Trouble brewing,
By The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deliver Me From Evil (Hardcover)
In DELIVER ME FROM EVIL, Christine, who has grown up on the wrong side of the tracks, meets and marries the man of her dreams. J.R. has big thoughts of becoming a wealthy businessman and he puts his heart and soul into growing his video company. Soon the perfect marriage is coming apart at the seams because J.R. has no time for his wife. Christine is aware, but J.R. seems oblivious in his mad pursuit of the almighty dollar. He even moves his mother, who needs intensive personal care, into his home. He, nor his family, will hear of Christine having a live-in nurse to help her. Then his brother-in-law and sister run up on hard times and move in also. J.R.'s sister has never liked Christine and even though she is in Christine's home, she lets her know it in no uncertain terms how she feels.
Wade, a former friend of Christine's, enters the picture. He is good looking and has been away in Hollywood attempting to forge a movie career. Now back in town, he and Christine resume their steamy affair. Wade knows how unhappy Christine is and he comes up with an intense scheme that will either free Christine or ruin her life. Will Christine take that chance? DELIVER ME FROM EVIL is an enticing book of steamy love scenes, mad, crazy family dysfunction, scary scenarios and a lot of tension. Christine's life is told in flashbacks so we know her, as well as Wade, quite well. J.R., by his worship of money and family, is also well-developed. This is definitely a novel worth reading. It's hard to put down. Reviewed by Alice Holman of The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers

Ending let me down!,
By
This review is from: Deliver Me From Evil (Hardcover)
It took me almost a year to read this book. Everytime I picked it up, I would put it back down because the beginning didn't catch my attention. Last week I decided to give it another try, and low and behold it was pretty good. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I must say that she really disappointed me with the ending. Does this mean that there will be a part two? That would be the only viable explanation to such a weak ending. I was truly let down.

(4.5 stars) Breaking Point,
This review is from: Deliver Me From Evil (Hardcover)
Christine Thurman had the perfect marriage with Jesse Ray Thurman. She was a bad girl gone good after Jesse Ray married her and together they built a successful video store empire. Fast forward twelve years and Christine now feels that her life is now less than perfect. Jesse Ray is so obsessed with growing his business that he puts his wife on the back burner. Because she's not getting the attention that she deserves from her husband, Christine is forced into the arms of an old flame named Wade Eddie Fisher. Wade left the neighborhood a long time ago in search of Hollywood dreams but when they fizzled out he came back home broke as ever. But this still didn't stop him rekindling a torrid affair with a now unhappily married Christine. Things get risky when Christine comes up with a scheme that will give her everything she always wanted. But will her plan work or will it blow up in her face?
Deliver Me From Evil is a thrilling novel from Mary Monroe. Monroe takes readers on a journey into the wild mind of a woman taking desperate measures. The thing that really pulls you into this novel is how abruptly this whole story begins. One of the bizarre twists to this novel is revealed in the first few pages which was unique. The characters are rich and vivid as well. You'll actually sympathize with Christine when you see what lead her to take such extreme measures. You will also wonder why Jesse Ray couldn't be more cognizant of his wife's needs. Monroe skillfully incorporated a good dose of humor and sex into her classic trademark storytelling style that makes this a true page-turner. Deliver Me From Evil is another winner for Mary Monroe that does not disappoint. Reviewed by Radiah Hubbert for Urban Reviews
