5.0 out of 5 stars I knew it., September 16, 2004
By
This review is from: Delores Lesion (Audio CD)
I discovered this very obscure, unsigned band a couple years ago with the help of their promotion on certain metal forums. Their first two albums were self-released: "The Earth Gods" which was alright but the production was atrocious, and "Memorial" which is an amazing metal album, the production was better but still not polished. I knew this band had lots of potential, and someday they would get signed to a great company and get the attention they deserved. Soon enough, they landed a deal with pretty much my favorite record company and place to order CDs- The End Records! It made perfect sense, there were plenty of similar bands there, and I knew all along The End was the perfect label for them. Anyways, on to the music.

This album's production is finally top-notch. Pummeling drums, heavy guitars, switching from growling and a unique clean singing voice, keyboards in the background, all make for some quality metal.

The first song starts off with a kick in the face with sudden really intense growling vocals. Couldn't be better. :) "Even the Vultures Have Moved On" adds some clean singing, and is a very powerful and solid track. My favorite song is probably "Follow Through," it just really gets the adrenaline pumping every time; it's really fast paced, excellent riffs, excellent keyboard playing in the background, kind of atmospheric during the verses, it's just all the great elements of the band rolled into one song. "Ether" is a short, quiet, atmospheric instrumental, very nice to throw in between the heavy songs. "Dark Haired Girl" is a very soft balled/duet with female vocals and keyboard set to sound like violins, also a nice change. The last track is the longest and mostly heavy but then fades out with a nice piano outro.

I'm not sure if I like this better than Memorial yet, their previous effort. That album has longer, more progressive songs compared to this, and softer acoustic sections which I always like, and the album itself is longer. Even though this album is only 36 minutes long, it doesn't seem like it. Shorter time never means anything, some of my favorite CDs are a half hour or less. Just be sure to check out Memorial if you like this.

Fans of Dark Tranquillity and Soilwork will probably like this and most fans of Agalloch, although they aren't really all that similar to these bands. "Memorial" is slightly more similar to Opeth, with the longer, more progressive songs. All in all, this is seriously one of the best metal albums I've got this year. It is well worth anyone's time.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wrote my review; where's yours?, October 20, 2004

You may not know them now ... but you will. `The Delores Lesion' is but an introduction to the entity that is Lilitu. Compelled by melodic guitar work, intense drums, and vocals that fluctuate between frantic screaming and pure untainted singing, one would not expect to find this band hailing from the deep south of America. Many may find themselves comparing Lilitu to many European metal bands; to me there is no comparison. You can sense their European influences, yet they are an entity unto themselves. The album opens with a great force that later progresses to a more refined and melodious sound that, in the end, leaves you with a realization you have just listened to something exemplary. The music is layered, often adding an atmospheric hue with the addition of keyboards and additional vocals. Though short, `The Delores Lesion' is well worth your time.~HEIDIjake

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply A Masterpiece, December 31, 2005
This review is from: Delores Lesion (Audio CD)
Alright i held off for about a year to write this review, and within that time this cd has gone down into my fav. albums of my life, simply perfect!...

it goes from anywhere between Dark Tranquillity vibe, To a soft (YET!) metal feel (but i cant relate it to anyone).. as a matter of fact im listening to Lilitu writing this review "Follow Through" thats a soft song and very catchy

(*note* when i say soft i mean singing)

(since theres no samples ill try to break down the sounds)

Vocals- Are Raspy Mid-ranged screams- most compared to Demonoid's vocals (but lilitu's is more raspy screaming)

Guitars- (my fav. part of the album)The guitars go from Death metal riffing to Melodic touches of Dark Tranquillity then in some songs more of a Hard Rock sound mainly cause its open strumming... and as for there solos they have a heart felt classic rock feel mixed with some pretty fast shreds

Drums/bass- They really do some experimenting so to speak they go from blazing blast beats to jazz throughout the album (but depending on what genre u listen to the blast beats arnt as fast as say Behemoth or 1349)

Keyboards- very minimual use, and the songs arnt over drentched with the keyboards but just enough to create a great soundscape and trigger ur emotions to what they want u to feel..

now add all these together and you have yourself Lilitu

all in all I have nothing but praise for this band, this album is not like any other melodic death metal act simply because Lilitu used their own sound and crafted it to their likeing... do your self a favor buy this, and see for your self... Honestly my favorite album in a long time.. PERIOD!.

5.0 out of 5 stars All that needs to be said is,, January 25, 2005
This review is from: Delores Lesion (Audio CD)
I first heard of Lilitu from my friend on MySpace.com and this is when I first heard of them. Since then, this unknown band from Georgia has made it to my top 5 favorite bands. They have a style like most melodic metal bands but it's just perfected. They go from a soft piano rift to the lead singer (Derek Bonner) comes in with a pure great death metal scream in Desolation Breeds. The Delores Lesion has a guest female singer who has an amazing talent for Gothic singing. She sings in that song's chorus as a duet. Not only is this band soft but they have great death metal songs including Even The Vultures Have Moved On and Only The End Of The World Again. The only problem I had with this album was that fact that it's only 8 tracks (even tho a lot of songs are over 4:30 minutes) and Ether was (personally) a waste of space. In the song Dark Haired Girl, the lead singer sings the entire song and it sounds amazing! Follow Through and Fragments Of My Reflection are also good with him singing and yet again going all out in a death metal scream. Any fan of... I can't even relate them to any other band I've heard (besides the band I'm in). It's just an amazing album and if you, the reader, like any sort of melodic/death metal, you will want this album! A must for any collection!

PS: I've tried to order the Memories album from their website and yet to have a responce. It's a shame really. Unhallowed By Thy Shame their best song...

5.0 out of 5 stars Metal Forward, January 19, 2006
This review is from: Delores Lesion (Audio CD)
I randomly picked up this album a few months ago and immediately fell in love with it's "modern metal done right." Screw those crappy metalcore bands and pick this album up. It takes the extreme metal of today to a higher level of art and sophistication. With classy packaging and art by Travis Smith this album is a must have. From the grip of "Only the End of the World Again" this album will pull you on ward. "Only the End..." may be the perfect opening track and the album doesn't let up with the stirring and striking "Even the Vultures Have Moved On" pausing only briefly before launching into the next track after track of blazing guitar work and energetic melodies. However the real shine of this album occurs with "Dark Haired Gril" a mellow ballad of deepening sadness and loss. The emotional weight of Dark Haired Girl" anchors the next song (which I had hoped from the intro would be a solid techno dance track but luckily it isn't). "Fragments of my Reflection" is nothing short of amazing and is definitely a must hear for fans of the melodic death metal sound. A wee bit slower than the tradition Swedish sound but incorporating an almost hard core breakdown feel (yet it still retains listenablity and a separate identity from every other band who does that). It's truly an epic listen that should excite listeners of modern metal with a more adventurous ear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD out in stores, March 23, 2005
This review is from: Delores Lesion (Audio CD)
Lilitu, the metal band that is growing to be more popular by the minute, have outdone themselves once again. The latest album 'The Delores Lesion' may be short but is worth everyones time. The very melodic tracks with heartfelt vocals will suck anyone into their world and feel the pain of singer Derek Bonner. You will want to play it over and over again. Both, heavy and clean vocals, are outstanding and the best singing and screaming I have heard from a metal band yet. This album is the best album I have purchased in a long time. It will be interesting to hear what they have to offer with the next album, and if it will be even remotely as good as this one. SabrinaU

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't explain it..., June 20, 2005
This review is from: Delores Lesion (Audio CD)
I am a fan of really heavy, psychotic metal, predominantly death metal like Nile, Opeth, Behemoth, and Arch Enemy, and black metal like Dimmu Borgir, Limbonic Art, Hecate Enthroned, Mayhem, and Emperor. But then there's Lilitu. If you asked me I couldn't tell you what genre of metal they are. Not quite death metal, not quite screamo (a genre I detest with every fibre of my being, by the way) I have no idea. But I actually like it. They are one of the few bands that can successfully go from screaming to melodic clean-vocalled singing with almost as much finesse as (though I would never ever rank anything up as high as the incomparable) Opeth. And then there are the ambient keyboards. This cd is an entity unto itself. And if I liked it, then I guarantee you will! you might as well check them out, since they are one of the like five American metal bands that doesn't suck, and the album will only take 36 minutes out of your life... I'm rambling.
