Book Description

Originally published by Dorchester Publishing, March 2007

After being dumped by her boyfriend and passed over for yet another promotion, Monica Gardner moves to New Orleans, determined to make a name for herself as the new attending ER physician at Methodist Memorial Hospital. As for men--she's through with them. But when given the chance to chair the hospital's annual charity banquet, Monica must elicit the help of gorgeous Ob-gyn Elijah Holmes.

Eli will do anything to thwart his matchmaking Mama's plan to reunite him with his high school girlfriend. So, when the sexy new ER doc asks for his help in planning this year's charity banquet, Eli devises the perfect scheme: He'll help put on the best banquet the hospital has ever seen, if Monica poses as his new girlfriend. But when Eli finds himself falling in love, he realizes convincing Monica of his true feelings may be his greatest delivery yet.

From the Back Cover

LEAVING AN IMPERFECT PAST... Monica Gardner is starting over. The brokenhearted St. Louis native has nothing left at home any longer: her future is being an ER doctor at a New Orleans hospital. Her first day makes for a bumpy start as she continually runs into handsome but irascible Dr. Elijah Holmes--a man who could make her change her mind about finding true love.
FOR NEW EXPECTATIONS For years, Dr. Eli Holmes has been living up to his own high expectations--and is burning himself out in the process. The only time this "Super Doc" ob-gyn slows down is to notice the beautiful eyes of a newcomer, Dr. Gardner. He's pleased to know that she's more than just a pretty face, she's also an ace physician. When they work together, sparks fly. But with both Monica and Eli trying to hard not to fall in love, they realize they can't resist this affair of the heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting debut by a new romance writer February 21, 2007
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Dr. Monica Gardner leaves her cheating fiance and never-satisfied parents behind in St. Louis to take a job at a hospital in post-Katrina New Orleans. Dr. Eli Holmes, known as "Super Doc" at the same hospital, is not so super outside its doors--his policy is to dump every girlfriend after four weeks and to never date doctors. The two get off to a rocky start, but must find a way to work together to save a crucial hospital program that provides prenatal care for women who can't afford it. Can Monica learn to trust, and can Eli break his rules for the right woman?

"Deliver Me" delivers a satisfying, uncontrived love story with many laugh-out-loud moments. In addition to the two likeable main characters, the author treats us to many appealing side characters: Eli's two boisterous brothers, his matchmaking mother, Monica's fun-loving and loyal best friend, and a couple (Eli's patients) whose marriage may fail because of the wife's secret. The beautiful recovering city of New Orleans is almost a character in itself. Don't miss this debut novel by Farrah Rochon!

NOTE: The cover may be gorgeous, but its dark, mysterious, and even dangerous feel in no way conveys the mood of the book. This is a happy book about two good and dedicated doctors who put all their efforts into their careers and need to learn to find satisfaction in their personal lives as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book with a Great Storyline March 2, 2007
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I am a huge romance fan but am very choosy about the authors that I read because I'm not a big fan of the more er, 'graphic' novels and prefer a great storyline any day.

Deliver Me, by Farrah Rochon is exactly the kind of book I look for: Witty, fun and interesting with multiple characters to relate to (rather than just the hero and heroine). Deliver Me kept me up way past my 'bed time' (as someone who gets up at 5am daily this is a true measure of a good book for me). The more sexual scenes were also tastefully written so I wasn't blushing every 10 pages.

I give this book an A+ and I can't wait for the next one!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for me May 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Maybe I didn't give this story enough of a chance because I did stop reading. The heroine comes to town as a new doctor. She seems to have a chip on her shoulder and pissed at the world. He is a good OB dr., handsome, successful, etc. He goes after her with both barrels blazing. WHY? certainly not because of her personality, the only thing I could see is because she was beautiful. Pretty is as pretty does!! She can't even be half way civil towards him because she is so ATTRACTED to him. What? are they 10? I found that I was not enjoying the story AT ALL, I just kept trying to figure out WHY he kept trying.

Then a side story was a young couple devoted to one another but she treats him like dirt. She has bi-polar and hasn't told him. Don't you think on3\e would wonder what was going on and find out? I found that side story just too depressing. He kills himself trying and she treats him like something on her shoe! Get real.

This story just didn't do it for me. Too depressing. I like to feel good about the story I am reading and I found this one just pulled me down. I didn't care for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Read! March 2, 2007
By Shannon
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the type of book that leaves me wanting more! The characters are well drawn, interesting and the type of people I'd want as my friends in real life. I was able to see, feel and understand why Monica Gardner and Elijah Holmes fell in love with each other, and I had such a good time watching it happen. As a health care professional I found their world to be completely believable; it's rare to find someone who isn't a doctor truly understand the crazy schedule and long hours that go with the job. The author did a pretty good job with the medical lingo, too!

I won't go into the details of the story - the synopsis here does a better job than I could. But I do want to add that the location (post-Katrina New Orleans) was like another character in the story. The author's love for the city and its people is evident in every chapter.

The only reason this book gets 4 stars instead of 5 is that it was over too quickly. I wanted to see more of Eli and Monica! Hopefully I will, when the other Holmes brothers get their own happily ever afters.

3.0 out of 5 stars Deliver me May 12, 2013

This book was not too bad. What I liked was the characters were well developed at first. Then there were a couple of new
characters introduced. I kept waiting for them to be connected to the main story, but they never were.
I did not like how the ending was framed. It seemed the author rushed through that as if she just wanted the book to end as quickly as possible. Another chapter would have been helpful to tell us how they solved their misunderstanding and where they went from there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just Short of a Smooth Delivery March 8, 2007
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In Farrah Rochon's Deliver Me, we are introduced to a heartbroken and ready-for-change Monica Gardner who moves to New Orleans to heal herself and help in the healing of the city post-Hurricane Katrina. A native of New Orleans, Dr. Eli Holmes, affectionately known as, is breaking hearts and delivering babies in a single bound. The first time these two actually meet, assumptions are made and tempers flare with their immediate attraction to each other adding to the flame.

As destiny would have it these two doctors find themselves on the same banquet committee to save the prenatal clinic. When Monica proposes an unusual idea for raising money and needs support from Eli, he proposes his own idea in exchange that she pretends to be his girlfriend for about three months to keep his mother from matchmaking. It does not take long for them to realize that they are through with pretending and the real deal is in full effect. The problem is will past heartaches and hang-ups keep them from loving each other?

Farrah Rochon has got the romance knack down to a fine science. With the traditional playboy meets the outstanding beauty with a mind of her own, there is just enough tension and chemistry between the protagonists to give her readers the romantic rush. These characters get lost in each other, which sometimes acts as a truth serum for them. This aspect made the story fun for me.

The first half of the book moved well, but once the characters got together the story seemed to be a bit drawn out before the climax. Also I did not buy the play out of the climax because the characters seemed to respond out of character in order to make the ending right.

With that said, romance lovers will love the heat and the play between Monica and Eli.
