5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant, fast and simple to use....
It takes about 4 minutes to boil a 48-ounce carafe of water. The carafe is large enough to boil water prior to filling my 12-cup drip coffee maker (to get rid of the chlorine taste and etc.) and is easy to fill. I would call it almost fool-proof. The design of the lid (spring-loaded), while elegantly efficient, makes cleanup (every-so-often) a bit problematical since I...

1.0 out of 5 stars not that great
I'm an old hand with kettles, I thought I'd give this one to my spouse for our anniversary, but it was a bit of a dud. When the kettle was ready to boil the lid would fall down, steam would go everywhere. And it would often take ages to turn itself off. Looked great but...Think I'm going to get the braun instead.

The design of the lid (spring-loaded), while elegantly efficient, makes cleanup (every-so-often) a bit problematical since I have not figured out how to remove the lid prior to washing.

This is also the perfect accompanyment to the 'French press' coffee maker.

Note: Only water should be boiled in this carafe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super-fast, nice features, but change the top, January 9, 2006
This review is from: Delonghi KBX1510 Cool Touch Electric Kettle (Kitchen)
This is a very nice product (super-fast heating, nice little filter, cool touch, high quality parts, etc.), except that, as the other review noted, the top doesn't detach to ease cleaning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Our Favorite (Kitchen) Gadget...., February 8, 2006

Let me start by stating that both my husband and I are gadget-freaks! We spend thousands of dollars every year on cool gadgets, digital cameras, XBOX games, stereo equipment etc. But this is one of our favorite "gadgets" and it only cost us $29.99 on Amazon ! We also live in the Windy City so we go through gallons of hot tea every winter. Like other people already stated, it boils the water really quickly (and quietly). Plus, it has an automatic turn-off without any annoying whistling sound, is cool to the touch, and yes, very sleek-looking. As for the top not detaching, we don't mind since all we do is boil water in it. Just make sure you pour out any excess water when you're done. Btw, it does a great job of keeping the water hot as well!

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely terrible quality, March 15, 2006

This is a bad product. It was shocking to see that after 2 weeks of regular use, the on-off switch simply broke and fell inside. It is hard to imagine how can anyone design such poor quality - I mean, really, it truly requires a major effort to design something that will break after 2 weeks. Also, it raises questions about quality control process of the company. Too bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good buy, January 11, 2007

Like the safety features like outside cool (outside does get hot when the kettle is full), auto shutoff...etc. Also, since it has a filter at the spout, thus, steam is muffed coming out of the spot when boiling. I would still not put my hand out there thou.

One thing they definitely missed is the fact that it does not have cup measure. Measuregment in OZ is not very helpful when all you want to do is make couple of cups of tea.

Functionally it is workin great thus far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great, but tough to clean the inside., March 24, 2006

It heats water very fast. It is cool to the touch on the outside. It has a separate base that it sits on while heating the water. The base is what plugs into the wall. It needs a 3-prong outlet. My only complaint is that the top opening is too small to easily clean the inside.

1.0 out of 5 stars Design flaws hold this kettle back, December 9, 2007

Although I have enjoyed other Delonghi products this one is not a winner for me.

The issue is that the lid release button is not so intuitive. The lid is designed to be released by a button in the handle. The button is integrated to make the product look clean but it's function isn't obvious nor intuitive. Many people have used this kettle at my house and they all push down on the lid to open it for filling. The lid is large and presents itself with a broad surface area and so this seems intuitive for the user. Unfortunately the little plastic latch inside can't handle the repeated stress of opening the lid by pushing on it and eventually fails. This results in the lid staying open and because of this, the temperature inside the kettle during boiling never reaches the point where the sensor triggers the kettle to switch off. I could see this as a product liability should the kettle run dry and cause a fire.

1.0 out of 5 stars Company won't honor warranty--stay away from DeLonghi, April 23, 2007

When the kettle broke (in the exact same way that was described by others), I called DeLonghi and was given the runaround. They were unwilling to repair or replace the kettle, saying they no longer make it. In order to get a refund, they made me send faxes of receipts which they first couldn't find and then found not to their liking. I suggest to stay away from DeLonghi.
