This computer is very quiet, starts up fast and is great for doing several things at once. Another bonus is that isn't doesn't come with as many trial programs and corporate fluff as other computers I've bought in the past. It has a big Amazon button, Adobe Revel, McAffee and the mandatory Microsoft Office buttons on the start screen that not everyone is going to want on there but they're fairly easy to ditch. Set up was very easy and Windows 8 is quite good - provided you can be bothered to use the help button every once in a while. The audio sounds great without the Beats Audio b.s. that just costs you an extra 100 bucks. I bought this because it has a nice combination of disc space, RAM and price that makes it a great buy. Very pleased with this baby.

Great PC...I would have liked more memory slots available for future upgrades, but by the time I'll want to upgrade, the memory should be cheap enough to just replace the installed 8GB. I immediately added a 2nd hard drive, but found that I'm not fond of Dell's case. You first have to attach some "rails" to the hard drive, then it slides in and needs to be secured by 2 additional screws. When fully seated, you must have a right angle SATA cable or the case won't close...fortunately I had one from the old Dell I was replacing.
I'm still getting used to Windows 8.1, and I have to admit that my first impression was, "What did they do?!?" with some other choice words for effect, but I've been slowly getting used to it. I still want a Windows 7 style Start button (I know, I can get a third party app for this), but I decided that I might as well try to get used to the new interface instead of clinging to the old.
In summary, this is a fast PC (relatively speaking of course), and if you're new to Windows 8.1 - it's really not as bad as I thought it would be...it just takes some getting used to.

After several days comparing prices and system specs on the Dell website I eventually bought the Dell through Amazon. It is a powerful computer with room for upgrade. My computer at work (a Dell Optiplex) has similar specs and the performance is comparable. Fast, stable and works well with Windows 8.1. -- It is NOT a "super computer," I wouldn't want to play games on it and I think the graphics card wouldn't support it, but it is a perfect system to perform advanced office tasks, small graphics editing, and programming.

I understand the frustration of other customers when they complain about Win 8.1, but the OS has nothing to do with the hardware itself. I was skeptical of the new OS and planned to downgrade to Win 7 (beware if you want to do that, the computer comes with Win 8.1 "Basic" / "Personal" edition, if i understand it correctly you need Win 8.1 Professional if you want to do a downgrade -- i don't know why, but it was mentioned in some forums), I gave Win 8.1 a try and after tweaking the system (e.g. installing a start button app and starting into desktop) I must say that I am very happy with it. It is fast, stable and so far reliable.
If you want to use a dual monitor setup, be sure that you either have a monitor that supports HDMI or DVI (with the appropriate cable, which I bought cheap at amazon as well).
If you have some older peripheral hardware (I have an older webcam) the computer will not automatically detect it, so you will have to install the drivers manually, but it seems that if you hardware was still supported under Win 7 it will be supported in Win 8.1.

I've been very satisfied with this computer. The price was reasonable, and I am satisfied with the performance. BTW I downloaded a "start menu" from CNET, and this worked very well to give me a traditional interface on Windows 8.

Excellent machine. OS conversion from Win 7 to Win 8.1 has been a little frustrating. Even after watching and reading the reviews & informational tips on Win 8.1 the learning curve is tedious. Data transfer between the operating systems is not as straight forward as Microsoft presents it as some programs are not fully transferred.

USB 3.0 slots are at the back of the machine and that makes them a little inconvenient.

I've had a PC of one make or another in my home since 1985. This is a really nice machine with a lot going for it. Definitely a Bang-for-Dollar machine.

The processor core is almost as good as the AMD 8-core, at a better price. If you are a power-user and not an obnoxious gamer, then this machine is best balance of price/performance. It will easily handle all of my CAD/CAM programs, Video Editing, Music Production, as well as office programs.

Three stars? The hard drive crashed within 24 hours of delivery. I called Dell support and after determining it was a software issue they said it would be a $129.00 one time fix or I could purchase one year service contract for $239.00. Basically, Dell said it was not a hardware failure.I could not convince Dell the hard drive was kaput. Oh well....

EZ returns with Amazon. F.Y.I. I really liked the computer while it lasted and I would have thought the Seagate drive would last many years. Always had good luck with Dell products going back to Windows 98. Amazon will be shipping my replacement (same computer) and arrive within 48 hours.

If you get this computer you should consider buying a good quality keyboard and mouse. The provided mouse and keyboard are really cheap and lack luster. ALSO, the computer does not come with back-up Windows or driver disks. I will update once the new computer arrives and hopefully had some quality time using it.

Purchased with Windows 8-which would not work with some of my other devices and programs. Had to delete W-8 and install W-7. Very fast, I like . Have always had good luck with Dell

So far no problems. I've installed 16gig RAM, an SSD, and a video card already so I really don't know what it was like with the original parts. It's very speedy now. Love the 8-10 sec boot time.

I purchased a new desktop but after having numerous crashes and contacting dell they told me it was refurbished item.I was getting blue screen with apc_index_mismatch error code and the system would crash.I could not do anything in the computer. If i tried to do anything it would give that error code and crash. I talked to several dell rep and one did a system restore and another tech came and replaced the hard drive. Still the same problem. Then the last rep told me I have a refurbished computer. I was shocked at the news. When i purchased the computer it was not mentioned it was a refurbished product. I am tired of being with the reps.I am sending it back.
