Amazon Verified Purchase
I've had this for about a week now and really like it. I upgraded from an older Inspiron (1521) which was about the same size as this one.
The screen is nice and bright and the system seems fast for general use. I just upgraded the RAM today from the 4 gig that came with it to 8 gig. Wow what a difference! It boots very fast now and browsing is also almost instantaneous. You can get 8 gig of RAM from Crucial.com for less than $100. Totally worth it especially when you consider you can sell the 4 gig that came with the N5010 for about $40 on ebay. :) 8 gig is the max this laptop will do and it's easily enough.
The only minor complaints I have are the following:
1) The battery does not have any power lights on it to tell you how much power is remaining on the current charge. You have to actually boot the OS up to see how full you are.
2) As with most laptops now, the function keys double up on features. The only caveat here is that the F2 key - which is the one you hit if you need or want to enter the BIOS during boot up - also is the key that turns on/off the wireless card. So the first time I tried to enter the BIOS I was a little late and accidentally turned off the wireless card and it took me a while to figure out why I couldn't get online. But be aware that by default - the function keys operate the secondary features labeled on them and not the standard functions. For those you have to hold down the blue "FN" key next to the CTRL key.
3) Lastly, the plastic trim that surrounds the keyboard and that you lay your hands on while typing feels a little loose in a couple of spots. You only notice it when your are typing. But it's not a deal breaker.
I really like the slim ten-key. Very handy. The track pad is nice and big as are the left and right mouse buttons. The casing is the kind that is prone to finger prints which if you're like me will bug you - but I can say that it's not as bad as full glossy black.
One thing that really did annoy me is that Dell apparently now is not shipping back up discs for the OS. They claim that if you need to reinstall Windows 7 you can download the original image that was on your hard drive, from them. But what if you can't get online until the OS is installed? Stupid. Frankly this is the kind of crap that encourages pirating because people are going to feel like they bought the OS and are entitled to a disc and I agree.
All in all, for the price - I think it's a good laptop. And so far I'm pleased.

I have had to return this due to 2 keys beginning to stick and the looseness of the wrist rest to the right of the mouse pad. Ultimately maybe not well put together?

I have had this laptop since August of 2010. I have had NOTHING but PROBLEMS with this computer. My charger stopped working, they had to send me a new one. Then my hard drive went bad (no fault of my own), they had to replace it. My keyboard sticks and they replaced that. My charger went out again and Dell replaced it again. My keboard is still sticking after replacing my keyboard. All in all this is a horrible computer. You could get a much better computer for the same price. I would stay away from Dell.

I purchased this laptop for my grandmother about a month age. The item was shipped out promptly and in a nice and sturdy enclosure. This item arrived within 3 days of purchase!
First thing I did when I received the laptop was charge it for a good 5 hours, after which I finally turned it on. Went through the entire windows 7 setup stage which took about 30 minutes. I immediately noticed McAfee was installed, so I uninstalled this terrible program and installed another virus scanner/firewall and then restarted the system. Right away system performance increased. At this stage I installed Firefox, VLC, etc and restarted again. Took about 25+ seconds from black screen to full Windows functionality. This isn't an amazing speed, but it's decent especially for the price.
Besides McAfee there wasn't really much more bloatware pre-installed except for the typical Ebay icon which I just dragged into the Recycle Bin. Screen has good resolution and the speakers are splendid. I haven't had a chance to test the battery life/downloading etc since I only did the install for my grandmother and handed it to her. She only uses it for checking her mails but did tell me that this computer is extremely fast.
The network devices on this computer are ok. When connecting to my grandmother's wireless I can walk up to 50ft away before the connection becomes extremely unstable/unusable. Up to 32 feet it averages on full connection to one bar missing which is very reasonable. All in all I would definitely recommend this product if you just want to use it for basic tasks. Again I haven't ran any benchmarks but I did get a feeling that this computer would get drained pretty quickly if one were to constantly download and edit movies. But for this price I don't think you can expect much more, definitely the best stats I could find on any new laptop for under $600.
