Recieved Unit and plugged in to charge Battery. Battery indicater was flashing red and would not charge. I reinstalled battery and made sure battery compartment latches were secure and locked. This seemed to fix it. Unit now charges and no additional issues have been found.
Hope this helps those people having problems.
Great Computer for the price. Glad that the unit did not come with alot of software demos (including anti-virus)that must be removed. The only complaint was about the Dell back-up program that needed to be paid for to access useful features.
Overall a great computer for the average user.

If you took it on an airplane, you would have to buy it its own seat.

Just like the other customer, I too received a defective computer that did not allow the battery to charge. After calling Dell and diagnosing the problem, the technician surmised that the issue was not with the battery but with the charging mechanism. I decided to immediately return the laptop to Amazon. I do not wish to have a brand new computer repaired, nor do I wish to have it replaced with a refurbished one. I think I'll go with HP next time.

After receiving my DELL Laptop, I found that the battery would not charge. I found this to be a slight inconvenience until I called DELL Technical Support and they told me that they would have to either (A) replace the motherboard, battery, and A/C adapter. OR (B) Replace the entire system altogether. I chose option (B). It took over an hour on the phone with Tech Support before they gave me the two options. Then, I have to wait another 5-7 business days for the new system. This will be followed by having to completely re-install my programs that I will need for my college classes, as well as all of my personal games, and the programs my daughter uses for her high school classes and her music career. I do not hold Amazon personally responsible. It was by pure happenstance that Amazon is where I found this particular computer.

Dell rebate = smoke & mirrors - never again; Amazon great.

Large 17" screen has great clarity. Had to download hours worth of operating system updates. Intentionally purchased w Windows7 vs 8, so eligible for $15 Dell / Windows8 rebate after purchase of $15. Never found rebate page which was supposed to be preloaded or online and after 5 hrs of phone time with Dell settled for very limited $25 credit. Phone experience very time consuming, EXTREMELY frustrating and Dell reps, while trying to be helpful, failed in successive steps to resolve. After multiple Dell computers, this experience has turned me off from future business with them. Suggest to Others they consider alternate brands.

This laptop is fantastic. It's fast, huge, and heavy, but you know that going into it when you buy a 17" laptop. Unfortunately, it shipped with a dead battery. Dell has been unable to handle this relatively simple support request. They cannot seem to ship me a replacement battery. They switched my order to a 9-cell because the 6-cells were discontinued, but still haven't shipped a 9-cell. I've been told 3-4 business days three different times. I was promised call backs that they claim they made, but they didn't. At this point, I have no faith that they'll ever ship me a replacement battery. I may end up ordering one from Amazon just to have a functional laptop. I'm extremely disappointed.

The laptop was in perfect condition and works perfectly. I rate it with 5 stars. I only have one observation... and since i acquire this product from another country, i have to pay extra for the shipping service, and the service i used charges you for the weight in pounds of whatever you are purchasing... so amazon took the laptop in its original box and place it on another one a lot bigger and that increased the cost of the shipping service. Im guessing its a way of making sure your package gets safe and sound... but i think it could've been in a box a little smaller... other than that... its perfect! no complaints! Thanks very much!

The computer came with the wrong battery, presumably a manufacturing error, and was therefore inoperable despite efforts by a superbly qualified local technician. Calls to Dell encountered the usual offshore polite mayhem, with subsequent failure to return a promised call in a timely fashion to resolve the problem after several polite powwows among the personnel on the other side of the world. Accordingly, the computer was returned to Amazon, which, as always, made an immediate refund when requested. My advice: Avoid Dell. If there's a problem, my experience suggests it will remain your problem.
