4.0 out of 5 stars DVDs that work well
I have used Delkins Archival DVDs for some time. This was the first batch that had the 8X rating on them. This is a vast improvement and makes archiving images much less painful than it was when they were 4X. The doubling seems to make more difference than mere maths would allow but that may be perception instead of reality. I had no disk burning errors and they always...

1.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but not impressed
I have 5 DVD burners in 3 different machines. These discs will work with exactly ONE of them. They're incompatible with the others. As the company suggested, I upgraded drivers and tried a few of the tricks they recommended. Nothing worked. Also, when I realized they weren't working, the company offered to refund my money. After a week of trying to get one to work, they withdrew their offer...sticking me with a spindle of very expensive, almost worthless DVDs. As far as if they'll actually last 100 years? Nobody can possibly know. Big thumbs down.

I bought two packages of these disks by mistake after having good success with Verbatim Gold DVDs. I've tested every burn speed on my Quad Mac running OS-X 10.5.1 and they burn great, but never finish or verify. You can use these disks for coasters, not burning. Not recommended -- they would get zero stars if the rating option went that low.

The doubling seems to make more difference than mere maths would allow but that may be perception instead of reality. I had no disk burning errors and they always worked first time. I used Roxio 2009 and have 3 gig of Ram on XP SP3 and this seems to be reliable. I burn nearly 200 Gig of data a year so I use a lot of these. Highly recommended. Note you only get 4.4 gig rather than 4.7 gig so only four stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Arrived in a broken, taped container, July 31, 2009

I ordered Gold Archival DVDs for storage of my photography collection. I didn't open them right away because I was upgrading to a new computer. Today I tried to open the container and found it very difficult. I thought it was just extra-solid plastic wrapping, but when I found that the case was VERY badly cracked, I got the wrapping/label out of the trash. I discovered that it had been torn--probably when the plastic case cracked--and solidly taped back together.

These DVDs are not cheap. They are supposed to be "The 100 Year Disc". Can you imagine how confident I am that the DVDs are not damaged and that they will last 100 days, much less 100 years?

This kind of shoddy practice is shameful. This will be my last purchase from anything offered on Amazon.com that can be bent, broken, or mutilated.

To say that I am disappointed is putting it mildly.

I've been using these on two different DVD burners without a single problem. I haven't had any coasters, and the product came in excellent condition. It's certainly nice to have a non-hard drive long-term storage solution.

I wouldn't have minded a little more room on the disc to write my description, but that's a minor point.

Check back in 95 years. If the data is still readable, I'll forgive the skimpy Description line and give it that fifth star.
