This review is from: Delia's Crossing (Delia Series) (Hardcover)
The life of the main character, Delia, goes from believably bad to unbelievably bad; and the bad characters she meets along the way are pretty one-dimensional. The author of Delia's Crossing seems to write with a broad brush. Evil, Super-Evil, and Beneath Contempt, the "bad guys" don't seem to have another side to their nature to make them actually interesting or believable; the reader just has to accept them as flatly disgusting. The good memories Delia has, are of her grandmother back in Mexico. And those memories are equally over the top-- Saint-like. There is a sprinkling of extra characters in the book who are neither too good or evil, but are also of not much consequence to the story nor very interesting. The plot meanders maddeningly, as if new personalities were being tried out on some of the characters. I longed for it to be over. One good thing: I did learn a few Spanish phrases. I otherwise felt that even the folks from Mexico were portrayed in caricature. If I were V.C. Andrew's English teacher I'd suggest she try a re-write; with more character development, and fewer sequenced meaningless tragedies. (We're still getting constant fresh tragedy at every turn on page 387.) Enough already!

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring and insulting, September 21, 2008

This review is from: Delia's Crossing (Delia Series) (Hardcover)
Delia's Crossing is a poor debut to yet another lackluster series by Neiderman. I have nothing against the main character being Latina or a Mexican native. However, this story was rather simplistic, with all the characters being almost caricatures. Isabella is a very lackluster villain, and honestly, just about everything in here was predictable, as per the ghostwriter's usual standard. I get the feeling that he just doesn't care about writing these as much as he did, which is a shame, as Delia cannot hold a candle to Cathy, Heaven, or Dawn. The next two books in this series aren't much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars great tale of people in crisis, October 12, 2008
Delia Yebarra is dreaming in school about yesterday's quinceanera celebration when her grandmother bursts into the school and takes her home. She informs the teen that her parents died in an auto accident. Delia leaves her Mexican village to live with her wealthy aunt Isabella in Palm Springs, California. Isabelle married an older rich man. The grieving teenager is shocked that her aunt is taking her in because Isabelle turned her back on her family and village years ago.

When she arrives at her aunt's vast estate, Delia is told she will live in a rundown building and will be a servant until she learns to speak English fluently. Nobody will know they are related, but eventually Delia's cousins Edward and Sophia learn the truth. Edward welcomes her to the family and tries to protect her. However Isabelle and Sophia try to harm her so Delia flees for home with a Mexican fugitive at her side.

If this tale is any indication, V.C. Andrews's new series starring Delia will be a big hit. Delia feels like a fish out of water in the states especially since she does not speak English and thereby unwelcome by her aunt who along with Sophia uses her niece for personal reasons; Delia has no idea how to fight back. Even her relationship with Edward is ruined by her aunt's machinations leaving her isolated as a stranger in a foreign land. This is a great tale of people in crisis learning to cope with the hand fate (and a cruel relative) dealt them.

3.0 out of 5 stars a step up for ghostwriter, September 27, 2011
I must say that these books were a big step up up for Neiderman. After orphans, wildflowers, shooting stars, broken wings, celeste, shadows, early spring, and secrets( none of which I could finish and Im a huge vca fan and read HER books over and over again through the years). I am ecstatic that he finally wrote a decent series after willow! Thank goodness! I was almost ready to give up on vca.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the next 2 in the series, October 13, 2008

I will have to say first off, if you haven't read the book you should not be reviewing it. There is no such thing as a review when you've nothing to review.

Now, this book was very well written and well thought out. I will admit there were a few books in the VCA series that I did not like more than others. But I have liked all that I have ever read. I have been reading the VCA since Flowers in the Attic. In fact, I saw the movie with my mother before I ever read the books. That is what brought me to read the books. And I have been an avid fan ever since, always adding new books to my collection whenever I spot them.

This book left me in suspense and wonder. Just as you think you know what is going to happen next, it changes. And the characters are as you would suspect for a VCA book. And the indepth descriptions of the senses (sight, sound, smells) leaves you really feeling as if you were there watching from afar.. able to see everything vividly, hear everything, smell everything. It's wonderful that a writer can write something that makes you feel as if you are truly watching it. It is better than a movie because your imagination can fill in everything for you and nothing is simply forced upon you.

This book is very believable. I can believe that a woman such as Isabella would be like this. I can believe she would simply toss away her heritage like she has. And that she would hinder her own children from knowing their true heritage. I am wondering what is next to come, why she wants to have Delia in her life so badly. Why she is so eager to please her son Edward and give him what he wants in regards to taking care of Delia. I can only wonder what new love interests await for Delia. I recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed eny of the past VCA series.

I really liked the following series of VCA; Logan, Gemini, Shadows, Wildflowers, Secrets..

3.0 out of 5 stars VC Andrews books, July 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is not one of her better books. The book at times just lagged at the story and got to be boring, but there were parts especially with her cousins and aunt that was like reading one of her old books. The whole attack scene on her and the part where her guy friends went after the boy who attacked her. The whole crossing of the desert and then believed that her friend was killed and then she found out that it was just a fake death so people would leave his family alone because of him and his friends killing the rich kid who attacked her.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED THIS BOOK, March 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Delia's Crossing (Kindle Edition)
I just finished this book and I LOVED IT. However, I do have to admit that I love VC Andrews's books and always have. I use to read all the time and somehow lost track of it. But since buying my Kindle recently I think I have my MOJO BACK. And why not after reading such a good book.

Worth the $7.99 that I had to pay for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Misfortunate journey, May 5, 2010

This book spent a little time in my TBR piles, which shows how impatient I am when it comes to read this articular author for me. This book orbits around the character name Delia, who lost her parents at the beginning of the book while she was in the middle of class, which is the turning point of her life. Her grandmother couldn't take care of her, and surprisingly, her mother's sister, Delia's Tia Isabella offered to take her into her own care.

Migrating to America, Delia found out she has two cousins, namely Edward and Sophia. Edward is the kind one, and Sophia is the one who tries to make her life a living hell. Moving into a rich place, rich relative, Delia should be well off right? Nope! Her Tia Isabella doesn't really welcome her much into the family. Misfortunes after misfortunes follows her around, like the evil eye.

I love the plots, and I love the quotes within this book. The characters are lovable and hate-tables, which shows how into the book I was in reading it. I also love the cover. The plots are fast and really pulls you in once you've started reading. I have a hard time putting this book down when I have to do somethings.

Would I recommend it? Yes! Absolutely!

Ok.. I need to correct a mistake some librarians have with VC Andrews books. Her books DO NOT belong in school libraries! Yes they are popular, but it is NOT suitables in any High school or elementary school libraries. Get it to your head! Why? Incest and Sexual nature of it. Yes, she is popular, but NO! do not have ANY VC Andrews in your school library! It however belongs in a public library though. Her books are just too great to not be in a library! '''

3.0 out of 5 stars very interesting, but what's up?, March 6, 2009
I gave this a 3 because it was addicting enough for me to read it in a few nights. It was great to be able to go to Delia's Mexican home and see the love that surrounded her even though she was poor. I hated her aunt and Sophia just like the author wanted us to, and I loved Edward. Everything added up, but what's up? I have not read all VCA books, but every one that I have read has some kind of incest in it. Do ALL her books have that? I read the first 2 or 3 series she wrote and gave up because I was a little concerned about this. I picked up Delia's Crossing at the library to give it another chance, and there it was again; Delia's cousin was made to feel her up! Anyway, it was a good book, and I would recommend it to VCA fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Started off slow but when it ended I wanted more, April 23, 2011
It took me a little bit to get interested in this book. Once I got to a certain point I couldn't put it down. After finishing it I ran out and bought the second and third one in the series right away. The second book was even better then the first with non stop roller coaster events through out and I read it within a few days. I would recommend this series to a friend or other V.C Andrew lovers.
