I bought this mp3 player about 3 years ago when the 2nd gen came out. I couldn't believe I could get a 20GB player for under $200 brand new. I've been using it constantly at work ever since. I even purchased the FM receiver for it through Dell when they still carried accessories for it.

The only issue I have with it now is that the battery life is severly short. I took the unit apart and took the old battery out. I'm just waiting for the replacement battery in the mail. For those of you who run into the same issue, the battery I purchased is a higher capacity Li-Ion polymer battery with a model number of CS-DJ20SL. You can google the model number and come up with a few sources to buy it from.

I felt the need to keep my DJ alive because I already loaded up my entire CD library on it. I didn't want to turn to the dark side either and get myself a shiny, low-capacity player for over $150 when I simply had to spend roughly $20 to replace the battery in my DJ.

I have had my Dell DJ for four years now and it still works. I loved it so much while I was using it because it was dependable and sturdy. Basically, it was everything you would want from an mp3 player if you don't mind the bulky design. However, it does come with a few cons that you NEED to know.

1) Battery life will slowly start to fail on you, especially if you drop it. It's not a huge deal unless you skip through your songs a lot. For some reason after skipping a few songs it will die, but that is only a recent thing that has happened and since it's four years old I guess some problems are to be expected.

2) The software might not work on your computer. It worked just fine up until it had an update and then it no longer worked. Fortunately, this is not a deal breaker because you can sync using Windows Media Player.

3) This product DOES NOT work on Windows Vista. This was rather disappointing for me because I was given a Vista laptop upon graduation and I could no longer use my mp3 player. The device will not be recognized at all. This was the driving force behind me getting a new mp3 player.

Those are the only cons I can think of. If you use Vista and don't want to change, then don't get this product. Other than that, I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I love it and probably would still use it, if it worked on Vista.

I would recommend this to anyone that doesn't want to spend a lot of money on an MP3 player. My Dell DJ has froze on me to date (had it for at least 4 years) about 3 times. There is a restart button (just like on PDA phones) that fixes the problem in a few seconds. It reboots and your back to listening to one of your 5,000 songs. The MP3 player is bulky compared to an IPOD but it is not as wide as a standard PDA phone but probably as thick. I have a sports carrying case and it works great for my workouts (running, cycling, and on the elliptical machines). I haven't had it skip and I have even dropped it a few times. Both sides of my head phones work and even when I play it in the car it works on both speakers. I know that some of the Dell DJs had this problem but I can assure you that not all of them were defective. Overall this is a great product for me (and possibly you too) and it is really cheap for the amount of storage it has (8GB Apple IPOD will run you around $200).
