For the price, this is a fine career overview, February 25, 2005

Here we have Del Shannon recordings which include the stereo version of RUNAWAY to his last top forty hit SEA OF LOVE released 17 years after his 1965 hit STRANGER IN TOWN. Except for a cover of Roy Orbison's CRYIN' this cd consists mostly of his early 60s releases including his cover of The Beatles FROM ME TO YOU and his own version of the Peter and Gordon hit I GO TO PIECES which Shannon wrote. Two tracks are produced by Tom Petty from 1981 (SEA OF LOVE & DROP DOWN AND GET ME) and two songs from his last recording sessions are produced by Jeff Lynne and Mike Campbell (the glorious WALK AWAY & WHO LEFT WHO). Closing out the album is AND THE MUSIC PLAYS ON from 1974 produced by Dave Edmunds. For the price, this is a fine overview of Del Shannon's music from his 60s hits to recordings almost 30 years later.
