This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen LCD High Performance Monitor with HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort and HDCP (Electronics)
We have more than a dozen of these monitors at work and I have two on my desk and one at home. The monitors arrive with an enclosed calibration sheet. Apparently they are factory calibrated now. Because I work on media I needed a color accurate monitor that could also double as a day to day working display for coding, presentations and documents. Out of the box these monitors required less calibration work than any LCD monitor or TV that I've used in the past five years. I saw none of the pink or green tinge referred to in other reviews. Nor was there any noticeable graduation of color tint from one side to another. In fact side by side the monitors appear perfectly matched and even.

The color from these monitors is very neutral, which is to say quite accurate. While they are not 'reference' quality they don't fall far short of the mark. For the price they are a good deal. You should be aware that IPS is known for accuracy and range of colors. The display is not LED backlit, because LED's do not allow the full range of colors you get from older monitors. This was a deliberate choice and the correct one. If you want to go green and simply don't care about color accuracy or vertical viewing angle, get something like the Dell G2410H.

Watching bluray disks on this monitor is also a very satisfying experience - be warned that the color neutrality does not make this display as flashy as a TV or TN monitor, but what you get in return is accuracy. At home I do some moderate gaming so I watch out for latency, especially the whole-screen refresh which is always much worse than the stated response times. This is a 6mS display and I've seen it switch whole screen refresh in about 20-25mS. While this may not seem good, it is in fact considerably better than average. Anytime you see a claim of 2mS switching time, be aware it is like saying an amplifier produces 200W of "music power" where in fact it manages maybe 25W RMS at best. So gaming is very satisfactory although not a reason to buy this class of monitor.

In terms of performance, the processor behind these displays seems faster than almost anything else I've seen. The OSD is easy to use and better thought out than my 2408WFP displays. I like that the OSD puts the function graphics right next to the corresponding buttons (so for example you get a tic mark against the button used to accept a setting).

The connections for the monitor include 2 DVI, 1 display port and an hdmi port. As usual the hdmi input stops edid/hdcp support when you switch away to another DVI input. This is annoying for various reasons, but most people won't care.

I particularly loathe TN displays due to their poor color accuracy and ridiculous vertical viewing angles. So 100% of my monitors at home and work are either PVA or IPS types. I have eight at home, including HP and Samsung. I still think that Dell peaked with the 2408 but this IPS display is a worthy successor and for the price point a good deal. I would assume if you are looking here it's because you want an exceptional monitor rather than the high street vanilla variety. If so, you should be very happy with this monitor. It is not far short of perfect.

Dell has fallen from grace in recent years, in no small part due to a deteriorating web site and fierce competition. Dell's website is undermined by lack of consistency, poor navigation, stupid base configurations and a pricing structure that is undermined when you find you can buy a pre-configured machine through a retail outlet at a cheaper price than you can build the equivalent machine online. Their product lines are also poorly differentiated from their competitor's machines. But their monitors are second to none. Almost a good enough reason to buy a Dell system.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Green to Pink Tint... had potential to be best ever, March 22, 2010
This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen LCD High Performance Monitor with HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort and HDCP (Electronics)
I had three of these and there are many that have had more. These monitors have a horrible tinting problem where the monitor is Green on one side and Pink on the other. Dell claims that it's within normal limits and actually a "feature" which is the craziest thing I've ever heard. Yes, other monitors use the same panel but they allow for multiple point calibration on the panel to counter it, but Dell only allows for calibration for the entire panel as a whole... THIS IS NOT something you can make better with software or monitor settings, believe me!

So the Green to pink tint makes this monitor useless for any serious photoshop, photography, or advertising work as your color will ALWAYS differ from one side of the monitor to the other. You can't get your greys right to save your life! Google it yourself before buying this monitor and save yourself the frustration. Also, Dell is no longer allowing users to return the monitor until they get one that DOES NOT have the green to pink tint nor will they let you get a refund for one that has a green to pink tint. Careful with your words when you return one if you're not happy!

1.0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to love this monitor, January 25, 2010
By
Tolmark (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
The picture on this monitor is beautiful, which would be great if it didn't come with a host of problems. Namely horizontal banding and mine came with a areas that had a pink tint with other areas with a green tint.

I'm on my THIRD replacement monitor from Dell. I finally asked for my money back, and they won't give it back because the thirty days replacement period has passed! I assumed an issue like this would be covered in the three year warranty... no.

Extremely disappointed.

I've spent close to 4 hours on the phone w/ tech support (timed via Skype).

Run. Run now. Do not buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Monitor, April 19, 2010
This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen LCD High Performance Monitor with HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort and HDCP (Electronics)
Dell UltraSharp U2410 LCD Review

Outstanding Monitor

After doing lots of research on various monitors I decided to buy this one. I'm a graphic designer so I needed a somewhat low cost, high quality monitor.

I wasn't disappointed, as this is probably the best monitor I've ever owned, even better than my old 23" Apple Cinema HD Display. It uses the same IPS technology as Apple and other high-quality designer-oriented monitors, making it great for color-accurate graphic design and video work. The only downside of this is that IPS costs more than the TN panels found in most consumer LCDs. In my opinion it's worth it, though.

The U2410 has tons of features that other monitors in the same price range don't have, like an IPS panel, 96% Adobe gamut, three-way pivot, PIP, USB hub, etc. In terms of features (with the optional sound bar) the only thing close is the Foris FX which costs twice as much (yikes).

In terms of size, the U2410 is perfect. I think 24 inches is about as big as you can go for a desktop monitor without it being overwhelming or causing eye strain, though 22 and 23 inches is good too. I wouldn't go below 20 inches.

The U2410 takes a fair amount of calibration to get the picture looking accurate, but you only have to do that once. Out of the box the picture is way too bright and slightly miscolored but it's easy enough to fix. The lowest brightness setting is still pretty bright, which seems odd to me but doesn't bother me; the highest brightness setting is laughably intense and actually hurts your eyes. But if you turn up saturation, sharpness, noise reduction, overdrive (for less lag), and dynamic contrast, video games (like Xbox 360 over VGA) look jaw-dropping. Not the best setting for daily office work or accurate skin tones but you can really get super rich colors and video games in 1080p almost look like glass.

Most impressive to me, color-wise, are the reds. They are super bright without any artifacts or blowout typical of oversaturation on other monitors. When I first saw the picture I thought to myself "now I know what REAL red looks like" like someone seeing the color red for the first time. The other colors look great too but I just had to mention how that jumped out at me.

I know this sounds like an advertisement but after using this monitor there's no way I would recommend any other. Even if you don't get this one, you owe it to yourself to at least spend the extra money on an IPS type monitor, especially if you do design work.

Hope this helps!

Pros:
- 1920x1200 resolution (16:10 widescreen)
- Optional surround sound bar (great sound with SRS, Bass and Treble boost buttons, and two headphone ports)
- Amazing color reproduction (96% Adobe RGB, 110% NTSC, 1.07B colors) and viewing angles
- Dynamic Contrast feature along with manual saturation adjustment causes movies and video games to look stunning
- OSD touch controls are wonderful and can even be used in total darkness
- Three-way pivot adjustment
- Appealing minimalist design, low power usage, lightweight
- Picture-In-Picture
- Anti-glare screen coating for low glare even sitting in front of a bright window
- Built-in 4x USB HUB, and media card reader (SD/MS/MMC)
- Tons of inputs (DisplayPort, HDMI, Composite, Component, DVI, VGA)
- Dell provides discount for Small & Medium Business
- This monitor is often on sale on Dell's website for $100 off, and free shipping
- Dell offers 5-year Premium Panel Guarantee where they will replace the monitor if there are any defects, including any dead pixels

Cons:
- Requires calibration out of the box
- Minimum brightness setting is too high
- No way to change input source with single button press
- Speaker bar requires its own AC adapter
- Speaker bar cannot use iPod headphones (the kind with a built-in remote)
- Barely perceptive flicker when using on same outlet as air conditioner; I moved to a different outlet and it seemed to fix the problem

Update August 12 2011:
Still using (and loving) this monitor. I did notice a few problems over time, though.
First, that one of the headphone ports on the speaker bar doesn't work, and the memory card reader stopped reading SD cards. Second, certain situations can cause the display to flicker slightly. This is very rare but seems to happen if you fill up the screen with a pattern composed of alternating black and white pixels in a 2x2 checkerboard (like the background on the old Mac Plus startup screen). I'm not sure if it's just my unit or if they're all like this. Third, like another reviewer mentioned, it takes at least 4 button presses to change the input, which can get annoying. And certain input combinations don't work with PIP (like DVI and DVI). Just throwing out that info; would still rate this monitor as 5/5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor - price to performance, December 25, 2009
By
Robb (dacula, ga) - See all my reviews
Just got five of these monitors last week. You will need to calibrate if you plan to use it for graphics work - which is what I (we) do. There are other monitors that I think are "better" than the U2410, but will cost more. My teammates and I don't see the issues pointed out by the reviewer JT - maybe our eyes are too old to see the problems. I think this is a great bang for the buck IPS monitor. Viewsonic makes a 23" IPS monitor that costs less, but we haven't found many reviews about it. As a business we decided that the slight gains of a pricier monitor over this monitor simply wasn't worth it. So far we're very happy with the performance of the U2410.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful looking green and pink tint on monitor, August 5, 2010
By

This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen LCD High Performance Monitor with HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort and HDCP (Electronics)
I just got my Dell U2410 monitor today (8/5/10). I have been reading a lot of reviews on this monitor and was hopeful that the new revision (Rev A02 was labeled outside of the box and the label says it was assembled in Mexico) would correct the tinting problem that many people have been complaining about . My colleague ordered the same monitor a few months ago and he didn't have any problems with the tinting issue. This gave me the assurance that the tinting problem was no longer an issue.

Unfortunately, after laboring to hook up my monitor and turning on my monitor for the first time, I saw the problem that everyone was talking about. On the left bottom corner of my monitor was this awful looking green tint that noticeably darkens my list of favorite bookmarks in Internet Explorer and it permeates to about one third of the screen towards the middle. On the right side of the monitor there was this pinkish tint that was evenly distributed along the right edge of the screen. You can clearly see this by opening the Google startup page which has a plain white screen.

I'm very disappointed that Dell has not fixed this issue. Perhaps they do not think that this is an issue. I'm returning the monitor first thing tomorrow morning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Affordable Photoshop heaven; otherwise consider the brand-new Dell 2412m, July 28, 2011
By
The Irish Patient (Western Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen LCD High Performance Monitor with HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort and HDCP (Electronics)
I have owned my Dell 2410 since mid-March 2011. It was purchased directly from Dell. I didn't find any of the reviews here to be particularly useful to me pre-purchase, and my opinion on that hasn't changed post-purchase.

Let's face it, you can buy good 27 inch monitors for as little as two hundred. You buy this one instead if you want to have an IPS panel that can reproduce 30 bit color; to have a backlight that covers nearly 100% of the Adobe RGB color space; to have an internal look up table ["LUT"] with 36 bit precision; and to have the monitor arrive with its LUT precalibrated at the factory using thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of professional calibration equipment.

In short, this is easily the best monitor for careful Photoshop work until you step up to the Dell 2711 for more than twice the money. While it would be hard to justify the initial expense solely for text, it is also head and shoulders above the pack for that mundane purpose as well. I so wish I had one of these at the office, where I typically read or write text for hours.

Again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with getting a good (and bigger) TN panel for two hundred, particularly if your passion is first person shooter games. TN panels are generally credited with having less blur on fast motion than IPS panels. However, viewing angles are very restricted on TN panels, especially in the vertical plane. That gets to be a real problem with TN panels in the 24-27 inch class. There just isn't anyplace you can park your head where the entire panel is going to be spot on.

People who want better viewing angles than TN can achieve without getting into the price range of this Dell 2410 should investigate the brand-new Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24-in Widescreen IPS High Performance Monitor (1920 x 1200) with DVI-D With HDCP DisplayPort VGA. You lose Deep Color, the wide gamut backlight, and factory calibration, but hold on to a 1920 x 1200 IPS panel. [By the way, having 1200 pixels vertically versus 1080 is a significant improvement.] Actual selling price for the 2412m should be around three hundred once it starts going on sale. Of course, I haven't seen a 2412m yet, so use your own judgment.

3.0 out of 5 stars DELL U2410 - Not for editors., July 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen LCD High Performance Monitor with HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort and HDCP (Electronics)
Being the best 24" IPS monitor out there for the money, I too purchased this monitor in hopes of getting a good one. Too bad that didn't happen. My first issue was with the color profile not working with Photoshop, but a quick Google search fixed that (search betav3 ICC if you need the fix). The second issue was with the color. Just as some of the other reviews here on Amazon state, looking at a solid white screen, say, Google's home page for example, there is obvious green tinting on the left side fading into the middle, and pink tinting on the right fading into the middle. The pinkest part is actually located more towards the bottom right portion. Closer inspection on a medium gray background, say, Photoshop for example, reveals two dark vertical bands, with 3 darker intersecting spots. Now, these aren't crazy dark, but very obvious for anyone that is going to do any sort of photo editing.

Let me say that this montor is so nice in every other way that I considered living with the issues, it's that nice. However, I have decided to exchange the monitor in hopes of getting one with either no issues, or these to a lesser degree, and will update this when it arrives (if I can).

If you're a person just looking at a screen, this monitor is awesome! However, if you do any sort of editing and need colors to be correct, buy with caution, and be ready to exchange or return it.

5.0 out of 5 stars REV 02 and up are Superb!, March 2, 2011
This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen LCD High Performance Monitor with HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort and HDCP (Electronics)
1. I am not a professional
2. I use my U2410 for regular office work, gaming and video
3. I LOVE IT!

After using a 1920X1080 for 6 month, moving to this 1920X1200 is a big difference.

I also own a Dell U2711 - and to my needs, it's just an eye-killer. It makes my eyes sore (it's such high-res), and i have slowly stopped using it.

I find this format and size to be the BEST you can get.

The overall quality of this monitor is astonishing.

Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be more happy with this monitor!, April 24, 2010
By
insoc (Miami, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen LCD High Performance Monitor with HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort and HDCP (Electronics)
I spent almost an entire week reading reviews and multiple forums deciding which would be my next monitor as I formerly had a 2007WFP monitor. All the professional reviews highly praised this monitor but I read here and in some forums some bad reviews and experiences with this monitor. Being quite happy with my 2007WFP and knowing DELL warranty I decided to buy this monitor knowing that actually it is the best 24" monitor right now in the market and if any problem came then I would use the warranty. I also read some stories about DELL delays in shipping but read this: I ordered this monitor last Saturday, pay for 2-day-shipping and wait. On Sunday I received and email telling me the monitor had shipped and on Wednesday morning the monitor arrived to my home! The matte coating is almost unnoticeable and not as present as with the 2007WFP. I use my monitor for basic use (MS Office and Internet) but also for PS3, PC gaming and watching movies. The movies come alive with this monitor rivaling my Sony XBR4 46" display, colors are sharp, accurate and soft. It such a visual experience. Playing ModernWarfare2 in this beauty is a whole new experience and I experienced no lag at all, is as fast as my former TN monitor and way faster than the 2007WFP. Overall a superb monitor and even a big improvement over the mighty 2007WFP. I couldn't be more happy.
