4.0 out of 5 stars Della has a unique way with a song..., February 25, 2000
This review is from: A Date with Della Reese at Mr Kelly's in Chicago / Story of the Blues (Audio CD)
The other reviewer of this CD sounds a little over obsessed with Della Reese and should get out more. However I think her best lp's are SPECIAL DELIVERY and DELLA. Both swing and are jazzy. This twofer is not bad but I'd hunt junk shops for the two titles just mantioned. Also Della Reese is not comparable to jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald or Anita O'Day but more along the lines of Dinah Washington, and she can sing wondefully, with the right arrangements and songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Della Reese Can Really Sing the Blues, August 27, 2007

Virginia music lover "cossack" (northern Virginia United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Date with Della Reese at Mr Kelly's in Chicago / Story of the Blues (Audio CD)
She recorded the Story of the Blues when she was very young. Her voice is powerful -- almost gospel like. I had this album in vinyl, and it became so worn as to be almost unplayable. I'm so glad they released it. There are intros to each song that are a bit corny, but the recording is clear and the band behind her really swings.
