I think the reviews for this laptop are skewed because only people with bad experiences were vocal. I bought this laptop (the 1520) for $700 with a dedicated 512 Mb video card, and it is an excellent inexpensive machine. It has been with me on the airplanes and cars, traveled around the world twice, plugged in and on the battery, in the bag and without the bag, just shoved under the seat in front of me - it just works. It is not a magnesium body, lit keyboard travel workstation but it also costs 1/3 of such. I can afford to replace it in a couple of years - laptops are becoming more of a consumable or maintenance item if you use computers for work, so buying the cutting edge makes less and less sense. I have been buying the Vostro line for several years now and have been very pleased with them.

I got this laptop for a graduation gift. This was last year. Ever since I've had it, I've had to replace the hard drive at least six times, it overheats in 10 minutes, the battery was shot in six months, and it currently has many issues. Now, it won't even boot up past the Dell logo screen. I am only here to tell you all who are thinking about buying this, you can get a better laptop at Wal-Mart for $198, and Dell is telling me about "Fee Based" Assistance.

So far so good with this laptop. Nice wide screen and runs like a champ. My only complaint so far is the location of the delete key at the top right.
