This is actually the most dependable mouse I've ever used. I have a Dell XPS, and the Dell optical mouse has never given me any problems at all, neither in gaming nor in basic computer use. I just bought a higher-priced mouse from a prominent company to replace this one, expecting that it'd work better if anything, but that was not the case. I won't go into the other one's faults, but installing and uninstalling drivers did nothing to remedy the problems I was having with it. I'm actually planning on buying a new cheapy to replace the "good" one. It's a shame I didn't just keep my old one.
Yes, it's cheap and simple, and yes, I've heard that it disconnects for other people, but I'm pretty sure that's a computer hardware issue rather than a mouse issue. Either way though, I'd say it's probably safer to take Adrian Cooper's advice here if you are unsure. There indeed is usually a correlation between price and quality (unless you're just buying a name), and I don't want to recommend something if it is just going to disconnect for you. But I do personally prefer it.

Works as advertized. I have a Dell system. I replaced the old mechanical ball mouse that comes with the system with this optical mouse. Just plug it in and it works.

This was my first bad experience with Amazon and I have been ordering for about a year. I got the dell mouse and it was dirty nasty and used. When I made the purchase it was supposed to be new and never used.

This replaces my old mouse and works just perfectly. I'm a MAC fan but this Dell mouse is great for my smaller hand.

This mouse is basically the office standard (at least in my areas) and I use it every day at work and at home.

I have had mine for at least 4 years and am now only finding minor clicking errors which sometimes happen. The design is a simple, ambidextrous form that should be at least acceptable to nearly any user.

In comparison to the mighty mouse, another product I have worked with frequently, this mouse is far superior boasting a whole 3 buttons (shocking), long cord, good shape, and a seemingly flawless driver working with everything I've ever tried this with.

Two more things to say-First taking the mouse apart is tricky and if you try this do not force it. Only one screw holds it together. Second thing, a helpful program is x-mouse if you are unfamiliar it is a program which allows you to assign any mouse button to whatever key or command you want (even custom macros). This is just a suggestion for making use of the middle click.

Negatives: notihng other than very minor oppinionated gripes

This mouse is the very definition of "run of the mill." There is nothing spectacular about it (negative or positive). I've had mine at work for a little over 2 years now, and it gets me through the day (of about 8 hours of use). Do I wish it was my Logitech mouse at home, yes of course. Do I want to bring an expensive mouse into work to share w/ other morons who mistreat their equipment? No way. But the main points:

Pros: has lasted a very long time and is rather reliable. It's accurate, and hefty size makes it comfortable to grip.

Cons: the scroll wheel is smooth, and has, after a great deal of use and time, had the essential effect of a balding tire. You go to scroll with it and your finger just glides along it instead of actually scrolling. While not entirely back breaking, it has become a nuisance, hence the 2 stars. However, that is essentially my only gripe with the product.

This is one of the better mice sold for mass market. I wore the earlier one out killing commies (et. al.)

You can't go wrong with this mouse.

Item is a replacement for the same one that came with original computer some years ago...Pleased with the purchase from this vender.

I purchased this product in an emergency; my other Dell mouse, the one that came with my computer, broke and I needed another one. It sure came quickly! And it is a very good mouse! Those people who have Dell computers, if you need replacement mice, a used one is just as good as a brand new one and work just as well.
