4.0 out of 5 stars Works for me
I bought this system in July of 2006 for personal use. The doctor's office I lived over had wi-fi and he let us use it but my husband's laptop was the only computer we had, so when he was gone I was S.O.L. I have used it daily since then and when we moved to a house I set up my own wireless network. The only problem I had was I have had to replace the hard drive already...

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing but problems
I purchased this computer for my daughter for college - thinking it would be a good computer to last through her four years of college. In the three years we have had it, I've had to replace the screen because it was coming apart, the battery died (an almost $200 item to replace), and just last week the hard drive failed. Even though it is only out of warranty a month...

This review is from: Dell Inspiron E1505, Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 (2x1.73GHz), 15.4-in LCD, 1GB RAM, 120GB SATA HDD, 256MB ATI Video Card, 8X DVD+/-RW Drive, 802.11b/g WiFi, Network Card and Modem, Vista Home Premium (Electronics)
I bought this system in July of 2006 for personal use. The doctor's office I lived over had wi-fi and he let us use it but my husband's laptop was the only computer we had, so when he was gone I was S.O.L. I have used it daily since then and when we moved to a house I set up my own wireless network. The only problem I had was I have had to replace the hard drive already. It was not a virus, it just evaporated but I was still under warranty so Dell sent me a factory refurbished one and I spent a couple of hours on the phone with tech support setting it up (very friendly guy, walked me through step-by-step). I was admittedly not good at backing up my hard drive so I lost a lot of music and picture files. I am better about it since then. I am disappointed it does not come with Microsoft Office suite. It has Word, but for spreadsheets I have to use Microsoft Works, which is fine for my own files but I had to download an Excel reader to view files sent to me by others. I have not had any performance issues other than when I downloaded Dell Support Center 2.0, but after research I found other were having the same problems so I uninstalled and voila, no more issues! I love the media control buttons on the outside of the unit, nice for when I am using my laptop (closed) like a jukebox. The battery holds a great charge. It has 4 hi-speed USB ports, headphone and microphone jacks, S-video, LAN, phone and 15-pin printer connections. I invested in a nice bag for it and have used it at school, home, internet cafes, hotels and hockey arenas. This is a great stock unit for any person, especially beginners like me, it is very easily customized.

Even though it is only out of warranty a month and my daughter started having problems with it while it was still under warranty, Dell will not replace the hard drive. I will never buy another Dell product. I would advise anyone looking for a computer to not buy this product or any Dell product, for that matter. They have terrible customer service.
