A real ink guzzler? or just puny cartridges?,
By KathyC (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dell P703w Wireless All-in-One Photo Printer (Office Product)
We got these printers in our office with the new laptops....we have shared laser printers so our IT didn't want us using less economical ink jets, but I thought what the hey, I'll pay for my own ink to have it at my desk.
...BAD idea!! I blew through the first set of cartridges in just three weeks...and maybe 100-150 pages! NOT PHOTOS, regular pages! (well, maybe THREE photos in the mix!) I thought perhaps the cartridges that came with the machines were "samples"....ie, not full capcity, but it says right on the cartidge "standard yield"!! So I fished another set of cartridges out of one of the other printer boxes...same thing! The thing is, the PRINTER, aka "Hal", tells you when you are out of ink...Thank you Hal!Copy quality was just fine in both cases, but it wouldn't allow any further printing until I put new cartridges. And get this...I can't just keep it to use the scanner!!! Without with out cartridges it deems as "ok", "Hal" won't even let me do THAT! --PLEEEEASE Open the pod bay doors, HAL. --I'm sorry, Kathy. I'm afraid I can't do that. ... It kills me to send this to the landfill...and shame on Dell for making it fit for nothing else!

Not a good buy,
This review is from: Dell P703w Wireless All-in-One Photo Printer (Office Product)
Got this printer almost two years ago. Easy to set up. Nice features, compact and quiet.
It's after using it for awhile that I've come to be exceptionally disappointed. -- Ink has always run out fast. After keeping closer tabs I realized I'm barely getting a 1/2 ream of paper printed before I have to replace the black cartridge. Opened the printer up and can see a pool of ink collecting inside the printer! (Note: I'm using Dell cartridges.) -- Wifi connectivity works terribly. Have to usually walk to the printer, unplug, replug in to get it to show up on the network. -- Now, black ink has stopped printing almost entirely even with new Dell cartridges. All Dell recommended steps to clean have done nothing to fix it. Don't purchase this printer.

worst printer i have ever owned,
This review is from: Dell P703w Wireless All-in-One Photo Printer (Office Product)
This printer is a piece of trash. It used way too much ink and it never consistently worked with my netgear network. Good luck trying to get tech support. Finally, it didn't take long for the print quality to dramatically deteriorate---I guess because of the print heads. It doesn't matter because I'm throwing this junk out and will never buy a Dell printer again. I have had much greater success with HP and Epson.

Worst printer I have ever owned.,

I have never had a printer that needed so much constant attention to make sure that it actually works. It is like babysitting computer peripherals because there is ALWAYS something wrong with it. I'm replacing this piece of junk IMMEDIATELY. What a waste of money.

Surprise! You're out of ink! and now you can't print,

I can't believe that here in the 21st century a piece of junk like this is on the market. As noted by others, you go thru ink pretty quickly. The big problem, though, is that when the machine thinks you're out of ink it stops working. As far as I can tell, you can't overide this. If you have an important presentation to get out, you can't pring it until you put in a new cartridge. There is no warning. All of a sudden it says you're out of ink and you're stuck in your tracks. Making matterws worse, the Dell cartridges are not carried by many stores. In fact hardly by any stores. If you call Dell service to find out where they are sold, they are of no use. I learned all the above the hard way. I now try to keep an inventory of cartridges avaialable but like everyone, I'm busy, and I'm afraid some day I will not have noticed that i've gone thru my inventory and once again I'll get stuck not being able to print. I stongly advise against this machine. I only bought it because it was bundled with my dell computer.
Also, I've never been able to connect it wirelessly. I imagine maybe I could if I took more time but when i tried to connect it, I ran into problems and I've been leery to put the time in to see if they are solveable.

If I could rate it lower I would!,

This printer, if you can call it that, is the epitome of "planned obsolescence". It is hardwired to shut off the ability to print ANYTHING OR scan ANYTHING the moment IT detects that a print cartridge is too low. I happen to know the cartridge is not low, as I printed NO more sheets (it wouldn't let me) after the color cartridge was said to be too low. Well, low and behold (pun intended), the BLACK cartridge registered as out of ink 2 weeks later after NO use. I don't use a printer that much and can only assume that Dell hopes to make a lot of money reselling the "recycled" cartridges which are still nearly full. It must be a timed system that automatically reports the printer as low on ink after a certain amount of time. Removing and reinserting the cartridge...or an old one...did not work. One person at Dell support told me that the printer would work without the color cartridge but when I was transferred to tech support I was told simply that I had to buy a new color cartridge...that the printer wouldn't work until I did. I told them I don't plan to buy any more cartridges or any more Dell products for that matter. Too bad. A little greed and shoddy company policy goes a long way. I just hope others will see this and be forewarned.

TERRIBLE!,

I agree with what the other reviews said about the printer. It guzzles ink like crazy and after being only a few months old, it wouldn't print. The printed items come out faded or not at all. The colors are off. It's terrible. I bought new cartridge after new cartridge, wasting 100's of dollars. Stay far away from this thing.

it looks fancy, you will think it is a great deal beacause of the quality of the printing then ......the printhead will stop working.
nothing can be done to fix it,good luck with dell representatives.if you are lucky and you are still covered by the warrenty they may do something. for me it stopped working 3 days after the warranty expired and they were clear about it they asked me to purchase a new one.

Horrible printer...worse customer service,
By Shady Lady "Billie" (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews

I bought this printer in Jan. 2009. The first one wouldn't print it kept saying there was no black ink even though I would put in a new cartrige; I spent well over 3 or 4 hours with Dell tech support and some guy in India who I could barely understand. After numerous calls and time, they agreed to send me a new printer. The printer did work well for a while but for less than a year and now it is pretty worthless when it comes to printing pictures which is the entire reason I bought it. It still prints black and white fine, but the colors are all faded and are distorted, giving the pictures a red/pink look. It also has wierd white lines running through it. I use only Dell cartriges and high quality photo paper, clean it often and calibrate it and it still will not work. The scanner also has quit working, although I haven't tried to re-intalled the printer on my computer after my hardrive crashed. My computer which was a DELL as well and bought at the same time. I will NEVER EVER buy anything made by DELL again. I am not even considering contacting their customer support...it isn't worth my time, I just have to take the lesson and learn from it.

This printer is a waste of money. It eats up ink, the cartridges are expensive and it did not last. Replacement parts are more expensive than a new printer.
