5.0 out of 5 stars I Wear My Life
It's been almost 5 years since Jo Dee Messina's last studio album BURN in 2000. DELICIOUS SURPRISE is a cd I wasn't sure would ever see the light of day. It was originally scheduled for a 2003 release then kept getting pushed back. Curb didn't like the original one, so she had to put it on hold and rework it. 3.0 out of 5 stars Heaven was needing a Hero
I bought this CD because reserach indicated that HEAVEN WAS NEEDING A HERO was on it and I wanted it for a funeral. This song is NOT on this CD... Does anyone know where I can find it. At this point, I'd pay album price for the song, or even import price.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Wear My Life, April 26, 2005

It's been almost 5 years since Jo Dee Messina's last studio album BURN in 2000. DELICIOUS SURPRISE is a cd I wasn't sure would ever see the light of day. It was originally scheduled for a 2003 release then kept getting pushed back. Curb didn't like the original one, so she had to put it on hold and rework it. She also had a stint in rehab and other personal problems like a broken engagement, but she is finally back.

I was delighted and surprised that the first single "My Give A Damn's Busted" shot up the charts. A #1 single! It's a great tongue in cheek song that suits Jo Dee. Most of the songs on this cd have to do with survival, having a positive attitude, or being reflective. One of the best ballads is one she helped write called "Love Is Not Enough", a poignant ballad about how it's hard to move on from a broken relationship, and that sometimes love isn't enough to stay together.

My favorite ballad though is the closer, "You Were Just Here". What a sad song! It's about losing someone who passes away and not being able to cope with the changes. Having lost someone near and dear to me last year I can relate to this song well.

"Not Going Down" and "Someone Else's Life" are positive uptempo numbers that are nice. "It Gets Better" is a nice ballad. "I Wear My Life" is another positive song that I like quite a bit. "It's Too Late To Worry" has hit written all over it, a great song with a catchy chorus. "Where Were You" is another great one!

This is a great album from Jo Dee. It's a very positive album and touching. You definately need to check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait !!, April 26, 2005
This review is from: Delicious Surprise (Audio CD)
What a great CD. It finds Jo Dee in TOP form. Her vocals are great. The songs are of varying tempo and content.....makes it hard to decide if Jo Dee's ballads, or "rockers" are more her forte....she does both so well. The ballads are reminiscent of those on Burn....the uptempo remind me more of the older Jo Dee stuff.

A great addition to your Jo Dee selection. Well worth the wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Girl Power Album!, March 8, 2006
This review is from: Delicious Surprise (Audio CD)
I bought this because I heard such good things about it from people I knew and now I know that they weren't wrong! This CD is outstanding. It is from start to finish the catchiest album I have heard in a long time. JoDee makes you feel what she is singing, not just hear it. That is the way a song is supposed to be! Great work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jo Dee does it again - her way, May 7, 2005

Delicious Surprise has been a long time coming for Jo Dee fans. I have been playing it non-stop since I got it, she sounds awesome! I love the upbeat stories in "Someone Else's Life" and "It's too Late to Worry" (known to fans as 'the Wal-mart song') and turn around and feel the ache in "It Gets Better" and "Love is Not Enough". The hella-sassy "My Give a Damn's Busted" is delivered as only Jo Dee could! I am also glad she included her live show staple "Not Goin' Down" and her rockin' cover of "Delicious Surprise". Jo Dee also had a hand in writing a couple on this one and "Life is Good" shines, it is about everyday being a treat. This CD is a treat and "My Give a Damn's Busted" going to number one on Billboard should be an indication of the great things to come from the rejuvenated Jo Dee. Go girl!

4.0 out of 5 stars DELICIOUS SUPRISE EQUALS DELICIOUS CD!, August 29, 2005
This review is from: Delicious Surprise (Audio CD)
In 5 words, this CD is:

ROCKIN', INSPIRING, UPLIFTING, THOUGHT PROVOKING & FUN!!!

I really adore Jo Dee and have all of her albums!

I thoroughly enjoyed this album, and I think it has a WONDERFUL MIX OF UPBEAT, PROVACTIVE, THOUGHT-PROVOKING LYRICS WITH BOTH UP & DOWN TEMPO SONGS!

The reason I gave Jo Dee 4 stars instead of 5, is because a lot of the tracks sound very similar, musically speaking, to tracks on her "I'm Alright," album.

"I'm Alright," is also a great album of Jo Dee's, and consistancy is a good thing, Jo Dee's style definately works for her and is enjoyable!

I would reccomend DELICIOUS SUPRISE to any JDM fan, or someone looking to discover country music for the first time! It's a good "break 'em into country" CD!

My favorite songs on the album are:

LIFE IS GOOD:
This song is so upbeat and fun I feelit alone is worth purchasing the CD. I really hope it's released as a single because it's something we all need to be reminded of. It's also great to hear Jo Dee upbeat, happy and with a better outlook on life! This song is just AWESOME!

JDM's songwriting skills have improved and some of the stellar examples of that are:

IT GETS BETTER: an inspiring and uplifting ballad that JDM sings with heart and soul. You can HEAR her conviction almost as if she's singing the song just for you! Definately a potential theme song for anyone who is or has gone through hard times. And, we all have! Very well written and greatly sung!

LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH: Jo Dee perfectly captures the truth and pain of knowing when enough is enough when a relationship has gone sour. I've always believed that love alone isn't enough and Jo Dee expresses this with pain, anguish, honesty and brilliance! Very well done, lyrically and vocally!

WHERE WERE YOU: is a kick-butt, in your face song that we all can relate to at one time or another! Great vocals on this one too! I'm glad she put this on there!

Songs also worth mentioning:

WHO'S CRYIN' NOW: yes, it might be a bit cliche'd, but it's so true and real. I love the girl power and "na na na" tone of this song. It's just so GREAT! Very fun and catchy!

DELICIOUS SUPRISE: I was mixed about this song when I first heard it. I don't think it's very country, but it's very fun and I find myself listening to it again and again. I think this has potential to be a big hit as it's her current single from the album. It's definately an inspiring dreamer's song. Gotta love those!

MY GIVE A DAMN'S BUSTED: Oh oh, GIRL POWER and FREEDOM! This song is absolutely kick-butt, in your face and SO WHAT?! I LOVE IT! It is quite different from the rest of the album as well as different, musically, for Jo Dee. But it's great and fun and rockin'!

This whole album is entirely relatable and is good for anyone going through a breakup, or looking for some inpsirational music that's a lot of fun!

Great music, great lyrics, great fun!

AWESOME JOB JO DEE!!!

-Sarah

the cd was great..but I wish that they could have left track 13--God needed a hero- on the track list..the song is powerful and it reminds us of the men and women servicing for this country of ours.

5.0 out of 5 stars ** Women DO have the power!!! **, April 28, 2005
This review is from: Delicious Surprise (Audio CD)
Okay-- Jodee did it again!! The song "My Give a Damn's Busted" was what prompted me to purchase this CD-- and because I've been a long-time Jodee fan. I especially like the song "It's too late to worry" and "Not going down." Most of Jodee's songs on this album can be related to in everyday life...from men treating women wrong in "Give a Damn's Busted" to people gossiping in "Too Late to Worry." There's trial and how to over come it in "Not going down" and getting over the 'rainy day friends/lovers' in "Where were you"--- Jodee just SCREAMS "Girl Power!!!" in this album!!
