decent portable AC unit,
By
This review is from: Delonghi PAC C100 Portable Air Conditioner 10,000 BTU (Kitchen)
I would only buy this over a window AC unit if you value the portability. It is quite heavy, but is on wheels so it is portable. AC unit cools well. Window insert is poorly designed, so you need to use putty or something else to modify the fit in the window sill to prevent the flow of warm outdoor air into the room.

Nice Unit,

I've had the C100 for about a week now and am very happy with the way it cools and dehumidifies. Even the "low" setting is quite powerful and blasts cold air. The controls are easy to use.
The rotary compressor did make a "clicking" sound when I first used it, but this disappeared after several hours of use and now works fine. I highly recommend it as a portable -

Not so good,

There were two things wrong with the Delonghi Portable AC that I recently bought and then returned: 1) A minor flaw with the right side exterior plastic panel that kept snapping out of place; 2) A major problem with the circulating fan that started making a loud noise after about 12 hours of operation. The two problems were unrelated.

Some warnings to keep in mind.,
This review is from: Delonghi PAC C100 Portable Air Conditioner 10,000 BTU (Kitchen)
I purchased this unit at Lowes for three hundred. Not the three eighty nine asked for here even though I am a Prime member. It's as if on occassion an item's price already includes the shipping charge, Prime member or not. Anyway the unit is kind of big and heavy so we had to lay the box down on its back for transport. Once you open it, you will find a warning or two that the unit must always remain upright otherwise the oil for the compressor will not be fully available and if you turn it on right away it will damage it. It also states that if it was not transported in an upright position, then you must wait 6 to 24 hours before using it. I waited 24.
I set the temperature for 69 degrees and the unit kept cycling on and off every 3 minutes even though the room temperature was 74. This situation I discovered was being caused not by the list of causes under 'trouble ' listed in the book but due to the fact that the units temperature gauge must be reading about 5 degrees off what the actual room temperature was. This is not unusual for portable units since the temperature sensor is right near the cool air comming out of the unit. I also noticed that once the room temperature drops the sensor becomes much more accurate, say 1-3 degrees of the actual room temperature. When I lowered the unit's temperature to 65, it kept running long past 3 minutes until the room temperature was 70. For about a 166 sq ft room it took less than a half hour to lower the temperature from an artificial 80 (I used a portable heater as it's only March) to 70 as the temperature of the air comming out of the unit was in the mid 50's. I personaly consider this unit very quiet compared to others I either have or have had including window units with less BTUs. Another warning is that the levers that direct the air output can not be adjusted. They are in a fixed position. One final warning, it states it can also be used for sliding glass windows, which it can, but only if the window is a max of 38" high, as that is the maximum height the window adapter extends to. Otherwise you will need to cut your own from a piece of wood, including the hole for the exhaust. I only gave it 3 stars because of the price and the short window extension. Otherwise I like it. 6/22/11 From 10' away, this unit with the compressor running and the fan set at low speed has a decibel volumn of 55.4. For comparison a private office = 50, Normal speach = 60, Vacume cleaner = 70, etc. When the compresor shuts off (no cool air being generated) and just the fan is running at low the reading is 49.5 according to my extech sound meter, which I just got. Even at Medium fan speed the difference in sound volume was insignificant from 10' away.

Great alternative to a window air conditioner,

This was a terrific alternative for an older home with electric heat and no venting. It seems to work nicely with older style windows. I would recommend it.

Prior to purchasing this unit we bought another brand portable A/C unit at Home Depot. It gave us nothing but problems. It leaked and ruined the rug in the bedroom. It would shut off when the cup for the water was full, which happened about once an hour in the Dehumidify mode. We returned it and purchased the Penguino 10,000 BTU. It works great in all modes. We use the dehumidify mode most often and it does its job. The air blows cold and keeps us comfortable. My only gripe is that, as mentioned elsewhere, you do have to find some way to stabilize the window set-up. I have mine duct taped in the window. The hose is plastic but not very pliable. I could not get the end to screw into the unit or the hose. Same with the window end so, that too, also has a large amount of duct tape around it. I will say that if I was in the market for another portable A/C unit, I would purchase again. I have had it for a year and have had it running every day,and it is still working fine. I did purchase the extended warranty as a precaution and 3 years for $30 seems worth it to me. Oh, and I LOVE not having to empty the water out of the unit :)

defective product,

Unit operated for a day and a half. Even during this short time period the compressor was very noisy at startup and the fan sounded as if it was hitting something as it was speeding up. After this 36 hour period the unit would run for about 5 minutes and then just blow hot air. With so many other portable products available I would caution anyone thinking of buying this unit.

This AC unit cools our server room nicely. The best part is - no tank to empty or drain line to run. Works great for the need.

Totally worth the money!,
This review is from: Delonghi PAC C100 Portable Air Conditioner 10,000 BTU (Kitchen)
This air conditioner definitely does what it says it does. It cools very quickly and is fairly compact. Pretty powerful for the size. Simple and easy to set up.
The first unit that arrived was damaged during transit. This is the only real downfall in ordering this machine from Amazon. The air conditioner is shipped in the same box that you would get it in if you purchased this from a brick and mortar store. So, if the shipping people decide to drop it, the unit stands a very good chance of being damaged. I did have to return the first air conditioner. Amazon was very quick to replace it. The second one arrived without any damage whatsoever. Both units were brand new. They weren't refurbs nor were they returns. The only reason that I didn't give this 5 stars is the shipping damage issue though that has nothing to do with this product's performance. But we were in the middle of a massive heat wave, my house air conditioner broke (!) over Labor Day weekend and waiting a couple more days for a working unit was agonizing. (yes, we are still waiting for the repairperson to fix our home ac.) All in all, I'm quite pleased with my purchase and yes, I would recommend this product!

My husband likes the way it cooled the bedroom, but the sound is too loud and I could not sleep with it on. Noisier than hotel window units. We returned the product after three weeks and hope to find a quieter unit.
