5.0 out of 5 stars An overlooked underrated classic
When I first started listening to C.O.C. a few years back "Deliverance" was the album that introduced me to them. And what an introduction it was, six years later and this is still one of my all time favorite albums. 3.0 out of 5 stars a strong effort, but not as good as the albums it's between
This album marks a transition from the heavier sound of blind to a more groove-based southern-style sound that also characterizes wiseblood and America's Volume Dealer. There are some great songs on this album, most notably "Clean My Wounds", with its impossibly infection guitar beat, and the swirling and heartfelt "Seven Days". On the whole, though,...

5.0 out of 5 stars An overlooked underrated classic, April 29, 2002
This review is from: Deliverance (Audio CD)
When I first started listening to C.O.C. a few years back "Deliverance" was the album that introduced me to them. And what an introduction it was, six years later and this is still one of my all time favorite albums. "Albatross" (which I just found out the other day that a music video was made for it) and "Clean My Wounds" are catchy and simplistic, but are undeniably heavy and remain live staples for C.O.C. today, while acoustic instrumentals "Without Wings" and "Mano de Mono" add an emotional impact to the album. "Seven Days" is my all time favorite C.O.C. song though, the lyrics are tied into the crucifixion of Christ and the guitar harmonies are really pulled off well and has a solo nearly reminiscent of Slayer. "My Grain", "Senor Limpio", "Broken Man", and the title track are favorites of mine as well, and "Deliverance" is rounded out as my favorite C.O.C. album with "Wiseblood" a close second. If you have never listened to C.O.C. before but you like Pantera or the Down albums then any C.O.C. album is recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Seemingly Unstable Band Finally Finds Firm Ground, July 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Deliverance (Audio CD)
In Thier last 3 Albums, COC has gone through many changes in band members. But with Deliverence, and the proof that they stayed the same with Wiseblood, shows that this band has finally found what they've been looking for. And the music shows. When you first listen to the album, the track that stands out the most is probably "Clean My Wounds", which has become one of the bands most popular songs. Using pretty simple guitar riffs, the band puts out a more than simple beat. And the guitar solo fits in perfectly to give the song a kick. It automatically became one of my favorite songs when I first heard it. I knew I had to hear what else COC had to show. "Without Wings" and "Mano De Mono" show the bands more quieter side, using nothing but music. "Shelter" does the same, except with lyrics. And it sends a strong message, 'You've been cheating my friend / Tell me whos heart is bleeding again'. The heavier parts in ! this album include "Broken Man", "Senor Limpio", and "Deliverance", along with others. Some give a sound that people aren't used to, which might make some of the album an acquired taste. This is probably why they dont get the airplay that they do deserve. Overall, Deliverance is their best album thus far, and Wiseblood doesn't fall short by much. I hope this band keeps making music, and as long as it keeps this quality, i'll keep buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars EPIC, May 4, 2005
This review is from: Deliverance (Audio CD)
Sure Pepper was in COC when Blind was recorded, but this album marks the beginning of a band and a sound that has no equals.

Most people revere this album as some kind of hallowed gem and they are correct. The first COC album to be dominated by Pepper's songwriting and singing - it showcases a talent in music that few can match. It's like Pepper comes from some super-planet of music - where maybe the only other inhabitant is Tony Iommi or something.

But this album also makes it VERY clear that Mike, Woody, and Reed are monsters in their own right. They collectively create something that oozes virtuosity. Each player is a master of their sound and instrument and it all comes together in some hazy dreamlike brilliance.

This album is required material. After countless spins - my fav song is `Pearls Before Swine'. That rumbling bass line and the amazing blast into the hook is unbelievably good. WOW!

Corrosion Of Conformity can speed their sound and go mental as in their beginings or either can slow down the madness and be more judgemental, but always they will stand for their ideological and political tougths "better to live on your feet than die on your knees" they know how to use their freedom of expresion , freedom of speech, freedom of free asociation, they have bveen always very extreme when it comes about the emancipation of ideas regarding the system that involves the goverment institutions, their message is very clear "united we stand" and of course in not that deep issues, they simply love to play good southern rock and metal and enjoy cold beers.

As ussual, sabbath is the constant in the guitar riffs, souther rock in vocals and attitude and all this comes in a political concept that is present in every record since "technocracy" when their direction pointed to hardcore and punk, but when "blind" was released they were more oriented to hard rock and metal style and their southern roots and they obtained critics recognition.

Now , according to recent COC statements they have returned in some percentage to speed and ferocity in their upcoming album "In the arms of God" lets wait to see if they blow our minds away once again

5.0 out of 5 stars More balls thana metal band deserves to have, July 20, 2001
This review is from: Deliverance (Audio CD)
This album is the album to end all. I have yet to find a heavy album that sports more balls, talent, anger, and emotion than Deliverence. The southern sound is exactly where rock should and does come from. There's nothing meaner than a southern boy with something to say. The opening riff to "Senor Limpio" is by far the most incredible and talented guitar riff I have ever heard. The siplicity of "Clean My Wounds" is amazing in that it has never been done before. And the title track is so sleazy, southern, dirty, and incredible that the sudden ending will literally make you jump. This CD has the sound that I have been searching for for years, and I have yet to find something near as good in the 5 years that I have owned it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Special Album, January 29, 2007
This review is from: Deliverance (Audio CD)
'Deliverance' by Corrosion of Conformity is, without question, an album that anyone who is even remotely interested in heavy music should own. I have had this album for over a decade, and I am still not tired of it.

It amazes me how unknown and unappreciated this album is. This album is in the same boat as Temple of the Dog, an amazing album that most people will never hear. It really is that good, so go buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A long-forgotten gem, July 2, 2004
By
This review is from: Deliverance (Audio CD)
I was looking for music to review for amazon recently and one of the cds I came across was Corrosion of Conformity's "Deliverance". I bought this cd back in '95 or '96. It was awhile after the album was released. I bought it because I loved the song "Clean My Wounds". I'm not a big metal fan but I fell in love with the song almost immediately. It was nothing like the metal music I was exposed to back in the '80s and early '90s. CoC's music. The music is melodic and heavy enough for both genders to enjoy. I was really moved by the acoustic instrumentals "Without Wings" (my personal favorite of the two instrumentals) and "Mano de Mono". I was also moved by the ballad "Broken Man". "Deliverance" definitely delivers. It is truly one of the best hard rock albums ever. I wish there were more bands like Corrosion of Conformity. They managed to make music that would appeal to all types of people.
