Wonderful, versatile cook book.,

Dot Vartan's latest cookbook, "Delicious Salad Meals," is a must for any cook who needs ideas for light, delicous meals that are not complicated to prepare. What I like most about the book is the organization, which divides the salad/meal recipes by type, e.g., poultry, meat, seafood, etc., and then once you choose a recipe, side dishes are given that complement to complete a meal. The recipes are delicious, easy to follow, well written, and include ingredients that are not hard to find at the grocery store. A fine resource for weekday meals for those who want to put together a healthy meal for the family after a day at work. The book provides great ideas for party salads, too! And I've given many copies away as hostess gifts. A versatile, affordable cook book that I recommend highly.

I have all of Dot Vartan's cookbooks, including Mad About Muffins and Is it Soup Yet and like those books, this book has great, easy to make (and follow) recipes. I especially like the meal planner; this way I don't have to think too much! I highly recommend this book.

I love the way the book is organized into 5 chapters. Each recipe is easy to read and in almost every case, I already have all of the ingredients on hand. It's also nice having the recipes for bread, muffin and dessert accompaniment right there on the next page.

I recently purchased this cookbook after reading the good reviews here. Some of the recipes I tried did not turn out as well as I liked. The Middle Eastern Salad, for instance, seemed to contain far too much bulgur considering the amount of other ingredients. It also did not specify which type of bulgur (there are several varieties, so this could be an important piece of information). There are other such oddities throughout the book.
There are positive aspects of this book, however. There are recipes suitable for a variety of occasions (pot luck, fellowship meals, dinner at home, picnics). Most can be prepared quickly with ingredients that are commonly found in most supermarkets.

I love this book of salads. I have been wanting recipes that aren't the same old combinations you find at restaurants!!! My family actually looks forward to eating their veggies, because this book is so creative in the combinations...
We entertain alot and mixing the combination of salads as side dishes allow our guests to eat healthily while feeling like they have a special meal in front of them!

Dot Vartan's new salad meals book provides quick answers to entire meals that are nutritious and tasty.Make all or part of
a menu. The most difficult part about making meals is deciding what to have. Keeping pre-cooked meats, seafood, etc. in the freezer makes most of these salad meals a snap--just what you need after a busy day.

I bought this book for my mother for a Christmas gift. She loves the recipes, etc. The binding though is falling apart already and she's had it for less than a week. Pages were cut wrong and bound poorly. Very disappointed in physical quality of book. :(

I bought this cookbook as an impulse purchase because I, like most of us, need to incorporate more vegetables into my family's diet. Little did I realize how pleased I would be. I think the author is absolutely inspired. Every time I try one of these new salads, I'm intrigued and amazed at the way she combines colors, tastes, and textures to make beautiful meals with delicious and complex flavor combinations. This is the way we should be eating--lots of fresh fruits, lean meats and fish, and exciting flavors. The fact that this cookbook gives you a menu idea with the salad as the main dish is an added and appreciated bonus. As I write this, my tummy is happily enjoying the Grilled Steak and Vegetable Salad with Goat Cheese Tart we had for lunch. By the way, no one in my family had ever had goat cheese, but the kids and hubby thought it was delicious. I also love that the kids are starting to think of fresh, healthy foods as a meal--a great departure from heart-stopping chicken nuggets and fries. Some of the recipes have lots of ingredients, but don't let that scare you. Dot Vartan has my thanks and gratitude.
