A sixth grade teacher,
By A Customer
This review is from: Delirious: A Collection of Poems for Kids 8-88 (Hardcover)
Being a sixth grade teacher, one of the areas of curriculum I need to teach my students is poetry. Unfortunately, the students usually groan when poetry is introduced due to the seriousness of adolescent poetry. My students still love Shel Silverstein, but think his poetry is a little "young" for their very "advanced" adolescent minds! Thanks to Mr. Allfrey, they now have a book of poems that are Silversteinesque without being juvenile. Thanks to Delirious, I was able to begin my poetry unit by reading good, but funny poems. All of my students were laughing out loud. I've never seen sixth graders so excited about poetry! This book is fabulous for teachers to use in the classroom...all the way up to 12th grade. Parents will love this just as much as the students.

Great Book, Great Speaker,
By A Customer
This review is from: Delirious: A Collection of Poems for Kids 8-88 (Hardcover)
Mr. Allfrey not only captured the hearts and imagination of my students and staff with his collection of poems, he was gracious enough to share his personal insights on the writing process and the pre-writng process. His poetry had many keen insights that my students could readily relate to, and his topics are easy to apply to all facets of my curriculum. A great crossover book.

Fantastic worm's eye view of the core of emotions!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Delirious: A Collection of Poems for Kids 8-88 (Hardcover)
NOTHING'S sacred. Just like all of us kids (and face it; we ARE all kids)Brian would like to let it all hang out--and he does. There's no roping in his imagination and creativity. Every emotion is tapped. Deja vu sets in and past memories of "Oh my gosh! that's ME!" come wriggling to the surface. Written from a kids' eye view and VERY refreshing! A real pick-me-up! He might as well live in a glass house--we know all about the family! Thank God your family loves you, Brian. They DO, don't they? One of my favorites? "The Haircut"

Funniest book of poems I've ever read!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Delirious: A Collection of Poems for Kids 8-88 (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my kids, but I couldn't put it down myself. I laughed hysterically when I read My Zipper Is Stuck and Waiting In Line, then I cried when I read Dilly Dally and I Love You As Big As A House. My daughter read I Really Hate My Brother and laughed so hard I thought she was going to choke. Our whole family loves the book!

Delirious for Delirious,

Cover to cover fun for all to read. This author has taken day to day life and presents it in funny poetic verse. Each poem touches on very real heartfelt life events. "7th Grade" can easily apply to anyone of either sex or any age that has dreaded the thought of taking showers in the school locker room. "Sunday School" was especially fun, reminding myself of dreaded teachers of years ago. No one can resist a full belly laugh after sampling "Laundry Day". 87 peoms in all, this book is well worth the read and will make an excellant gift. I will be looking forward to much more from this author.

Don't let the kids have all the fun. Be sure you adults read this hilarious book too! I bought the book for my teenagers. They enjoyed it almost as much as I did. Mr. Allfrey's worped view of life's everyday craziness is very entertaining. Keep your eyes open for more reality Mr. Allfrey 'cause I'm ready for your next book of poems.

For the Child In Everyone!,

This review is from: Delirious: A Collection of Poems for Kids 8-88 (Hardcover)
I discovered "Delirious" while babysitting for my 6 year old nephew and 8 year old niece. They were fighting over which one of them could read the book. To settle the situation fairly, I told them to each pick their favorite poem in the book and I would read it to them. Big mistake on my part as they each had several favorites and could not decide on the two poems they wanted to hear. After approximately a half hour of debating, my niece settled on "Girls" and my nephew chose "Just Kidding". Reading the poems to them, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed them. All of the poems in the book are cleverly written and touch on topics that have universal appeal to anyone who remembers what it is like to see the world through the eyes of a child. I think I wound up enjoying the book more than the kids did. What a pleasent surprise!

My Mom gave me this book as an early Christmas present. I love it! It's like someone went into my brain, picked my thoughts, and wrote these poems. I Really Hate My Brother is very funny! I can't wait for another book to come out by this author. I also can't wait to show it to my friends. I know they'll love it too. This is a GREAT book!

having purchased this book by an author i had previously never heard of, i was somewhat skeptical. what i found, was a book full of easy to read story poems that appeal to people of all ages. surely we can all identify with many of the situations related through mr. allfrey's writings. the poems are addictive in that you cannot just read one and put the book down, thinking of them later continues to put a smile on my face. this book was so good, i purchased additional copies for gifts. i hope to see more work from mr. allfrey on amazon in the future.
