This review is from: Delmar's Standard Textbook of Electricity (Hardcover)
Excellent textbook. Presented in a textbook format with plenty of pictures, easy to read and understand. Linear learning curve. Explains ins and outs of electronics and electricity basics, easy math (no two-page formula derivations!). I found it a great resource for brushing up for my electronics tech certification. Recomend to anyone who wants to know how electricity operates, with references to real life. Straight to the point (thorough basics, and minimum fuss).

This review is from: Delmar's Standard Textbook of Electricity (Hardcover)
I have been using Demar's Standard Textbook of Electricity for the past five years. This book is our primary text for the first three months of a 10 month, 5 days per week, 7 hours per day Industrial Electricity Course. Student feedback is uniformly positive.

I am an electrical engineer with 20 years of experience. This book is a GREAT review of all electrical theories and practices. This book will give you confidence and remind you of many lessons that you forgot from college. Written in nice sized chapters with pictures and examples. I recommend to non-engineers and all engineers.

This book was puchased for a class. It was a good selection for a textbook. It is written clearly and has many pictures and examples to further explain the theory. There are helpful summaries and review questions at the end of each unit. A great overall textbook.

This review is from: Delmar's Standard Textbook of Electricity (Hardcover)
I've used different revisions of this book for years as I've progressed through my schooling in the electrical trade. This book is easy to read with many helpful illustrations. (yes I like books with pictures) This is the best textbook on electricity I've seen.

THE Maintenance Electrician's Bible,
By
This review is from: Delmar's Standard Textbook of Electricity, 3E (Hardcover)
Extremely important to have this book for the Electrical Maintenance student, Apprentise, or Journeyman. This book is truely the "backbone" of critical information used by all electricians! When you know your "Delmar", you will have gained an invaluable amount of knowledge and confidence in your work.

TONS of mistakes, typos, incorrect formulas in EVERY chapter!,
By
This review is from: Delmar's Standard Textbook of Electricity, 3E (Hardcover)
This is an AWFUL textbook. One person in our class has the 2nd edition, and it doesn't have any of these mistakes! The THIRD edition is a piece of GARBAGE! It was so difficult trying to comprehend complex formulas when the examples given arent even correct! Wrong values, wrong, math, wrong symbols, mislabeling...and we're only to chapter 30 so far.
Simple things are OVER covered to the point of exhaustion, but when the chapter on filters came up, there was nothing to give examples of how to figure out how to do the problems at the end of the chapter. Power factor correction is barely glanced upon, and the author gives complex formulas when basic Ohms law could be used instead. If you use the 3rd edition in your classroom, PLEASE verify with your instructor so you dont struggle with the homework for no reason

Needs better identifying of formulas and more practice problems,
This review is from: Delmar's Standard Textbook of Electricity (Hardcover)
This is a very poor book and an even poorer textbook. Formulas are not identified well enough. There are very few problems to practice on and the 10 or so Review Questions at the end of each Unit are of little assistance. If there were more practice problems with each formula, then the text would be infinitely better. Electronics & electricity both require a lot of math. The author should consider that there are numerous formulas to be memorized in a short period of time. In our case, we have 5 weeks to cover the AC section. To make things worse it is difficult to locate formulas when looking back through the text. The Appendix that has the formulas should not assume that everyone can remember all of the formulas or when to use every formula.
We used the 4th edition and the section on Basics of Alternating Current required trig tables to do some problems. In the 4th edition the trig table in "Appendix A or B" was absent even though on page 450 it was referenced. Furthermore, in some 4th editions the Solution box for this problem on page 450 had two sentences and some other 4th edition texts did not have this wording. (The sentences said: "Note: 0.151 is the sine of the angle, not the angle. To find the angle that corresponds to a sine of 0.151, use the trigonometric tables located in Appendices A and B or a scientific calculator.) Perhaps a better text for AC basic classes would be Herman's other text titled Alternating Current Fundamentals. It requires more advanced math, but is better written and the formulas are better presented. In our class we have a software program that has many of the math problems. At least they can be "played with" like one does with in advanced math classes to understand the formulas and to check your answers. Again, identifying how to use each formula and adding practice problems for each formula would greatly improve this text.
