5.0 out of 5 stars One of The Most Underrated Pop/Jazz Vocalists At Her Best
Della Reese shows she's a better singer than most critics give her credit fot!!! She knows what to sing and what not to sing! The best examples on this disc are "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" and "Always True To You In My Fashion". Other cuts worth checking out include "It's So Nice To Have A Man Around The House","Whatever...

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheesy as can be...
This is one of Della's worst recordings, just plain cheesy and unimaginitive arrangements. Look hard in record shops and junk shops for her two albums on RCA her first titled "Della" with jazzy swing arrangements by Neal Hefti, and "Special Delivery" with an orchestra under the direction of Mercer Ellington, both are excellent, but only available on...

4.0 out of 5 stars Exotic! Fun! Crazy!, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Della Della Cha Cha Cha (Audio CD)
When Della moved from Jubilee Records in 1959, she got signed to RCA Victor, and scored two million-sellers with "Don't You Know" and "Not One Minute More". Her first album was under the control of the late great Neal Hefti, and "Della" recieved a Grammy nomination the following year. Her second album "Della by Starlight" was a lush affair arranged by Glenn Osser, and this, her third album, was a collection of old standards done in a way you have never heard before. In 1960/61, Cha Cha Cha was the new dance craze, and everybody tried their hand at it, with mixed results. No matter how blue or sad a song was, Della always injected a sense of joy into the songs, so her animated nature fit perfectly with the new craze. From "Diamond's Are a Girl's Best Friend", to "Whatever Lola Wants", Della works her magic like only she can. She was having a lot more fun than she had ever had, and it shows in her singing. She's loose, carefee and delighted. If you compare her singing to the album "Special Delivery", released the same year, you can hear a clear difference in her approach to singing. My personal favorites are "Always True to You in My Fashion" and "Love for Sale".

5.0 out of 5 stars A Piece of History -- and it's Danceable!, September 17, 2006
This review is from: Della Della Cha Cha Cha (Audio CD)
You have to understand the context of this album. It came out in 1960, when cha cha was the hot new dance. The album contains standards set to cha cha rhythms. It may not be the ideal versions for listening, but it's great dance music!

5.0 out of 5 stars Challenge-Charm-Charism, October 9, 1999
This review is from: Della Della Cha Cha Cha (Audio CD)
Della Reese is the ultimate performer. Her voice is beyond description:amazingly powerful, expressive with flawless elocution and most original articulation, that requires much taste to be appreciated by real connoissers! Each song is a unique composition and none is like the other. After you listened to Della, the other blues or jazz stars seem colourless, despite their own qualities, they all are outcasted by Della's incredible temperament and talent. She is the alpha and the omega of song:she can sing everything, from gospel, blues to jazz and even classical music!!Della reese is without contest the BEST singer in the world! She has the trumpets of Jericho in her voice, and sings like an angel! She makes songs alive, she is not only an entertainer (actually the best) but she delivers a message in singing,of life, passion and joy.She is true and authentic and once you heard her,she put a spell on you forever! Moreover, she is gorgeous, and charismatic!Della Reese is the ultimate diva!

But stay away from this awful and dated cha-cha CD, this is truly trash.
