It’s easy to offer guests or family members a choice of drip coffee or an espresso drink with this combination coffee/espresso maker. The Caffé Nero has separate controls and water tanks for each function, so you can brew drip coffee and espresso simultaneously. The coffee side has a patented Flavor Savor brewing system that fully saturates grounds and lets them steep for a while to draw out rich coffee flavors. A permanent gold-tone filter keeps even the finest grounds from sneaking through to a coffee cup and eliminates the need for buying paper filters. Using the dial on the top of the coffeemaker, you can adjust the coffee’s strength to personal preference. A separate button lets you choose between brewing 5 cups or less or from 6 to 10 cups and alters the heating element accordingly so smaller pots never taste burnt or overheated. The drip coffee side also has a 24-hour programmable timer that can be set each night to brew first thing in the morning and a "drip interrupt" feature, so you can pour a cup before the full pot is brewed. Coffee remains hot in the 10-cup glass carafe due to the Caffé Nero’s nonstick warming plate.

The espresso function starts up quickly without much advanced preparation and has two filter holders--one that uses ground espresso and another that uses coffee pods. The pod filter holder has a unique design that securely holds pods in place and makes disposal easy with a single touch of a button. The patented ground espresso filter improves upon the brewing process, which means espresso drinks always have a perfect crema. Cappuccino and latté lovers will be pleased with the exclusive chamber that mixes steam and milk into a delicious, creamy froth. The espresso maker has a stainless-steel boiler for durability and a removable spill tray for easy cleaning. DeLonghi offers a one-year limited warranty on defects in materials and workmanship for this two-in-one espresso/coffee machine. --Cristina Vaamonde

Within three months of one another (and just over the one year warranty) they both stopped working.

Contacted their customer service and after asking me all my details in several emails they told me it was out of warranty!

I definitely don't recommend this product to anybody as it is very unreliable and it's difficult to deal with Delonghi.

I am an avid coffee drinker, somewhere between 2-4 pots a day. My husband bought this 3-in-1 coffee maker for me for the Christmas of 2004. It has a digital clock/timer, flavor strength switch and makes pretty good coffee. It worked great for a while.

However, after about a year and a half the coffee maker side stopped working, without any warning. I went to get a cup of coffee and the hotplate was cold. After emptying it, cleaning it out and setting it up again, I turned it back on to make another pot.

The hotplate didn't even get warm, and the brewer didn't even make a noise or pull a single drop into the carafe. Even though the espresso and steamer side still works wonders, for the price of this 3-in-1, you would think it would work a bit longer than it has.

I had originally purchased the Krups version of their fanciest dual machine and it arrived non-functional with a display and buttons that were a little too "Star Trek" for me anyway...in fact, they didn't function at all. The Delonghi Caffe Nero (so far) has been very straighforward, easy to use, and produces good coffee and espresso. The quality of the coffee is moderate-high and I'm impressed with its strength selection system (a simple knob) and the mechanism by which it brews. No bells or whistles to confuse me. I did think initially that the permanent filter might be difficult to clean but not so far. However, the heat resistant coffee pot has an interesting design and a strange top which snaps on somewhat awkwardly and appears vulnerable to breaking but otherwise I have not found any major flaws with this machine as of yet.

Good coffee, good espresso, easy to use, easy to program for the next day. We'll see...

I thought I did enough research before buying this machine but apparently not enough. I was disappointed in 1. the design ( looks rather cheap) and 2. the performance. The coffee maker didn't stop dripping either water or coffee when you pulled out the pot and for the espresso part you need to REHEAT the unit 30 MINUTES prior to use!!! So much about being flexible about having an espresso! If you really enjoy good coffee you need to invest more, unfortunately.

Although their coffeemakers do an excellent job of making coffee, DeLonghi WILL USE ANY EXCUSE NOT TO HONOR THE WARRANTY IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG! Here's my experience: When I ordered my coffeemaker from DeLonghi, it was "backordered" and took over a month to ship. A little over 10 months after I received it, the coffeemaker broke! (The heater coil went out and

it would no longer make coffee.) Since it had been over a year since I ORDERED it, they said the one-year warranty was expired, despite the fact I had proof I had received it less than a year before (I still had the shipping confirmation). I explained this numerous times. For a couple of months, the various people I talked to kept telling me they would "look into it", but they never called back. Finally, when it actually WAS over a year since I had received the coffeemaker, when I called to check on the status of my warranty claim, they said, "Your warranty has expired. You've had this coffeemaker over one year. There is nothing we can do." I highly recommend you find a coffeemaker from a manufacturer that stands behind their product! I have a Cuisinart now, and it is WONDERFUL!

I went through a few of these within a month of owning it. I received it damaged got a replacement and that one lasted less than a month then another and another and finally one worked for almost a year and that one broke too. You have to ship the unit at your expense every time as well and at 20+ pounds its expensive to ship and my closest place was a 2 hour drive.

it doesnt make quality espresso at all its more like coffee even with premium beans that are ground just before brewing.

Their customer service is useless as well they dont know anything about their units or making espresso.

spend a couple hundred more and purchase a higher quality one that will last.

Bought as a Christmas gift for my wife. It was very easy to set up and use, although we're still playing with the settings. I particularly like the ability to set the time that the pot stays hot -- it's preset at 2 hours, but can be easily changed to any length, including always on. The titanium filter is a nice idea -- does away with paper filters, and it cleans easily.

After reading some of the negative reviews, I almost didn't buy this machine. However, I liked the looks, size and price and bought it anyway since the store I purchased it from had a return policy. I've owned the machine for over 6 months now and used it daily for both coffee and expresso/lattes and absolutely love the coffee this thing makes. I have had no issues or problems whatsoever with this machine. Honestly, I think this is the nicest coffee/expresso maker out there (for the money).

After owning this coffeemaker for three months, I feel compelled to give a review in light of all the negative ones. I've had no problems with this machine. It makes excellent espresso, coffee, and cappuccino. I chose this model because I like an espresso in the morning, an occasional cappuccino, and I wanted a machine that served both my daily needs as a single person and one that would work when I had company. I did not want two separate machines cluttering my counter. I have an espresso every morning and I make a pot of coffee at least once a week. I do recommend that you purchase the correct grind of coffee to get the crema you desire for espresso--I use Illy ground espresso coffee or the Illy moka coffee and various drip grinds for regular coffee. The grind is important. I love not having to worry with paper filters and the gold filter is so easy to clean. I find the espresso filter easy to put in place contrary to another review. I certainly never wait 30 minutes for my morning coffee--5 minutes tops. Lastly, when it comes to coffee, I would prefer to pay for good coffee (function) over looks (form)--although I certainly do not consider this an unattractive unit. It is not stainless steel; it is an everyday coffeemaker and much more attractive than the standard white plastic models that are so prolific at that. If you want stainless steel, go for it and pay more. If your priority is great coffee, espresso, and cappuccino, go for Cafe Nero Combo.

After a year and a half the regular coffee maker died which has been a great disappointment, so I amend my original review and recommend that you consider that this machine will not last. Although the espresso maker still works beautifully, the reason I selected the combo was to have both options. It takes up too much space to perform only one of those.
