5.0 out of 5 stars This is one great quality pocket knife!!
The first thing that you will notice about this knife (besides the unusual looking "wave" feature) is that it just feels well constructed. 2.0 out of 5 stars It broke, no easy fix
This was not a cheap pocket knife but I liked the wave feature and I believed what I heard about the quality. Within a month of the purchase the 3 tiny screws that hold the clip on backed out. Fortunatly I did not lose the knife or the screws BUT the three tiny screws have a very unusual slot pattern which for all my efforts I have been unable to match. Since I could not...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one great quality pocket knife!!, March 8, 2010

The first thing that you will notice about this knife (besides the unusual looking "wave" feature) is that it just feels well constructed. It is a great balance of thin and lightweight without feeling "cheap" in any way. When using the knife, I notice that the handle is noticably bigger than the blade which allows for a really good and safe grip. The high quality VG-10 steel comes very sharp, and holds it's edge for as long if not longer than any other knife I've ever owned.
I went back and forth for days deciding whether or not to get the "waved" version of this knife. I finally decided to go with the waved version simply because i've never owned a waved knife, and I wanted to try it out. I'm happy with my decision, even though (after owning the knife for a couple months) I do find the wave to be a little unnecessary. While the wave feature works EXTREMELY well, I just rarely "need" to have my knife automatically open (it is more of a self defense or tactical option). I did find out that the wave hook on this knife makes a perfectly decent bottle opener if you are in a pinch (it's not as good as an actual bottle opener, but it gets the job done.)
One thing that I must mention is that THIS KNIFE IN IN NO WAY GRAY IN COLOR!!! I know it says gray, but it is in fact a dark navy blue color. I like the color a lot, just dont expect gray or you will be disappointed.
I like this Waved Spyderco Delica 4 so much, that I plan on getting a new regular one soon when they are released with new handle colors and a full flat grind on the blade. You can't go wrong with Spyderco.

I bought the Delica Wave to replace my Kershaw Scallion, which was great, but I wanted to switch to tip up carry and the Scallion doesn't have a reversible clip. The Wave took a little getting used to but now I can get it to open reliably every time. The knife feels sturdy, the blade cuts well, and the clip is perfectly positioned for tip-up carry(riding high enough that it's easy to draw but low enough that it's reasonably well concealed and I'm not worried about it falling out). What's not to like?

4.0 out of 5 stars Delica Wave, March 3, 2010

This is a good knife but would recommend careful consideration for your tasks before purchasing a Delica with the wave feature as opposed to one without. The handle is good and the FRN provides good grip when wet (color is blue gray by the way.) Knife is extremely sharp as can be expected with all Spydercos and sharpens well. My issue is with the Wave feature. It is much larger (about 2x) than that used on similar Emerson knifes. One would think this would make deployment easier however I have noticed difficulty when trying to get the knife out of jeans or reinforced pants. The wave tends to catch deeper in the pocket than where it should and this could lead to a cut pocket if not carefull. I have found that it does work great though for looser pants (Underarmour workout pants) and I will be keeping it there while I carry my Emerson or Stainless Delica 4 in my jeans.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best pocket knives in existence, October 29, 2009

This review is from: Delica 4 w/ Emerson Opener (Kitchen)
Delica is great for most daily tasks where one needs a knife. It is relatively small and thin, which makes it easy to carry in your pocket. Yet very sturdy and made from really high quality steel (yes, steel does make a difference in how long a knife stays sharp). It comes super sharp right out of the box. Handle is dark grey, not black.

The "wave" next to the opening hole comes into play if you clip the Delica in your pocket. As you take it out, the wave catches on the fabric of the pocket and opens the knife, all in one movement. If this is not your cup of tea, look for the regular Delica model which has a more conventional looking blade that does not try to open by itself.

If the Delica has any limitations, they are the same as its strengths: it is a relatively small folding knife - for some tasks, you may want a longer blade or fixed, non-folding knife. Delica may look expensive at first, but it really stands head and shoulders above most similar sized knives, so it is worth it.

This is your typical Spyderco quality knife. I'll spare everyone the review as many good things have been said about their knives.

This review is for the Emerson opener with the knife. For those that are thinking about this feature, it allows one-handed, one-motion deployment of the knife in an situation where you need that type of deployment (emergency strap release, self-defense, laziness etc...)

I have had original Emerson knives with the opener, and the Spyderco version is a bit deeper and more parallel to the knife blade, which still works as designed, but catches more often than the original Emerson design which is shorter and at a more obtuse angle.

For that, I deduct one-star. For value for the money compared to Emerson knives, you can't beat this Delica.

This makes a great carry-all-day knife. Very light weight. The clip can be moved to 4 different positions so you can carry tip up or down, and set for left or right hand draw. The wave feature is great for martial arts use. The slightly less than 3" blade length makes is legal in most places (check your local laws!) and is adequate for defensive use (if you know what your doing). Keeps a nice edge with just an occasional sharpening touch up. Razor sharp out of the box.

The Emerson opener is genius. Works every time after a little practice, and makes a great bottle opener. Great blade, keeps sharp easily.

2.0 out of 5 stars It broke, no easy fix, November 23, 2011
This review is from: Delica 4 w/ Emerson Opener (Kitchen)
This was not a cheap pocket knife but I liked the wave feature and I believed what I heard about the quality. Within a month of the purchase the 3 tiny screws that hold the clip on backed out. Fortunatly I did not lose the knife or the screws BUT the three tiny screws have a very unusual slot pattern which for all my efforts I have been unable to match. Since I could not fix it myself I decided I would take advantage of the "life time gaurentee". Forget about that. I would have to pay to ship and insure the knife then pay them another $14.00. By the time I was finished I would have over $100.00 into this clip knife. Aint gonna happen! There is nothing that special about this knife. Emerson did not even provide a place for email communication on their web site. If you want to praise their products or complain about their products you can write them a snail mail or phone them... Hey Emerson, its the 21st Century and you are selling pricey bobbles, how about a little customer service here. My advise to anyone considering the purchas of an Emerson knife; there are plenty of good clip knives at a fraction of Emerson's price. Get one of those. If it breaks or gets dull or you lose it just forget about it and get another one. You will be happier way ahead of the game $ wise.
