Fits Panasonic DMC-FZ35 reasonably well.,

This review is from: Delkin Devices DU2.8-M BLK Universal Pop-Up Shade for 2.7-Inch and 2.8-Inch LCDs (Black) (Electronics)
This device will fit the FZ35 well. Width wise, it is just wide enough not to block the LCD. But just barely. A 1/32 inch wider might be better. Height wise, it is just a little small. I didn't measure it, but perhaps small by about 1/64 of an inch. I let it cover that little bit at the bottom of the LCD. No problem at all. I don't even notice it. Can't even notice it.
The outer dimensions of the device are perhaps 1/16 inch smaller all around than the raised area of the LCD, so it fits well with a little room to spare. The LCD in my camera apparently is not quite centered in the raised area. It's off to the right just a little. Consequently, on my camera, the device fits all the way over to the right edge of the raised area, with no room to spare. On the left side there is almost 1/8 inch of the raised area still showing. On my camera I mounted the device as high as it would go. Right up under the viewfinder, touching the viewfinder. This was necessary so that the device did not block any portion of the LCD at the top. Touching the viewfinder does not interfere with the viewfinder or the device. It is possible that the Delkin Devices pop-up shade made for a 3.0 inch LCD would fit better. Giving a little more room around the LCD. But, I don't know this. There is one fairly important drawback to this pop-up shade. If you use the LCD to take pictures, normally the camera is held a little below eye level. In this case, with the top of the pop-up shade sticking out, it blocks your view of the top of the LCD. You would have to hold the camera slightly above eye level in order to look under the top of the shade and see all of the LCD. This is not comfortable. If necessary, the top half of the device slides to the left and can be removed completely. Leaving only the bottom portion of the frame that is stuck to the camera, and not blocking your view of the LCD. Currently, for my use of the camera, I don't use the LCD to take pictures. I use the viewfinder. I only use the LCD to look at the menu or to review the pictures that I have taken. In this case, I can hold the camera at any angle I want and the shade does not interfere at all. My purpose for the shade is protection of the LCD. I can not speak to the value of this device as a 'shade' for the LCD as I have only just received it and I do not use it in that way. To mount the device on the FZ35: First, do not yet remove the tape on the adhesive, or the plastic film that protects the back of the clear plastic shield of the device. Turn the camera on, zoom it to about 2X, and point it at something light and bright in color. This should illuminate the entire LCD so you can see exactly where it is. Put the device over the LCD and look carefully to see exactly where you want to position it. Practice moving it into that position without touching the LCD. Also practice putting into position straight. It is easy to get the thing cockeyed, so practice doing it straight. Once you think you can do it right, clean the LCD absolutely clean. Remove the plastic film covering the back of the clear plastic view screen. I scratched at it gently with my fingernail until I could get a corner of it loose and pulled it off slowly. Do not remove the tape on the adhesive yet. Practice a couple more times putting the device in place and straight. Remove the tape on the adhesive and position the device without touching the camera. When it is in place, gently set it down and adhere it to the camera. Press down all around the edges to make it adhere well. Let it sit for five minutes without messing with it. Some adhesives work best that way. You are finished. Note 1: On the device that I put on my camera there is the word 'Open' and an arrow pointing to the right. As though you are to slide the top portion of the device to the right in order to remove it. This is backwards. You slide the top portion to the left in order to remove it. Note 2: If you have trouble using the viewfinder because your nose presses against the back of the camera, this device will increase the problem. There, I'm done.

I'm very happy with this. It's always been so difficult seeing the LCD display while taking pictures outside on a bright, sunny day. This hood really helped with this problem. And it was inexpensive!

My husband has purchased several of these for various cameras and has recommended them to friends and family. Not only does it cut down glare, but it protects the LCD screen from strong sunlight and fingerprints, and the occasional raindrops. The design also makes the pop-up shade look like it came as part of the camera.

Own several in different sizes for different cameras. The only pop up shade out there that is removable from camera. A must for cameras with LCD screen.

This product may protect your LCD screen but does not provide enough shade to make screen viewable in bright sunlight. I would not have purchased this devise if I knew it wouldn't work.

I just got the brand new Panasonic DMC-FZ28 camera and wanted this shield to protect the screen. I affixed it to the back of the camera and it looks like it's going to work out just fine.
With the lens cap affixed on the front and this shield closed on the back, I get the impression that my camera is now thoroughly protected by these plastic pieces of "armor." I think it's great for protection, and I can see that it will work quite well to keep sun glare off the screen. Great product!!

Received unit prior to Christmas and now am able to evaluate. I have another camera
with a Delkin shade,(better built) only older. I have found the unit to be flimsy and the adhesive cover paper difficult to remove without a lift tab. Price wise the price is a little too expensive for the value. I was hoping for a higher quality, however it is usable.

The part that raises keeps popping off as I try to open it. Right now I'm handicapped with one arm in a brace, so I can't get it back together. Hopefully when I have 2 hands to manipulate it I'll be able to solve the problem.

I bought the Delkin 3.0"-M for my Leica D-LUX 3 and it didn't fit. The aspect ratio was not correct but I liked the shade so much I thought I'd give one a try for my little Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS. Its perfect for the Canon. It even fits on the camera when I put the little duo in its small black leather Lowepro case (Napoli 5) that is the size of a pack of cards, though the shade easily slides on and off if thats what you prefer. Overall I'm very pleased. I just wished they'd make one to fit the D-LUX 3 as well as publish the aspect ratio of the shade along with its three dimensions. It would have saved me $10.00.

I have yet to use this in the "real" world. I bought one for my video camera and one for our still camera.
I had to modify the one for the video camera because the screen is a touch screen and closing the screen shuts to camera off. So I attached Velcro to the hood. I have yet to see how the still camera works with the hood. It depends on whether or not my wife gets frustrated with the hood. |
