Good looks except for those cheap handles,
By
This review is from: Delonghi RT200 2-Slice Retro Toaster (Kitchen)
This toaster looks great. The matt finish won't show finger prints, wipes clean easily. The old fashioned heat settings are like radio tuner knobs. Nicely made. The settings include "bagel" which means in only heats one side the same as if you broiled a bagel.Except for one small detail which would drive me nuts. The handles for lowering the toast are the cheapest plastic. They wiggle like they are ready to fall off. It's like they spent all their manufacturing money on the case, the heat knobs, the controls and then said "Whoops! We can't make any money on this, cut the cost somewhere." So the nice handles went and these were slapped on. What were these guys thinking? The part you use the most has the cheapest feel! If I'm buying a top of the line toaster, I'll pay to have it ALL perfect.

But once you actually get this toy plastic model of a toasterin your hands you will be very disappointed. From the photos, and theprice tag, I had reasonable expectations for a retro-industrial heavy-duty piece of machinery, expectations that were dashed as soon as the postman handed me the box - the thing only weighs a few ounces. The lift lever and control dials that look like cast aluminum in the photos are plastic. Even the "Brushed Metallic Finish" housing is so lightweight that it feels like molded plastic sprayed with "metallic" paint. What a rip-off. This item is so chintzy that I'm not even going to plug it in - it's going straight back into the box and shipped back.Disclaimer: the star rating above is misleading. I didn't want to award this item any stars at all.

Just another pretty face,

This toaster is really good looking. In fact, it is so good looking that we have tried to overlook its shortcomings:Heats so slowly that the bread dries out. Pop-up doesn't really pop high enough to easily grab the toast. Toasts unevenly. The toaster does have a bagel setting, and that works better than the bread setting. Still, the results are uneven. We really like toast and bagels in our family, so we're replacing this one.

Not your average toaster,

ok... so you're lookin at the other reviews and you're thinkin... why should i buy this thing?first of all, it does a good job with toast, but don't compare this thing with other toasters... I was used to toast with a wicked dried out flavor. But, if you like toast that's krispy on the outside and soft in the middle than this thing is perfect! It doesn't dry out your toast! second of all, aesthetics. btw: the slots are sufficiently large for bagels and the control knob is accurate. Overall for the cost and appearence this toaster is a good deal, but combine that with hot and still moist toast and you have a great deal. Don't overlook this lil guy!

Pitiful,

This is a pitiful excuse for a toaster. As one of the other reviewers said, I could never get it to toast evenly or enough no matter which setting it was on. Also echoing another reviewer, the toast did not pop up far enough to just pluck out but had to be pryed out. I also agree that it looks cheap. If you buy it, don't say you haven't been warned.

My roommate and I use this toaster daily and I've never had problems with it. The material is light but very sturdy. I actually dropped it down my stairs when I moved and it still looks and works great. I love all the features which are easy to use if you take about 30 seconds to read the instructions. Delonghi must have replaced the handles because the one on mine is metal. I plan on buying another just like this after mine dies but I suspect that won't happen for quite a while.

I gave this toaster a 2 star rating because it does look great, which bumped it from one star. However, from day one all it does is burn anything that goes into it, even at it's lowest setting. Nice bagel setting but it too burns the one side to a crisp. Not worth the money and I'm embarrassed I spent so much on a toaster thinking the DeLonghi name was worth it. It wasn't. Going back to a $20 toaster.....

This toaster is a great product and I especially love how the bagel feature allows you to toast only 1 side of the bagel. Also love the retro modern style.

I got this toaster cause it was a good brand and on sale. I thought it looked really nice and it does go well with the other appliances in my kitchen, but it doesn't work worth a damn. SInce day one my toast has been unevenly toasted. And even at the highest setting, my bread is more slightly warm and over-dry than actually toasted. I like the bagel setting, but don't use it because I always forget which direction to put the bagel in... Pretty much, I really wish I had not bought this toaster. I am amazed that the company still sells it actually.

Experience With DeLonghi RT200 Taster,
By A Customer
This review is from: Delonghi RT200 2-Slice Retro Toaster (Kitchen)
This is one of the nicest looking toasters that I have ever seen. It's presentation is excellent. The controls are well laid out, and convenient. We bought this toaster based on buying several DeLonghi convection ovens. These were all excellent, and gave many years of good service. As for the performance of this toaster, I think it is the most pathetic toaster ever devised in the appliance industry. We have had nothing but problems with it. The first one that we had, would not evenly toast the bread, and would not toast enough even at the maximum settings. The second unit did the same, and on top of this, the mechanics of it are now jammed. We have a hard time to push the lever down. The push-up feature to lift the toast higher, no longer works. The support grill for the toast is now starting to get flimsy and jams. Also, when pressing down, it is difficult to engage it to get it to start. Instead of trying a third one, we are chucking this out in to the waste bin, and getting a completely other make. But, I must say that DeLonghi does make some very nice Toaster-Ovens. In speaking to an appliance service center, the tech told me that DeLonghi toasters give them the worse problems they ever had, but their other appliances seem to be okay.
