I travel all the time, I need luggage I can count on. This suitcase cracked badly on the first flight. And the 25-inch had one corner completely smashed in. To get to my next stop, I had to wrap them in saran wrap [they had a machine at the airport for this purpose, people who check cardboard boxes are required to wrap them.] This was an international flight, so they do the x-ray as you enter the airport, and then you can lock your suitcase and wrap it up. On a domestic flight I would have been stranded with nowhere to go; I would have missed the flight looking for a new suitcase. Delsey says it's under warranty, but are they going to bring me a new suitcase before my next flight? The warranty does not cover damage done by the airline, so there really is no warranty. My Samsonite was warranted for life, they replaced the latches several times, no questions asked.
The Delsey looks nice, it's very light weight, and I liked the wheels. The three piece set [the carry-on, the 25-inch, and the 29-inch] all fit nicely one inside the next, this is very handy for cruise ships. The description says "Polycarbonate ABS Blend." I am sure there is very little polycarbonate in the blend. It contains no fiber reinforcement, like my old Samsonite had. Don't let that texture fool you, they mold the plastic to look like fiber reinforcement. It's just thin plastic that is very brittle. On an airplane, and on the tarmac, your luggage can get COLD. Maybe they never tested this stuff in COLD conditions. The worst part is I bought an entire set for myself, my wife, and our daughter. I own nine pieces of this junk. It was all massively on sale, and I can see now why. I am looking at Titan, it is 100% polycarbonate [GE Lexan], but it's expensive and no big wheels. The Titan has the 4 little "spinner" casters. I like big roller-blade wheels. In close quarters like airport check-in the four "spinner" style casters are good. But I often need to walk quite a long distance. I strap the 25-inch to the 29-inch and I strap my briefcase to the carry-on, and roll with it. At the airport, carts are always available so this may not be an issue for you. The big wheels are fitted up inside, so they are much less likely to get knocked off. I've never had a problem with big wheels; I've put MILES on them. If one of those little "spinner" casters breaks off you will be dragging the thing around. The Delsey is made of cheap plastic. You'd be better off with a cardboard box. March 15 Update: Luggage Online took back the one piece of this set that I bought from them. Luggage Online sent UPS to pick it up, and I appreciate that. When I find some really tough luggage, I will buy it from Luggage Online.

My husband and I had this exact bag, purchased at Macy's, and used it *very* roughly (airlines, cruise ships, car trips - international and domestic) and very often. We were attracted to it because it weighs very little, and you can pack a LOT into it. Basically, you can do a "his side, her side" for a week (it's that big). Sure it scuffs. It's luggage, though, and if you travel, your bag will get scuffed.
After our last trip, however, rough airport baggage handling put two major cracks in the upper left-hand corner. It's not fixable. Oh well. I'll buy another one if there isn't an even more lightweight model out now.

Very light indeed. The first impression was that was crushed, but when opening saw the material is flexible and returns to its original shape. Very good luggage!

We have about 10 pieces of this luggage and so far only one has cracked. However Delsey has a 10 year warranty so it will be repaired of replaced at no cost.
I travel lots and really like this luggage. It is very light, does not scratch like some have said and the best part is you can spot them in the airport carousel very quickly. Buy them - you will not be unhappy that you did. |
