylistics).

This is a great piece of early 70's, non-disco influenced soul music. My only gripe is about Amazon's pricing. $6.99 for a hard copy/shipped and $9.99 to download. Hardly seems fairly priced. Gotta give us a "Green" break.

I'm not black.. and you DON'T have to be to enjoy this fantastic cd of soulful harmonizing and political lyrics. Yeah.. these guys were smooth but dropped jewels as well. A sign of its time, but still can appreciate what they attempted to do: get the girls and politicize the community.
