About the Author

In her search for love and acceptance, Janet Gillispie traveled a long, hard road through addiction, prostitution, homelessness, racial prejudice, violent rages, degrading activities, betrayal, and regret. Delivering a fourth child that she did not want, she had a radical encounter with God. In that instance, she was radically transformed and has never looked back. Quick to admit that she is still flawed, she and her daughter are examples of God’s redeeming power, His ultimate love, and His unexplainable peace. Her 30 years of deceit and guilt had her constantly moving from job to job; however, the new Janet was recently recognized by her employer as Outstanding Employee of the Year. Quick to admit she is not a saint, all who know her can see the remarkable difference in her life and the sense of joy and peace that she has.

After reading a blurb about this book, I went to Amazon to check out the Kindle edition. The book interested me for several reasons. (1) It was promoted as a powerful and uplifting story of recovery from some of the deepest depths, (2) the sample revealed her focus on the power of God and spirituality in her changed life, and (3) I knew I'd be familiar with some of the locations she'd reference having lived in Birmingham myself. As an AA member who knows that spirituality and God are key to my continued recovery, her story interested me. Even though her childhood and life were very different from my own and despite the fact her own experiences were different from and much darker than anything I've known, in my own experience and in what I've seen firsthand in AA, anyone who has ever struggled with alcoholism (or any addiction for that matter) can relate to and learn from others' stories.

But when I read the reviews on Amazon, I found many of them to be oddly similar and succinct. Common refrains included various takes on how "amazing" the book is, "love it," "must read," etc., with "amazing" being the most popular description and with almost all of them being five-star rave reviews. Such striking similarities in so many of the reviews combined with the fact the majority of them were written by individuals who haven't reviewed anything on Amazon BUT this one book both concerned me. While the abundance of similar five-star reviews by one-time reviewers is not always indicative that a book will turn out to be not nearly as good as reviews indicate, unfortunately that has often proven to be the case. So that's something I take note of after having been burned by past purchases I ended up regretting.

I picked this up and could not put it down. It took only about 6 hours for me to read it the whole way through. I felt as though she was telling me this in person, not that I was reading it for myself. She is an inspiration in every sense. So many stories that deal with addiction have such different endings it was great to see someone come out on the other side better than before and to see how God was working through her life and to bring her through it. As someone that attended school at UAB and lives and works in the Birmingham area, it really hit home for me. It is an amazing testimony, that everyone should read.

I knew this was going to be a good book and so I waited to start it until I could read it through. Well that didn't happen so I kept it in my car and I would read a paragraph or two at a stop light. So far, I left a copy in South Carolina, sent one
to Texas and I have one on the way to Alaska. I believe Janet's story is going to touch more lives than I can imagine. I couldn't put it down and I want everyone to read it. I plan to read it again. Never give up on what God can do in the life of someone you care about. Janet was able to successfully use the agencies that have been set up to help those in need. I am so glad that was part of her story. I am so thankful that Janet has been willing to share her life with us.

Delivered is a very powerful message of God's perfect timing and unconditional love! Once I started reading it, I HAD to read it as Janet told this compelling and truthful story of her life before and after Christ. I live in the Birmingham area and have used several of the medical facilities she mentions,so am familiar with some of the places she talks about, which made it all the more real to me. I bought it to read but also bought it to give to a friend of mine who has an addicted daughter in much this same situation. The story is sad in many ways but also is full of God's blessed hope! Thank you Janet and Sammie! God must be very pleased with this book too!
A must read!

In reading Janet's story, I pictured every person I've ever seen or known who appeared to be a hopeless case, and realized that no matter what depths of sin one can fall into, there is always hope in the Lord. From beginning to end, we are given the privilege of seeing the hand of God at work as he totally transforms the heart and life of a miserable sinner into a joyful woman who reflects His glory. Though my path of sin is different from Janet's, I was just as lost and needed Him just as much. Her story touched my heart and humbled me as I was reminded of the power of God's love to draw us to Himself.

Delivered is a testimony to God's amazing love that we are never too far gone from His mercy and grace through His Son, Jesus, to transform our lives. This should be required reading for anyone who is considering recovery, thinks that God doesn't care and that we have strayed too far for God to love us.

Very personal and interesting story. I know will look at those less fortunate as me in a different way. Great book to have a teen read so they won't want to go down that path of drugs and alcohol.

I have the privilege of working with Janet now and seeing her now after reading this book, knowing some of the things she did and experienced and how she got to where she is now is just awesome. She shares a powerful and real life message of God's love, grace, and mercy and how with Him truely ANYTHING is possible. A message I needed to hear. Janets story is one of determination and triumph and must be shared with everyone. All of us endure adversity of varying degrees and experience times of hopelessness and lonliness. Janet beautifully proves that with God you are never without hope nor alone. Thanks Janet for being so open and candid and for your testimony that I hear you share every day at work, not only through your words but in your actions and loving on people.
