5.0 out of 5 stars Great and serves purpose well.
This printer is fantastic and serves its purpose well. It does everything I need with ease. It prints with ease compared to other home printers. It also copies, scans, faxes, and produces photo's. The photo quality is superb for it to be a low cost printer. If the ink is low they photo's may seem a little off but nevertheless, they are almost lab quality prints. I could...

1.0 out of 5 stars Great...as long as you never need more ink, November 16, 2005
This review is from: Dell Photo All-in-one Printer 922
I've been a Dell customer for a long time, but I think they've become too big or diversified to offer the service they used to have...I got a Dell 922 this summer and was pleased with the speed and quality. Everything was fine -- until I needed ink cartridges.

Before the cartridges ran out, I went online through the convenient direct connection from the printer's toolbox. You can't buy the cartridges at any of the office supply places; you have to buy through Dell. I ordered the cartridges and they came within a couple of days. "This is great!" I thought.

Some time later, I needed to replace the black cartridge. When I got it in the printer and turned the printer back on, the cartridge didn't work. Upon inspection, I realized Dell had sent me cartridges for the 920 rather than the 922. So I called the toll-free number and quickly became lost in the system. So I hung up and called another Dell number; this time, I managed to find a live person. He took my information and then told me I needed to talk with someone in customer service. He then transferred me -- back to the very automated system in which I had become lost earlier!

So I hung up again, went on line and chose the "live chat option" on the Dell web site. After filling in all the required data, a screen popped up that told me I was No. 5 in line and the "approximate wait time" would be 7 1/2 minutes...I've now emailed them, but don't expect a response any time soon.

As I mentioned, the 922 does a good job, especially for the price. Maybe you'll have better luck with the cartridge replacement. I'm not betting on it, however.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dude, your getting a Dud., December 19, 2007
This review is from: Dell Photo All-in-one Printer 922
When I began college in 2005, this was it. This was the printer that everyone got along with the laptop that everyone got. And one by one, all of my friends began to announce the failure of their Dell Photo All-in-One Printers. Most of the complaints I heard were that it plain "stopped working," whatever that meant. But I on the other hand did not seem to share those problems. When I wanted to print 50 page papers, it printed them quickly. When I wanted a high-quality photo, I got it. I was happy.

But recently, and suddenly, the quality of my little beloved printer took a nosedive. Sometimes it refuses to print, sometimes it denies being attached to my laptop, and sometimes it takes hour-long pauses between pages.

Another big problem has to do with cartridges. When I ordered directly from Dell everything worked fine. However I recently wanted to save money and got my cartridges filled at Walgreens. Big mistake. The printer will not recognize that they are full, yells at me every time I print something and tells me that my ink is below the minimum level.

Bottom line: I'm frustrated. But the printer served me well for over 2 years. I wouldn't buy it again, but I don't regret buying it in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars if your printer stops working, December 8, 2009
This review is from: Dell Photo All-in-one Printer 922
Try this: open up the top, behind the ink cartridges you will see a clear strip that looks like tape. Dust if off. Dust off the rest of the printer while you are at it. I did this and it worked like a charm for another 2 years and is still working fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Machine, January 19, 2009
This review is from: Dell Photo All-in-one Printer 922
This is user friendly, makes fast and perfect prints.
When my original one broke (after years of use)I only wanted this as a replacement and was lucky enough to find one on amazon.
I would recommend this for every project you would want to do such as scanning, faxing, making greeting cards and beautiful pictures.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Printer. Has printing and ink problems, October 8, 2008

The Dell 922 all-in-one printer prints a beautiful color picture when you use the high-quality print settings. The pictures it prints with its normal inks are photo-quality. At normal quality and lower, you can see the dots in the print color, which really jars me when I make up posters.

Printing in black and white is fine if what is printed is only black and white. If there are graphics in color that you are printing in black and white, there will be dots visible. I recommend printing color in color, and black and white in black and white for sharpest printing.

The feed has problems in that it will grab more than one page at a time. I've had that happen with only two sheets in the carriage. It seems that having about 5 or more pages in the carriage helps prevent it from grabbing two or more sheets. Sometimes it comes out alright, but sometimes it will shift the paper and part of the print will come out on the next page.

The guide for the page needs to be set as close to the paper as possible to prevent jamming and double-feed. When one sheet is feeding through, I pull up on the rest of the paper in the carriage and let it down again where the paper rests. It seems to prevent double-feeding.

I find myself a slave to this printer: I can't set it and walk away from it. I have to make sure that pages feed through properly.

The standard color ink and black ink do well for all printing. It makes photo-quality prints. I had a special photo ink cartridge, but when I put it in, the printer wouldn't work; it said the ink was running low. I never could get it to work.

To get the quality of print I wanted, I had to select high-quality printing. This runs up the cost of ink use.

Dell ink is not available at the store. It must be ordered online. I don't like being forced to buy something online. I like to be able to deal with companies in person.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked for 2 1/2 years, April 22, 2008

I purchased this printer with a new Dell desktop back in 2005. It was nice to have an all-in-one printer, and I had previously owned an HP all-in-one that ended up dying on me. Anyways, this printer did a good job for 2 1/2 years, then it started having problems feeding paper. There is a wheel on the right side that feeds the paper through, but it quit working. Now, I have to hand feed the paper in, so this is really frustrating when trying to print more than one page. I haven't taken it apart to see if I can fix it, I'm just going to upgrade. After reading some of the other reviews, it seems that this paper feeding issue is a problem with this printer in general.

Also, ink seemed to run out rather quickly, and it was a pain to have to order it through the Dell website. Now, you can buy Dell ink at Staples, which is nice. Ink seemed to only last me about 5-6 weeks, and I didn't think I used it that much. Other than the paper feeding problem and the ink, it did a good job while I had it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good until it dies..., November 8, 2006
This review is from: Dell Photo All-in-one Printer 922
Another loyal Dell customer for many years, I got this printer free with my latest PC. It worked for about a year, then the paper started feeding incorrectly. Seems the one roller that feeds the paper has a tendency to just wear out. Ink is pricy - after printing snazzy dvd covers, went through a whole cartridge, and since you can only buy online, you tend to buy in bulk. So now I have a dead printer with a lot of extra cartridges.

When it worked it was a fast printer. Color was slow, pictures OK not fab. Ease of set up and use with scanning and copying along with set up ease is good. It is an inexpensive, functional printer. It just doesn't last long.

-------
Addendum: Ah, need to update this. Actually fixed the feeding problem. When I took the thing apart, I noticed that a felt ring dropped into the paper feeder area and was botching up the feeding. Removed that, and I'm back in business again.

If you are not a heavy printing person, then this is a functional printer. The photo prints are good, especially with the right paper stock and ink. I've created a bunch of DVD covers, labels with no problems. The scanner is functional, and good for fast stuff. The software works with Acrobat products without fail.

There are some times when the ink is release wet, so you have to wait for the photo to dry first.

So, after a year, I still have the printer.
