I found the other reviews about this ebook very lacking in descriptions. I found them to be untrue as well. Perhaps they were writing about an earlier version of the ebook. There are actually no spelling errors at all, or not more than normally slip by in a printed book of high quality. Everything this item describes in the description is included. The complete stories are not complete but that is only because no one has bothered to translate all of Chekhov's stories into English. The complete collections of Chekhov's stories in English physical books contain just over 200 stories, when in reality there are more than 400. Still 200 stories is enough to comprise 13 volumes of stories. First you should read all of those 200 and then you can complain about the others. So far I have read 16% of this ebook, which amounts to a good majority of the stories. He is one of my top five favorite short story writers. There is such a range of life represented in his stories that anyone, with any belief system and of any age would greatly benefit from reading them. They are very easy to read as well and are never the same or boring. He often writes about things you think only you have thought about. In this way he is able to speak directly to you.

The exclusion of his nonfiction work, The Island of Sakhalin, seems like a deliberate oversight, and a gross one for those of us that enjoy Murakami's praise of it. It is a shame, but seeing as the book is so incredibly rare in English it is no wonder that it was left out. What they do provide in this ebook is the outstanding quality and the impeccable taste that I have come to expect from Delphi Classics. I have bought all of the Delphi Classics so far and have never once been disappointed. I actually bought this ebook when it cost $2.99.

I'm happy to report there is a new version of this Delphi collection. The Shooting Party was a terrible scan, and they fixed it. The anthology is a very good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource! September 7, 2012

As a writer of historical fiction and short stories, I have long respected the work of Anton Chekhov, although I must confess I'd read just a few of his stories. I decided to immerse myself in his work --- read everything he wrote. Imagine my delight when I found this collection available on Kindle and very reasonably priced. The translations are careful and smooth and the pictures are nicely detailed, even on the Kindle screen. I'm very pleased.

2.0 out of 5 stars Spelling errors! December 27, 2011

Had good experience with Delphi Classics collected stories of Anthony Trollope. So without hesitation bought this book. Started reading "The Shooting Party". In a short while found that the number of spelling errors made reading of the book painful. On a single page found these two words h<?ad & s*^ory. Removed the book from my Kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Many of Chekhov's finest short fiction achievements June 12, 2013

Even though this translation is far from the best of them, it was among the first, and Constance Garnet brought much Russian literature to English speakers that would not have been available for many years. And the stories themselves seem to conquer even a clumsy or literal attempt. While the reader does not get much sense of Chekhov's literary style nor his rhythms or word choices, the power of the stories themselves overcomes the paucity or the prose in English.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the whole work April 22, 2012
Some important texts are missing, most of all Sakhalin Island (Ostrov Sakhalin), and the spelling errors make for an unpleasant reading experience.

This collection is disappointing.
