This laptop is incredibly light and feels very well-constructed.

Cons: Glossy screen... I hate that intel put touchscreen in the ultrabook requirments...They are worthless to me.... I would much rather have a matte display.

Limited touch screen features also work without configuration--I can use my finger as a mouse on the screen.

I looked everywhere for a nice fast portable laptop, and I was set on buying a Macbook Air or Pro. However, I just never found this laptop. Quick rundown of what I think:

Pros:
Screen (FHD) looks great and the touch is a nice addon
Super Fast Bootup (2.1s for BIOS) and under 10 seconds
Very Nice Keyboard with good key travel
Great soft touch and the top and bottom casing is very professional (aluminum and carbon fiber)
Better than Average Battery Life (So far at least 7.5 hours on regular use like spotify, youtube, word, surfing reddit and FB)
Price (picked it up for 940+tax)
I like the battery life indicator on the side

Cons:
Windows 8 is pretty difficult
Screen is very glossy and can get overly reflective
Runs quite hot but I don't mind the fan
A very quiet coil whine with backlight on around backspace key but luckily I never have it on bc I know where the keys are...
Wish brightness levels could be better manually adjusted (at night I can't get it dim enough for my personal preference)
Decent amount of Dell software stuff; 128GB SDD had about 76.6GB after I deleted a few useless apps and the Office trial
No HDMI

Have had numerous compliments and many people wanting to test out these new "ultrabooks" and "Windows 8 touch". To be honest, I would never use the touch and it is currently disabled in device manager (luckily the touchpad is so ez). Not sure if its just my own incapabilities but switching from speaker to headphone and I forget to change to volume and deafened myself at like 80 volume instead of 20. I don't understand why HDMI was not used but let's be honest, I don't use that port no matter if its miniDisplay or what.

Although the Dell "developer" Sputnik version of the XPS with Ubuntu pre-installed is available, I chose this model instead due to the price difference (the Sputnik being several hundred dollars more). I played around with the pre-installed version of Windows 8.1 and although I enjoyed messing around with it, I didn't necessarily want to use it for daily work. After reading a few tutorials around the Internet, I wiped Windows off of it entirely, replacing it with Ubuntu 14.04. I'm thrilled to report that everything seems to work fine after a few reboots! Wi-fi, Bluetooth, two-finger scrolling, two finger right click [tap the right side of the touchpad] etc. all work perfectly and without having to do much in the way of configuration. Limited touch screen features also work without configuration--I can use my finger as a mouse on the screen. The only thing I have to complain about is the lack of ports, but I was well aware of that before I bought this laptop and just use a USB hub to provide USB ports for additional peripherals. Because Ubuntu is much lighter on resources than Windows, it is incredibly fast on this laptop's hardware. The laptop bottom will get hot after using it for some time, so I invested in a laptop cooling fan and everything seems to stay cool enough. Battery life is about 5.5 hours or so, which seems reasonable. No coil whine that I've noticed. All in all, I'm really happy with my new Dell Ubuntu 14.04 XPS! :)

I was previously an IT professional and tend to be very picky about laptops. This laptop is incredibly light and feels very well-constructed. It also has an amazing screen. The feel is very reminiscent of a Macbook Air. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Mac OS X, so it's great to see that there is a Windows-based competitor that feels similar in terms of quality (yes, I know you can install Windows on Macs, but I don't care for Mac keyboards either).

The keyboard is not quite as good as the Lenovo keyboards, mostly due to the absence of dedicated buttons for Home, End, PgUp, and PgDn (you have to use the Fn key in combination with the arrow keys for these functions), but otherwise feels very good. I'm very pleased with the quality of this product and the price is excellent.

It will take time to see how this laptop holds up for the long haul, but for now I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

I had to find a machine to write programs with at work, meaning I would spend at least 8 hours a day on the keyboard. I decided to go with an ultrabook since I did not need a lot of computing power and wanted the portability and battery life. After A LOT of thought and bought and returned ThinkPad T440s-- Lenovo and I are not speaking anymore--, this Dell xps was my choice. I wanted the i7, 25ggb ssd version of this, but the price difference on here could buy me a desktop... not worth the extra $500 IMO...

Pros:
Awesome keyboard-- really the decider for me. Most ultrabooks' keyboards do not have enought travel and feel too stiff. This is the only one that I like.
Perfect specs... Most of us do not need and i7 or a 256 gb ssd, but 8gb of ram is almost a requirement for my line of work.
Display looks great.
Love the looks and overall build quality of the case.
Works well with Linux-- Yeah, for you nerds out there, this makes a great linux box.

Cons:
Glossy screen... I hate that intel put touchscreen in the ultrabook requirments...They are worthless to me.... I would much rather have a matte display.
The synaptic driver in linux does not have a very good palm detection... This should be fixed soon though.

tl;dr : This has the best keyboard for an ultrabook. Buy one.
