Good accessory, looks good, buttons are all functional and the shade in the LCD helps a lot when shooting outside. The only flaw is that it makes the access to the on-off lever a bit hard.
February 2009 update : It still looks like new. I didn't experience any kind of sand accumulation underneath the cover, not scratches. I use my camera outdoors and in harsh environments such as corn fields in Iowa during the summer (PhD work) or vacations in the Brazilian summer (including shooting on beaches with high humidity and plenty of sand flying around). The buttons still work great. My only change to the first review is that on the beach under the bright sun the shade helps but it is still hard to review pictures. You'd better know how to use your camera =) April 2010 update: still works great.

Mine broke the day after I installed it on my 40D, just by opening it the right side spring popped out and this is not user-repairable.
Many other Delkin shades seem more durable but this one for the 40D does not seem to be made as well. I will be waiting to see if Hoodman produces a pop-shade for the 40D. The eye-piece and buttons are identical to Canon so no complaints there. All buttons worked.

I have one of these on my Canon Rebel 350D and it fits perfectly. The one designed for the 40D shifts constantly . The door is useless and really does not help you see anything better in strong light. Also you can get a nasty scratch or cut if you bump you face into the open door.
Remove the door and you have a good LCD protector. The 40D has a 3 inch LCD screen. Delkin failed to design this to grab the back of the 40D properly. It shifts so much that the buttons go out of alignment and do not function when you press them. It ends up being only a very expensive LCD protector but a nuisance otherwise.
